I hear ya. My bday AND 10 yr Anniversary is coming up next week............so I am gonna splurge...........but you can plan your outings, just go to the restaurants websites (most have them now) and check out the menu and all beforehand, that way when you get there, you already know what your having, don't even look at the menu, just order............. If you don't know where you are going, just scope a few of you and your friends fav places so you have something in mind......... Just a little tip, good Luck and I hope your Bday is a Great One!
  • Hello ladies!

I didn't have a chance to update from work earlier.

    xraygirl:
I know. And especially when someone is paying! I am not a "diet" person. I eat what I want in moderation, and I'm beginning to really enjoy cooking veggies at home. When we do go out to eat, I focus on protein and veggies and lay off so much on breads and potatoes and cheeses. Sometimes I go overboard but I also exercise a lot. I would say to choose where you want to go to eat, know what's on the menu already and choose what you're going to get before you get there. Don't even look at a menu when you get in. And if you get dessert, get one and share it with everyone and you'll be satisfied. All it takes is a few bites of cake or ice cream or something rich to have the taste, and then beyond that is just going to make you feel bad. But good luck! It's your birthday - have fun, but maybe you can also say "it's my birthday and I'm not going to lose control of myself, and I'm going to have a great day"

    Sassy:
Thanks for the welcome. I've been on the 3FC boards for several years and have yet to really find a place where I feel I fit in - I hope this is the place! I've never thought to post with the PCOSers!

Well, my husband and I commute together and I couldn't wake him up. Mondays are so hard. We typically go to the gym together in the mornings but we were running so late that I could only get in 33 minutes on the elliptical machine. I usually do 60 or 65 minutes and get in about 6 miles. But I got in 3 miles. Hopefully I can get in my 60 or 65 mins.

    Update tomorrow!

Glad to have you here with us. I say give yourself credit for getting up and exercising!! Even if its not what you "normally" do, you got up and did something, so that is great.

  • Thank you for the advice. Those are some really good ideas. I usually look at a menu and want everything. If I know in advance, I'm not so tempted. My husband bought me a mini trampoline for my birthday. I got it on Sunday and have used it Sun and Mon. I was using muscle I didn't think I would use. My calf muscles were burning. Hopefully this will keep me motivated to exercise.
  • Good Evening Ladies,

    Sassy:
Thanks. I know. I get so anal about my routine. This is the first time in my life that I'm actually in a routine, and I've been doing this since April. 5-6 days a week, mornings. It's the best part of my day.

    xray:
cool - I have heard that mini trampolines are great for exercise and circulation!

Exercise today a 60 minute run on the elliptical, 5.75 miles.
It was nice and sweaty and I stretched for longer than usual.

    I'll report in tomorrow.

    Girlie
  • Hi All.

Not much going on, just work......... One more night after tonight ..........hopefully anyways. We just got an email about mandatory training. I emailled my boss asking if I could possibly do it once I get back from vacation.

Xray -- WTG with the exercise!

Girlie -- "Your doing maaarrvelllouus Daaarllinnnngg" lol.

to anybody who may need a hug today!
  • Girlie-That is awesome being able to get up and exercise like that. Hopefully I will be up to that soon.

Sassy-I hope you have a great time on you vacation.

Did anyone happen to watch the biggest loser last night. It was so inspirational for me. The teams with the parents and children really helped to motivate me. I don't want to be up there with my sons.
  • Good evening all!

    Sassy:
What are you doing for vacation? That sounds exciting! My husband and I are in the works at planning a (cheap) vacation in November. We usually take the week of Thanksgiving off. Last year was Hawaii, but I'm still paying that one off We're thinking of taking the train from Chicago to NYC, to Philadelphia, back to Chicago and spending a couple nights in each city. I'm surprised at how inexensive Amtrak is. It would be close if not cheaper than driving, and they do all the work while we relax.

That reminds me of our trip to Hawaii last year. I was miserable, about 260lbs and just feeling terrible about myself. It's one of those things when I don't know when I'll ever be able to do it again, but I was miserable there. I didn't even want to take any pictures of myself there, I felt so terrible and fat. This Thanksgiving will be different! I will feel much better about myself.

    xray:
Darn it, I missed the biggest loser! I just don't have a schedule where I can be at home at the same time every night to watch a certain show...so I typically just catch episodes when I happen to be home. Those transformations are always so crazy, but you also have to be realistic and remember that their sole job is to exercise all day and work on losing weight. Honestly, I don't think it's very healthy to be losing 15, 20 pounds per week! But still, it is inspiring to hear the stories and see the weight loss! So I plan to lose along with them!

    Today...
I did my hour on the elliptical today, 5.77 miles. I think tomorrow I'll do 65 minutes and get to 6 miles. I was sweating like crazy, but it's a great challenge. Just back in April I could hardly do 30 minutes, I just worked my way up adding on another five minutes over the months until I did 65 minutes. From there, I started working on small goals, like going faster and getting in 10000 steps in an hour, then 11,000, then 12,000. Now, I'm going to work on doing 65 minutes and making sure I hit 6 miles, and maybe start upping the resistance more. It's a really good all-in-one sort of workout.

Have a good night ladies. We're having Chinese tonight, Chicken and Vegetables. Not really low in fat but at least I'm getting my veggies in.

    Girlie
  • Hola Amigas!!!
    Hola Amigas!

Well I came in to a surprise tonight at work. The girls I work with decorated my cube with streamers, balloons, etc.........and bought me presents (perfume and bath and body stuff!) and even bought me cake! It was so sweet........

So tonight is my last night..........then at 9:30 am, my vacation begins! YES!

What r we doing? Not sure.......just gonna be taking it day by day..........all our friends wanna hang out with us because usually when I'm off, they are all working and vice versa...........

and I think that for my bday/anniversary present to myself this year I am going to get me and my DH a gym membership again. We had one a couple years back and then stopped due to financial. I mean I know that I can exercise at home or just take a walk, but I just need some serious exercise because well I just need it! lol. Plus I can do both, work out at home and the gym too.........I just wanna get motivated!!!

My DH has had his 2nd interview and I am extremely hopeful that he will be getting this job and he so wants to go and work out and swim and all, sooooooo that is what I want to do. Also my coworker that I work with every night, all night long wants to do the WL thing with me, so we can encourage one another and that is important. I mean this site is great, but to have support IRL as well is extremely important...........................

  • New, Frustrated, and Looking for some New Friends That Get It!
    Hey people!

So before I ramble about my "PCOS" experience... I have questions, just from reading yalls amazing posts:

    1) What is the "clean" eating you all talk about?
    2) DH
    3) Did someone say fish oil?

And then seeking some suggestions from you guys for what has worked for you... So, I am in this awkward phase...I had lost about 25-30 pounds doing the diet that was laid out in A Patient's Guide to PCOS... however, when I hit 182 I plateau'd biiiig time. The only thing that seemed to work was killing myself in workouts which is, as you all know, tough to maintain. I started law school a month ago and stress eating kicked in, I just moved and my prescription for Fortamet ran out, and so I gained some poundage really quickly. ;o)

My goal is to get back down to 182 and hopefully my new endocrinologist who I meet in early October will have some ideas to get me to the right healthy weight.

Anyways, again, any thoughts on how to break the plateau inertia?! I am such a goal oriented girl, I stick to what seems to work so HOLLER!

OH BDAY and ANNIVERSARY girls: congrats! I was going to say, a trick that worked for me when I was being hard-core good with my eating was to go to a place like a Thai restaurant and get the Chicken Satay -- or anything that would serve chicken or steak skewers.

So glad to stumble on this place... I was feeling pretty insecure and annoyed with myself for letting my duty to my health slip for those law books and bagels!
  • Hello and Welcome, Bball Girl!
    Hello and Bball girl!

    Answers to your questions:

    1) Clean Eating -- Means eating the food basics and not the junk food with preservatives, artificial stuff, etc, etc.......

    2) DH = Dear Husband and just as an FYI if you go to the very first post of this thread, I have links to both Basic and Infertility Forum Abbreviations for future reference.

    3) Yes Fish Oil is wonderful!!! I take it 3 times a day with a meal, or I try too! It has lowered my cholestrol 20 points! It is good for your heart, your joints, lots of things. You can buy fish oil pills in most stores, usually by the vitamins. Its better if you can, to buy the coated ones and always, always take them with food or milk or something otherwise you may belch fish....... Another option, better option, but not always possible..........is to eat Omega 3's (the good stuff that is in fish oil pills) that is in fish, spinach, tofu and other forms of soybeans, canola, walnut and flaxseed, and their oils, etc, etc....

Thank You for the Bday and Anniversary Wishes. Mine are both next week.

You have come to the right place. This site is packed FULL of information and knowledgable people!!!

We are glad that you are here with us!

  • Good Day Ladies - I managed to log on from work instead of late night postings. Today's Exercise: 60 minutes on elliptical machine, 5.75 miles

    Bball Girlie:
Welcome - please stick around! Glad to have you, I just started posting here too. I'm sorry about the plateau. I haven't really had a true plateau yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Seeing changes keeps me motivated, but if I saw no changes for weeks and weeks, I'd get so discouraged. I do know that with PCOS and such, I'm just going to have to live with the fact that I have to be active every day until I can't be any longer.

    Sassy:
Whoo for vacay. And even better when you have no plans but to chill. Sometimes vacations are work and you need time to recover from them!
  • YAY VACATION!
