  • Trish, remember the book "Magic Foods for Better Blood Sugar ". It recommended beans. I think the fiber outshines the carbs as they do have carbs
    I'm up early but hope I can go back to sleep.

    I often wondered if your DH still eats cauliflower at bedtime. It is very healthy. I'm still craving broccoli. I have a big bag in the freezer downstairs but I have to separate it into smaller bags that can be brought upstairs . It is Birdseye and tastes much better than the Great Value maybe I will do that today.

    I'm glad your DH is feeling better. The extra sleep he got probably helped I hope you don't catch what he had
  • I did go back to sleep for 3.5 more hours for a total of 8 hrs 38 minutes. Scale is up .2. to 182. I think I'm weighing at different times each morning. So that's the reason for the fluctuations, which are only a few tenths.

    My scale measures weight,fat, bone, muscle etc, including body water. My water is always around 37%. Normal is between 40-60%, so that tells me I am not retaining fluid. So I should not need Lasix. I would like to discuss that with someone who really knows. Im a little low, but it doesn't seem dangerously low. I never noticed the number when I was taking the Lasix. I might weigh in the middle of the day to see if it goes up after I drink and eat. Over 60 is excessive.

    It says online that fat tissue holds less water and muscle hold more. So that explains why mine is low.
  • I'm glad I cooked the beans all night, because I am dragging today. My neck hurt so bad last night that I took a Tramadol and it was better this morning for a while and then it started hurting again and a headache came along with it. So I took 2 Tylenol just before calling DD. Now I am so sleepy, but neck pain and headache is gone. I wanted to cut up the cantaloupe he bought, but it won't get done this morning.

    There are things I can add to my Low carb diet that will do the things Dr. Li says will help circulation, etc, They are Angiogenesis defense and stimulation, Regeneration defense, Microbiome defense, DNA protection and Immunity defense. There are foods that are on all of them and I will try to take the ones I like that will fit a low carb plan and eat them.

    Carol Sue I still have that book and I think I will get it out and compare some of the foods on his lists with the foods in that book to make myself a really good plan.

    I had my usually egg, bacon with cheese this morning but uses parmesan because it was what he recommended eating. I forgot what was in the parmesan that was healthy for my leg blood flow. He also mentioned eating tomatoes and drinking tomato juice for the lycopene. I love stewed tomatoes and will start eating those again too.

  • I just ate meatloaf. Yum. We were laughing because Rusty won't eat it. I don't know why. I don't make it real spicy. Just very finely chopped onion, celery and carrot. Salt, Pepper, egg, bread crumbs and ketchup. Same as my mothers. When I'm taking the dinner out of the oven, DH is standing behind me with a plate and a fork. No matter how early I cook. I tell him the meat has to rest and he says "Is it tired?". So he cut the meat loaf and it crumbled. His loss. I let the rest of it rest then cut mine. He makes me angry when he doesn't wait for me to say its ready but he won't change. He made me put a lot of potatoes around it so I told him he better eat them all. He wasn't always like that. I told him when we are in a restaurant he should go back to the kitchen and tell them how to cook his food.

    We have no money so I will be cooking dinner for the next 3 days. Pork and sauerkraut tomorrow, chili on Monday and probably chicken on Tuesday. Social security on Wednesday so we can go to TX Roadhouse .

    I started buying cut up stew beef to put in my vegetable soup. I never used to put meat in it because the meat would not get tender but a woman told me to put it in the pressure cooker so now it gets very tender. Someday I want to buy that stew meat and make beef stroganoff. I never made that before. I don't know if DH will like it.

    I like stewed tomatoes the way my mother made them, with pieces of bread to soak up the juice. Thats another thing DH might not like. My mother was a very good cook after my father passed away. Maybe he didn't like things either.
  • Total calories today was 1023 and carbs 45 g. We didn't eat the pork chops because DH didn't think he could eat it today so I told him we have to eat it tomorrow so it won't go bad. We had a salad and a bowl of beans. I drained my beans and put them in my salad. It was good and I had cottage cheese dish for supper. I stopped eating before 7 pm. and was satisfied with what I ate for the day.

    Talked to DS while she ate lunch. She was tired but called to talk to me before she took a nap. I took one when we hung up. It is good to know she was hungry and wanted to eat. She is going on September 26th the day before she goes to the hospital get the port put in.

    Headed for bed. I will sleep good tonight. I hope DH feels better tomorrow. He has coughed so much that his stomach muscles are sore.
  • Last night I slept for 8 hrs and 36 mins, and yesterday was 8 hrs and 38 mins. So my sleep is consistant! Within 2 minutes.

    Scale is down .4 to 181.6, but its down 2 lbs since last Sunday. But in my heart I know its just fluctuating, not really going down,unless I start getting serious now.

    I was planning on cooking pork and sauerkraut today unless DH says no. I have everything to make it. I hope I have hotdogs because he likes hot dogs in it too, and kielbassi.

    How did you cook your beans? Did you put ant seasoning in them? A woman on the LC forum cooks beans and cornbread and shares with her neighbor. She lives in the Carolinas. DH would never eat that!

    I hope your DH feels better. Its hard to cough so much. I'm also glad your sister felt like eating. Thats a good sign.

    I put the pork chops and sauerkraut on to cook. The water boiled away, the pot and sauerkraut got burned, but the pork chops were tender. So luckily I had more sauerkraut so I put it on with the hot dogs and kielbassi and I'm going to watch it do it doesn't burn. Im making instant mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. DH is on the phone with brother watching the football game. He would make real mashed potatoes otherwise. Instant are good enough for me. I like to put sauerkraut on them. My dad always did that. I seem to like to eat the way my Dad did. My mother always made the decision what to cook and we ate it or went hungry.

  • I was sick today. I think it was just a reaction to the other brand of my infusion. I ended up having potty issues all day. Weight has been the same for 3 days. FBG was back down under 110s. Can't remember if it was 104 or 107. I'm thinking my I can't do these treatments and eat fat.

    I just seasoned my beans with salt, onion and garlic powder and I put about a cup of chopped ham in it for flavor. You could use any meat you want for flavor. I used to use link sausage in my beans but I doubt DH would like it. DH#2's SIL and I used to make what she called Cajun beams where you used link sausage cut up in our pinto beans and served over rice. It was good but like I said DH wouldn't like it.

    DS had a lot of company yesterday, so she was tired today but doing pretty good and was hungry when they brought her lunch to her. She is looking forward to going back home Thursday.

    I think DH is feeling better but still has sore throat. Mine is scratchy but that kind of goes with my treatment... a side effect so I don't think I'm affected by DH illness.

  • Scale won't come on today. DH put it on charge so we will see. It doesn't usually go dead, but gets won't first and shows "batt". Also there were no strips left in my new tester. Had to use my old ones. 140. Thats probably right.

    Sleep was 9 hrs 18 minutes. I woke up a lot during the night and also got hungry. I think I get the DP when I sleep late like this.

    Im glad DS is improving and getting her appetite back. Also glad you feel better and DH, too.

    DH wants to leave for breakfast.

  • Weight back down to 157.4 lb, but that is mostly because of potty issues. We will see how it goes tomorrow. Very cloudy sleepy type of day. I dragged out of bed in case DS decided to call me. I haven't heard from her this morning. I'm sure she is getting a shower and also exercising if she can get them to get her up. Her routine will be better when she gets home.

    I slept good and could have slept in but didn't. DH and I have to go to Primary office for blood work and go see him next week. I was supposed to go get haircut tomorrow but not sure I will because I don't want to take anything to beautician. May see if she can postpone until next week.

    Neither of us feel like cooking today so will half a Stouffer's meat lasagna. We will take it easy today and hope we feel much better tomorrow. I ate my usual bacon/egg breakfast with coffee and feeling a little better.

  • This is the 3rd time I lost a post. Its not saving them like it usually does.

    I would love some lasagne but I don't think DH likes it anymore. I don't even know if he is going to want chili today. I miss chili. I hardly ever make it anymore. Only other thing I have is chicken.
    Edit: I found steaks in the freezer so that's another option.

    Once again he wanted to go out for breakfast but hardly ate anything. I told him beforehand that I was ordering oatmeal but would not eat his leftovers. So we let them throw them out. I guess he didn't believe me. I don't know why he does that. He also didn't buy anything at Goodwill. He said they didn't have anything he wanted. They had lots that I wanted but I didn't buy them. There's no room left here for more stuff.

    I got an RX and test strips at Walmart, dog food and a few grocery items, we needed.
  • The chili wasn't very good. I bought tomato sauce instead of diced tomatoes. I could not fine my beef bullion. Our water was shut off again, so we were using bottled water to cook. Also I put too much seasoning in, cayenne pepper and it was hot. I threw away the leftovers. DH looked outside and saw lights and trucks down the road where they were last time. I wonder if its the same problem as before?? It came back on before bed.

    I slept good again. My sleep time and the supplements I'm taking are working. I've been going to bed at 9:30-10::00 instead of staying up late. Taking magnesium, Benedryl,and Tylenol.

    I was up early this morning. Scale at 7:15 was 182.8 I want to see if weight is lower or higher at 9:00-10:00 when I usually get weighed. It will only differ by tenths. They say to weigh at the same time every day but I weigh before I eat or drink.

    DH is up early to put the garbage out. He will probably go back to bed.

    I. was hungry again during the night but not now. I think my blood sugar goes down during the night and that's why I get hungry. Next time I will test when I feel hungry and see. I consider it a good sign.

    Weighed again at 10. 182.4,so .4 lower than 7 am. I don't know if it would always be like that. Ill check again, the next time I get up early.
  • I sleep good when I sleep but I would wake up coughing and go to the bathroom. I got up at my regular time and dressed so I'm ready to go get lab draw at PCP office. I cancelled my hair appointment to get my hair cut and wrote DBIL that I'm not going to see him and DBS. I tried to contact her and her phone wasn't working.

    We will go get blood drawn and then go to the store then get something to eat and come home. I do feel a little better and hope DH will too.

  • I got up too early and now I'm very tired. I cooked my own breakfast, egg on a toasted bagel. At lunch time DH cooked Corned Beef hash and I ate some of that,so I'm not hungry for dinner. DH wanted scalloped potatoes so I made the sauce while he went to the store for potatoes at the local grocery. I will put them in the oven then go lie down. I hope he will watch them.

    I used to get up early every day and that was probably why I napped every afternoon. I like it better when I sleep til 9 or so. m just glad he wants something that I can make for him and I don't have to eat. I feel much better not eating dinner.

    Im sorry your not feeling well That's not good for you and its best that you don't take it to your sister right now. Its best that you just talk on the phone, and maybe wear a mask when you do go to see her, to be sure. You just don't know what to do anymore.
  • Scale at 7:00am 182.6.

    I got up for the bathroom at 2. I tested blood sugar and it was 92. I was not hungry. Got up again at 6. BS was 99. I wasn't hungry but had a headache so I took Tylenol. .Back up at 7:30 for coffee. Now hungry so I ate half a turkey sandwich. I guess I should have eaten dinner last night. Im glad blood sugar was low overnight. I might get the DP now.

    Yres, I got DP. Blood sugar is now 134. I will read again how to stop DP.
  • I took pills and went to bed last night and slept less than an hour and couldn't go back to sleep I think because my mouth was so dry. So I got up and drank some water and just before DH went to bed, I was able to relax and go to bed and slept very well. I woke up with a sore throat but I think that is just from all the coughing I did the last few days.

    Weight is up 2 lbs but that is normal when we eat Taco Bell tacos. I ate 2 yesterday. I told DH to just get me 2 because I will eat 3 to keep from wasting it if he gets it but really want only 2. I ate less than 1000 calories yesterday around 800. I've decided not to plan on eating a certain # of calories. If I think I need to eat them, I end up eating when I'm not hungry. I'm having my collagen coffee now and will cook a small serving of rolled oats for breakfast later. Neither of us feels like cooking today so we will have soup again today. I may add some veggies to my soup. I don't think I will plan meals ahead except for main meal. I think I will do better tracking but not finishing it off so I don't have to eat when I don't want to eat. Will see how I do this way.

    This morning, I could sleep after taking a pain pill last night but I will get busy and exercise and do some house cleaning before DS calls. They have changed a lot of things since Daddy was in a nursing home. She had a follow up drs visit planned with her Primary today but she had to postpone it until next week. They told her if she had gone her insurance wouldn't pay for it because she was in nursing home and she has a doctor there. She gets out tomorrow and will get port Friday and see her primary next week before she starts her treatment. Our Medicare Advantage plan has been really good, but it was sold to someone else and I do so hope it will continue to be good.

    Better get busy or my day will be gone before I know it.
