Default PCOS and bladder infections

Since I haven't read anything about this, I'm curious if PCOS or birth control pills can trigger bladder infections? My daughter has had four since July. One thing she was doing was taking bubble baths, which she quit doing over a month ago, but she still got another bladder infection this week. She has been very careful about hygiene, drinking more water, taking cranberry pills (she doesn't like juice), and she hasn't had any sexual partners.

The family doctor recommended a specialist, but the specialist can't see her until March. The family doctor is on vacation for two weeks so there's no help there either.

Has there been any link between PCOS and bladder infections or has anyone experienced an increase in them after starting birth control pills?

Thanks for the help.

Sheila

Yes there is a link. UTI's and Bladder infections are pretty common in PCOSers.

Here are some ways to avoid it.

Avoid using any powders, perfumes, (even those "designed" for vaginal use) or colored/perfumed toilet paper in the vaginal region. These all can change her PH balance that is natural to her.

Do not douche often. When you insert the douch neck, you can actually be pulling something into the canal. If you must douche, make sure its plain water (no vinegar -empty old contents and fill with plain water) and that its a rarity.

Wear breathable undies

Urinate often. During urinating, do exercises (starting and stopping the stream until nothing left)

Wipe front to back. When suffering diarrhea or if there is a "splash up" from the toilet, make sure she washes her vaginal area before getting redressed. She can buy "gental" babywipes to do this (have her drain out as much as the soap content as possible and put back in 1/4 cup PLAIN water)

Bathing is fine, but she should wash the anal and vaginal areas before getting into the tub. She can do this by sitting on the toilet and using the babywipes.

These are all things that were instructed to me by my Gyna. I have had a SIGNIFICANT amount less of infections then before I took these precautions.

Here are some links as well to help you: http://obgyn.uihc.uiowa.edu/Patinfo/Adhealth/UTI.HTM

I have had pcos since puberty...I am now 31 and this summer I got a UTI out of the blue. It turns out that it was a major indication to my doctor that my insulin resistance turned into diabetes, which unfortunatley it did
Make sure the doctor runs a complete test on her sees where her levels are. Dont take anything for granted.

I kept getting UTIS too...I would get so frustrated because I was doing all of the right things, but they kept coming back anyhow. Turns out it was because of the insulin resistance, kidney stones, etc. **sigh** The things us women go through!!
