Who's here?

I am for the first time in this thread

How are you?

Disappointed, fell off the wagon and working getting back on it. For the really first time ever I'm actively trying to lose weight and doing all the right things, eating right, exercising more, trying veggies and I got discouraged by the lack of weight loss (only a couple of pounds in a month, which really isn't that bad). Combine that with a couple parties/ Superbowl (way to go Packers!) and friend's birthdays and I fell off the wagon and rolled away in the last week!

What are you working on?

This month my goal is to go higher protein/lower carb. More gym time. Soon as it gets nice out doing the C25K program

How was last month?

Disappointing.... but it shouldn't have been, need to re-evaluate my goals

How's your PCOS managment?

Not sure yet. I'm upping my met to 500mg twice a day starting tomorrow. I was seeing a dr about an enlarged thyroid (not PCOS related, but could be weight loss related) and then my husband's insurance switched. So I'm waiting for new cards to set up an appt with a whole new dr and basically start all over. I'm so bummed because my last dr was having me meet with an endocronolgist and I felt like we were starting to find some answers and do something about the thyroid and PCOS and having to start over really sucks!!!! But I'm working on keeping it positive, turning it around and forgetting how much I love fast food :(

I'm so thankful for this website and forum about PCOS, it gives me the strength to start again... and again... and again!

KatsMeow78:

Here is the current thread. It's usually by the month towards the top of the PCOS board. Glad things are looking up! :)

luckymeeks:
:welcome3: to the thread! Glad to hear things are moving for you even though there's a pause with the insurance card thing. That happened to me too and wouldn't you know? Before I could get settled, they changed cards AGAIN and it was just as well because then I could just go back to the old doc!

I'm trying to clean the house in bits and spurts... the headache is killing me today.

chouchoubou 02-09-2011 08:26 PM

Who's here this month?

Chouchoubou. back again, trying to really manage my eating again, on my second day of measuring/counting calories. Trying to stay under 1500 for the week.

How are you?

Not so great. My back is messed up. it went out last month and Ive slowly been recuperating. MRI shows i have 3 herniated discs. It pretty painful. Least painful laying down.

What are you working on?

Recuperating. Doctor said to lose more weight, and suggested the calorie watching. That it would help w/ weight on the back. boy have i been trying (half-assed admittedly) since august. With the cold and iffy weather, its been really difficult to rely on working out indoors plus ive been trying to look for work. my back pain is hindiring the process with this. I can't sit for long.

How was last month?
I tried to lose 10 lbs last month but when my back went out all rules went out of the window. I was feeling so trapped - u need ur back for everything!

How's your PCOS management going?
Luckily things have been ok as far as TOM goes ...last month came really really late though. I have been eating carbs though maybe that's the problem but this week I have been doing good w/ eliminating processed carbs.

I hope everyone is doing well! I hope to be around more often especially with counting calories and to support others in their challenge!

Thank for the support Rana, Babble and astrope. I have the doctors tomorrow for my blood results xxx

astrophe 02-10-2011 09:26 AM

Chou -- Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the back injury -- I hope things are well on the mend!

Babble
-- Are we syncing cycles or something via cyberspace? I got TOM this morning and it was like :cheer: and I'm feeling the change. Like "Aaaaaaah! Much better!" as my mood lifts.

ems81wales : GL! :)

Me:

Still working on the house today. Pro cleaners estimate tomorrow and now I'm trying to schedule energy assessment. Never did one of them either. Adventures galore for me this month. Heh.

luckymeeks 02-11-2011 08:13 AM

astrophe- Thanks! My husband was just talking the other day about looking for a new job, not sure how much work he'll get this summer (he does lawn sprinklers). I told him as long as he can get 40 hours a week, he's staying. His insurance is amazing, no deductible, cheap co-pays. My insurance on the other hand, if we were to take it, would cost us an additional $2000 a year and have huge deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance! Thankfully my husbands insurance is locked in for a year now. I'm still waiting for my cards though!! Grrr.

One upside though, a friend of mine works at the clinic where I'll be going so she was able to recommend a dr that she said is really amazing with womens health issues. Fingers crossed all goes well and cards come in soon.

Hope you ladies have a wonderful weekend!

astrophe 02-11-2011 09:13 AM

babble: I'm on 2nd day, and since mine only last about 3-4 days, I'm in a MUCH better mood! Be funny though if all the PCOS people on this board synced up via cyberspace. I've had ti happen with my mom/sister when we were growing up and IRL friends but never online!

Weekend is way busy with church related stuff. Kid has sunday school things and I have teachery things plus a bunch of other volunteer things. DH and I agreed to keep everything else about the weekend low key, then fob off tasks over to March so the other weekends in Feb can be more restful.

luckymeeks:
I hope the new doc appt goes well! Woule be great if the doc is more knowledgeable with women's health stuff! :)

hey girls still no proper answer my blood test came back saying iron, kidneys, liver and cholestol was normal. My thyroid came back saying it is still over abit it has come down abit from last time when i was on 100mg a day but it is still saying im abit over on 75mg a day im so confused as i am still having underactive thyroid symptoms :( so my doctor is looking up thyroid dissorders now and in the mean time i have to take my temperture 10 times in one day and record it and let him know what they said when he rings me about what he is going to do next about the thyroid.

regarding pcos and endimitriousis im still waiting to see the consultant and my gp said if i dont hear by the first week of march to ring him and he will chase it up xxxxx

justonemorepound 02-12-2011 09:09 AM

Who's here this month?
Me, I was Diagnosed about 4 months ago, REALLY ANGRY because I went to the doctor when I was 16 (21 now) and said I thought I had PCOS she did blood tests said there was no chance ( i know I should have got a second opinion but I was young and she made me feel stupid), I've now been diagnosed by slightly heightened blood tests and symptoms after going back because lack of periods was really worrying me. I'm pretty much a PCOS poster child- loads of hair, period every 4-5 months, extremely difficult to lose weight, doctor only did glucose tests but from what I've read you need insulin tests? to know if you have insulin resistance?

How are you?
Not the best. My doctor immediately prescribed dianette, I asked her about side effects because I went into a really deep depression when I went on microlight (lowest hormon level pill in Ireland & UK), after reading up on it myself I decided to not go on Dianette and try to see a specialist.

What are you working on?
Getting my doctor to refer me to a endocrinologist (she thinks I'd only need one if I wanted to get pregnant).
Getting back on track with a diet, I was losing around 1-2 pounds a week before diagnosis but had gotten to the point where I was severely restricting (calories not carbs) and over exercising, so when I got diagnosed I gave up AND ATE A LOT! I want to try low GI.

How was last month?
No idea how much I gained - this morning was the first time I weighed in around 2 months.

How's your PCOS management going?

Didn't go on Dianette so I'm trying adding supplements to my diet, I would love to find a specialist who would show me ways of dealing with PCOS that don't involve the contraceptive pill.

Oh I bought "chromium picolinate" a while ago but stopped taking it because I read some weird stuff, do any of you think it helps?

sorry it's so long

Rana 02-12-2011 11:55 AM

Hi ladies!!!

I'm back... it's been a crazy week so far, haven't had time to even get online until now. I've been working so hard, I am so happy it's the weekend.

em81 I hopw they figure out what's going on.

justonemorepound In my own research, I decided on taking chromium polynicolinate which is a chromium that is chelated and easily absorbable by the body. I think it has helped in my case. I take 800 mg a day.

I've read that chromium piccolinate isn't helpful.

Keep researching. It's the only way to figure it out.

astrophe/babble Yeah it's pretty weird that we're all on the same cycle now!!!!

ems81wales 02-13-2011 12:30 PM

Thanks rana i hope so to xxx

drummergrrrl 02-13-2011 03:30 PM

Who's here this month?
I'm here rockin' the 3FC forum for the second month! You gals rock!

How are you?
Doing fine. School's a bit stressful, but I have great news ... I have lowered by cholesterol by 60 points since I had it checked last September. I'm hypothesizing that it's because of my new vegetarian ways. This is a huge accomplishment.

What are you working on?
Working on a new fitness plan! My friend is a personal trainer, and she's helping me develop new and exciting exercise routines to help me lose fat %age. I am more interested in doing that right now, as I've reached a weight plateau.

How was last month?
I was quite sick, and then I gave plasma/blood and it kinda messed me up, so I've been a little low-energy.

How's your PCOS management going?
Very well. I've recently gone to the dermo to get my acne issues squared around, and the medication she's giving me is actually working! I am using Retin-A and a mild antibiotic to treat the cystic acne. Would highly recommend this course of action.

ems81wales 02-13-2011 04:41 PM

Just started my totm after 3 months of being on the pill im very heavy :(

astrophe 02-13-2011 07:01 PM

Ems81wales: How's the temp taking? Hopefully this thyroid thing will be pinned down and properly dx'd soon! Thyroid probs can also mess up cycles. But I'm glad yours finally came.

justonemorepound: :welcome2: to the thread! Check out the inciid pcos faq -- esp the tests for dx sections. You may also benefit from a gander at Mary's PCOS Treatment Faq. You are probbaly going through a lot with the dx jsut 4 mos ago -- hang in there ok?

drummergrrrl: :welcome2: to you too! Sounds like things with you are going really well in a lot of areas. That's great!

My Check In:

Had a long day. Lost track of the food log since I had volunteer meetings/classes.

I just wanted to put this out there -- anyone get these needle-like prickly cramps? Is that a PCOS thing? They seem to happen to me in the lower front where the other, dull kind of cramps happens more on the sides. What's up with that?

A.
