Who's here this month?
Hi, this is Honey! How are you? I started another f/t job (meaning I have more than 1) last week and I am tired. Otherwise I'm good. Focusing on things that will improve my life. What are you working on? Continuing to participate in my aquafit class as well as continuing to eat better. How was last month? Last month was friggin FANTASTIC!! I re-started my WL journey last month and lost 18LBS!!! woohoo!! My only goal was to lose about 8lbs, so I am very pleased. All I've been doing is being more active, and eating better options (w/o restricting myself). How's your PCOS management going? Not sure. I havent had TOM in over a year and I'm really hoping that by continuing to lose weight and making better food choices, my body will start to regulate. I am really hoping to ttc next year so I'm really hoping for my PCOS to be in better check. Wtg everyone! This is a new month, a new chance to make even better choices than before. PCOS will NOT destroy our plans to be healthier, and to have normal and regular bodily activities. HUGS ladies. We can do it! |
Quickie Check In:
I just got home and will probably catch up better over the next few days. Just wanted to pop in and share that I had a great time at a women's weekend retreat with 3 other church people I know. I never did anything like that before so it was kind of neat to "go to camp" with a bunch of adult women and bond. We all decided it was so fun we had to try it again next year. I'm trying to spread my wings a bit and you know... explore. Taking my own advice about living Life and not waiting around til the magic goal weight number or age number or work promotion or whatever. Just break out now and then and do something.... NEW! I really got a kick out of it. :) A. |
Hi Honey!
That's great, astrophe! I'm glad you had fun. My own update: Had a Super Bowl party last night and I have to admit that I pigged out. Not out of control, but definitely more food and junk than I would otherwise eat. Of course, the scale is reflecting that party back at me this morning. I'm going to focus on eating as clean as possible for the rest of the week. |
Everyone: I read through your posts in this thread and I wanted to say how much I appreciate the supportive/sharing vibe here even though I don't always have time to do the one-on-one shout outs. You guys rock -- it's part of my PCOS process to be accountable some where and I love that its here! :)
My check in: Today was my rest day from the weekend retreat. This camp stuff was fun, but it is tiring mentally, emotionally, and physically. It was also my day to catch up with my kid, who missed me over the weekend. So it was playing with her all after school and cuddles and all that. Tomorrow I have to pull the house back together. I know DH has a hard time doing the single parent thing when I'm gone to things so I only asked him to try to keep up with the dishes, but I have a cleaning crew appt on Friday to give me an estimate for what it would be to deep clean and get this back in order. Even before I left I was doing major garage declutter so my attention was all out over there, and the insides were getting kinda grubby and then there was the kid's bday last weekend with all these people trucking around here. So I feel like it would be good to try having pros come in once. Anyone ever done that? This would be our first time trying that, so I'd welcome tips. I'm not sure we could afford pros regularly but I could probably manage once a year after the long holidays with the kid's bday capping it all off at the end of Jan. See? I'm all about the experiments this year -- camp, pro cleaners. Not glam but NEW adventure things to me! LOL. ;) Back to the PCOS topic... you know, I'm still not sure on the Met. I had filled it, but even eating away over the weekend and eating today here at home... I've stuck with the new 1800. I had to do some readjustements at first to new exchange pattern but I'm old at exchanges so it's been a relatively smooth transition. And it may even be right -- I've been seeing the scale move. That was my whole frustration with the endoc. If I can have a starting number, I can work it backward from that. I was just annoyed that she could give me a starting number that was accurate! It seems like process of elimination has gotten me to the right starting number, but I am being cautiously optimistic and won't trumpet it from the roof tops just yet. Just pleased to see the scale start to MOVE again even if it's itty bitty. So what do you guys think? Endoc was suggesting it if I felt I needed it but I'm feeling like maybe I just don't. If the IR is under control with diet and labs are fine, and I'm not really feeling all out of sorts from the calorie drop like I thought I might... why bother? Met never helped me lose, it just stopped gain and the blood sugar freak outs. But I'm not having freak outs and I'm starting to lose at it matches the food log predictions finally so... ??? A. |
Astrophe, I was in the same situation back in September/October when my endo prescribed Met for me too. But I decided not to take it because when I reduced my calories to 1500 and I started taking my other supplements, I saw the scale move and I was fine.
I haven't taken the Met although the prescription is there. I think you should continue, as long as you are being careful with your diet. My weight moves glacially slow too, but if you're seeing the scale more down and not stay the same or go up, then I think you're doing exactly what I'm doing! (And I feel great!!!!) My own update: No period yet. Tick tock, tick tock. Waiting. Hello, where are you?? After the SB pig out, I'm back within my calories and exercising. This week will be interesting because I have work obligations that will have me eating out. I'm planning on sticking to what I know. I'm still feeling the effects of the sodium (on my body and on the scale). |
Rana: Thanks for the input! Yeah, I think I'm going to wait and see. I have it in case, but you know, if the whole problem was not having the right AMR and now I have something more workable... I'm going with it.
I'm in the TOM wait too. Having urges for chocolate and steak time. And I really do want steak! But the urges aren't as strong this cycle -- maybe the extra vitamins is the reason? I hope I get it soon though. Being at that place of "strong smells making me gag" isn't fun. I don't know why this is a TOM symptom for me but it is! A. |
New to 3fC and PCOS
Who's here this month?
Hi, this is my first time posting here. I was just diagnosed with PCOS last week, and am starting the Atkins diet to lose weight and hopefully manage my PCOS symptoms How are you? A little anxious due to the PCOS diagnosis and hoping that the Atkins diet will help. BF and I aren't attempting to concieve, so main goal is to just get healthy! What are you working on? At day 5 of the first phase of Atkins. Haven't seen any wight loss, but my appetite has definitely increased. I am pretty anal about absolutely minimizing any sort of carb intake. I am really excited about joining this forum, and am looking forward to learning from everyone's experiences and sharing similar stories! How's your PCOS management going? Diagnosed last week, going back to the Gyno in a couple weeks to do additional blood work and to discuss treatment options. I'm hoping that losing 15-20 pounds will really help |

Hi everyone :)
On my phone at the moment, comp broke so will be without for awhile, can't really copy/paste those questions so ill jusy say whatever :p I'm fristrated, keep going up and down a pound and my eating has been spot on...except maybe the carbs, but bleh I feel better/full when I have my cereal and bread..(Brown ofcourse) so don't want to give it up lol I do have some bloating but I'm assuming that's more cause I don't have my gallbladder anymore and usually have some problems etc Noo idea when period will next show..its been months and month..its been a lot worse since I had my son, almost four years ago..even went a year with everyday bleeding and ended up prettu anemic lol thankfully don't have that problem anymore..but I am thinking about another baby one day but definitely need to lose weight first.. Its hard and discouraging not seeing the results I should be having...I'm not on any meds, I really don't want to be on any yet..seeing how this weight loss goes first..tried bc pill a bit but I'm always sick and hate them lawl Sleep is slowly gettin better..had the worst insomnia for longest time and dealin with an active three year old was beyond exhausting...been so great feelin better already since starting in jan .. Ugh there's NO way I can ever again quit..can't believe how sick I was Depression is getting better slowly I think but anxiety isn't much better..I'm agoraphobic so I barely get outside , and I would so love to be able to go for walks with my son one day, for both our benefit. Anyway, great to see others around, so encoraging to know I'm not completely alone :) |
Well I suppose I should fill this out as well even though I am new here and don't know you all yet.
Who's here this month? My name is Katrina How are you? Been having a lot of depression and anxiety. Healing from a hysterectomy on Jan. 20th 2011 where they found the Tell tale polycystic ovaries and that along with my other symptoms dx me with PCOS. Went in for my blood tests today to do a metabolic panel. I never had the anoovulation and I had my kids very early on before the ovulation issues began. but my ovaries showed that even though I was having cycles, they were not fertile cyles so I am so happy I had my kids early:) What are you working on? Trying not to freak out over the PCOS dx and look at it as a blessing that I found out and get some answers to the issues I've had over the years. Seems it is all linked to insulin resistance and hormonal imbalance which I can help with diet, exercise and supplements. Going to beging the Insulite PCOS program soon. and I am walking daily and following a low sugar low carb way of eating. How was last month? Last month I spent preparing for surgery, trying to get everything clean and organized. Also researching hysterectomy a lot making sure I was making the right decision. I was in daily pain due to my ovary being adhered to the side of my uterus among other issues so I think it was the right decision for me. How's your PCOS management going? It is just begining but I think Im off to a good start:) I am very glad:) to meet everyone! |
Welcome everyone!
astrophe, I do think supplements help with PMS and magnesium in particular. I take 500 mg every day. Oh, and I finally got my period! woohoo!!!!!!! Welcome SiriusColorado! Ems, I hope you find an answer soon.... or that everything gets balanced so you don't feel so bad anymore! Aisten, when I hit a loooong plateau, I had to start cutting back on carbs or calories. I cut back on calories not carbs, but it was hard.... I've been doing lower carb and higher calorie and I have been losing steadily... just letting you know my experience. KatsMeow, I hope the insulite program works for you. Is it a series of pills and supplements or is it something else? |
Hello Rana, The insulite PCOS program is a bunch of supplements that are specifically supposed to help with insulin resistance, Liver health and hormonal balance. It sounds like good stuff so I am going to give it a try:)
|
SiriusColorado: :welcome2: aboard!
ems81wales: Aw... sorry you are feeling blah and aren't sure which of your conditions is the culprit. That makes it hard to know what to fix! alsten02: :welcome3: Were you on a triphasic birth control pill? Those make me crazy -- I'm better on monophasic. Glad some things are looking up as you work on others. And no... you are not alone! :) KatsMeow78: You sound like you are taking the dx well! I remember I cried and was blue and was angry and... I guess we all take it in different?:D Rana: Woohoo, TOM! I:cheer: I guess Babble and will keep waiting for ours and chant in the corner "TOM! TOM! TOM!" til it happens. Honeybee: How is the new job going? :) Babble: Great! Both on veggie exploring :carrot: and PALA experimenting. I have another 2 stars to go on PALA so maybe 2 more weeks? I was starting to think maybe the next thing if I do not repeat PALA would be to repeat the Route 66 little car thing. I like doing that one too. http://aarp.getfitonroute66.com/ Kiddo is asleep and I'm trying to see if DH is walking or not. If he is, I'll walk. If he isn't, I'll stick in a weights DVD because I haven't done weights in a LONG time. I discovered I can stick my wii controllers in my pockets and walk on the treadmill we have in the living room. He can do all the clicking and navigating around in the wii "walk it out" game and I can just help earn spending coins while getting a better quality walk on the treadmill with full range of leg motion. A. |
Argh! Migraine! Junk food cravings! Cramp like little needle pin pricks!
C'mon, TOM! Hurry up already! A. :( |
Astrophe: actually I also cried and was very depressed at first because I felt that this was yet another health issue to add to my list but the more I read the more it seems that all my other health issues are tied in with the PCOS insulin resistance and hormonal imbalance so now I feel like I may actually be able to get somewhere. :)
I'm sorry your having migraines:( hope you feel better soon. Say where do you all track your exercise at on this forum? Right now Im doing it in the main exercise thread but is there on for PCOS too? Thanks! |
