    Jen
  • 60 minutes of exercise for me personally today so I am at 580

    Group Total is drumroll 11031
  • 20 Minutes bike 15-21 mph

    20+11031= 11051 Group total
  • Well today I tried every way in the world to try to talk myself out of doing water aerobics when I got home. But I reminded myself that I want to be skinny MORE than I don't want to do the aerobics... so I got 46 minutes of aerobic walking and 80 minutes water aerobics, for a total of 126 minutes today...wow I did great!!

    Total 952/1500
    Still to go 538

    Group total 11,051 + 126 = 11,177

Wow do you believe how much we have done and it is only 8/11? WOW

LOL TWO people posted while I was calculating so I had to do it over again!!!
  • Misti, how is your ankle? I feel so lame. Here you are injured and I couldn't muster the umph to get off my back side. I felt so tired all day but I didn't do a darn thing but a little laundry and babysit my grandkids. I wish I loved to exercise like all you super jocks but this exercise thing is a struggle for me. Any input on how to get moving? I must say controlling my eating has been a breeze so I'm losing, but I'm going to be a blob of skin if I don't exercise. HELP
    Norma
  • Hi Norma. Thanks for your concern. Actually it was not my ankle. I have plantar fascitis and bone spurs... AND a tricky knee. So it was my feet which were in so much pain, but I'm giving them the old treatment. They pretty much always hurt but most of the time I can just grin and bear it and keep going.

As for exercise, my advice is to start slowly and do NOT feel badly if you don't crank out as much as some of us. We are all at different levels and by nature very different. LOL when I started in again after my surgery and horrible weight gain, I could walk a block or so without leaning on a pole or sitting on the rocks, etc. to rest. I was soooooooooooo proud of myself the first day I got in 10,000 steps! Yesterday I had 8,000 and considered it a total goof off day!

Also, even though with my commute I am gone 11 hours a day, I am single so don't have other people to take care of when I come home. So it is easier for me to go jump into the pool or take a long walk, even if the house does look a shambles.

Don't compare yourself to others... just set a SMALL goal that will work for you and commit yourself to sticking with it. It has to be a DECISION -- if you base it on a feeling or some mysterious "motivation" you won't do it. Try to find something you enjoy... but even if you don't just DO it as you do other things you don't particularly want to such as go to work.

But wait wait wait -- you seem to think the rest of us are just RARING to get up and get out there and exercise! Well perhaps we are learning to think that way but believe me... most of us have to force ourselves to get up off our butts and get out there just like you do! LOL otherwise we would not be this fat to begin with. We have just learned to enjoy the results so much that we are learning to enjoy the actual exercise.

Example: Tonight after work I wanted sooooooooooooo badly NOT to go to the pool but just curl up with a book. But I forced myself to go... and once I got out there I was SO happy with myself that I was saying to myself "I'm DOING it! Yay for me!" I didn't particulary want to stay out there for 80 minutes doing water aerobics... but I am SO thrilled with how much more limber and energetic I am that I could rejoice in it. But this is NOT an easy process for ANY of us... it is HARD HARD work.

BTW your quote reminds me of one I saw posted here when I first began my weight loss journey... "If you love the results, learn to love the process." That has been SUCH a blessing to me and I don't even remember who posted it. I work at enjoying the journey. You CAN do it too! Congratulations on your 7 pounds loss... great start!

    Blessings
  • Misti, thanks for the advice and support. I guess I keep remembering the good old days and I could do anything I set my mind too. I wanted to join the Army after high school and I had to lose 30 lbs to join up. In basic I got down to 124lbs and my sergeant told me to gain some back because I looked so bad. I stayed at 140 for my career. After marrying and getting out and three children I ballooned up to 180 (I'd love it now). I wanted to become a police officer and I had to lose 30lbs again and within 3 months with diet and exercise I did it. While I was in uniform, I could maintain my weight. Now 20 years later, I can hardly walk to the car. I tried working at Walmart and tore a tendon just walking about 9 months ago and it still swells standing for an hour. I would love to work out of the house but I can't stand on my feet and sitting jobs are not available this far out into the country. It seems like a vicious circle. My weight has caused my joint and ankle pain and limits amount of exercise but without exercise I won't lose weight effectively.
When you first started dieting, what did you do? I'm 45 minutes from the city so no pools, parks or even paved roads nearby. What do you think of treadmills?
    Norma
  • Went up town today with my hunny and walked all over the place (really should have worn better shoes my feet are killing me lol) .. so it totalled up to 43 minutes of walking (I kept timing myself when I was walking then stopped it when I sat down lol). My calves are a little sore being on my feet so long .. but Im rather proud that I didnt have to use my sticks at all AND I told Scoot not to park in the disabled parking so that I could walk just a little further every time

    Personal Total: 198 + 43 = 241/400 - 159 left to go!! (woohoo)

  • I'm so excited, I'm going hiking today so I should probably be able to add 2 hours or so later on. For now, I'll just count the 20 minutes of yoga last night.

    Personal total: 375 + 20 = 395
    Group total: 11340 + 20 = 11360

Ladies, it looks like we are averaging around 1000 minutes per day. That is awesome!
