I washed a pair of sharp scissors from the first aid kit with alcohol, and just snipped the little bugger off. It bled like mad, hurt like the dickens, and got infected (nothing serious, just should have used antibacterial cream right afterward, and for a few days).
My grandmother used to say to tie a thread around them tight and they'd fall off (not sure if that's any more safe or hygienic).
I have quite a few of the little nasties, and I just haven't the nerve to try it again. Every once in a while, when I'm in the doctor's office I have him cut or burn them off.
I have those too and I hate them!!! I have them on my face too under my eyes. Hmmm I wonder if I can find a picture that shows that. But yea I have had them for years and I hate it. My bf wants to just cut them off too lol.
This one is on my eyelid. I have had it forever and I have an event coming up in two weeks and I want it gone - I am really self conscious about it. I had my NP remove two in my armpit last week but she wouldn't do this one. She said to have the dermatologist do it but he can't get me in until December. I want to take a nail clipper to it - carefully - but am nervous it my not stop bleeding and I can't put a bandage there.
I've removed them myself only when they're very new and tiny...and they didn't really hurt at all. I tried a larger one once, and it did bleed and hurt a lot. One small one I removed was right under my eyebrow, but I'd be worried about poking around the eyelid too much, especially if the nurse wouldn't touch it.
I think that's why the eyelid is such a bad place for one. Putting pressure on it isn't really an easy option. You would almost need a styptic pencil, or something like that to stop the bleeding, and I don't know if that is something that should be used by the eye?
You might consider calling back the nurse practitioner, and asking if anyone in the office would be able to remove it, because the dermatologist cannot see you before the event. Maybe a gp in the office would be willing to do it. Another option, if your insurance plan allows you to do consult a cosmetic surgeon (with or without a referral).
I had to see a cosmetic surgeon to remove a tooth with a failed root canal (the jaw was infected, and he was the best guy in my local to do the work on my jaw). I was shocked that I was able to get in only a couple days after my referral. When I went in, I just happened to mention a mole near my eye that I'd always wanted removed. He set up an appointment for only 2 or 3 days later and zapped that little thing right off. The whole appointment took maybe 10 minutes. My insurance wouldn't cover it unless it was a diagnostic not solely cosmetic procedure, so the surgeon had it sent to the lab to test for skin cancer. If it had been skin cancer, it would have been of the type that removing it should have been sufficient, but the extra lab test satisfied the insurance (and made me feel a lot better too, or I always would be worried it might grow back).
and apparently there are some products you can put on them to make them disappear (again, I'd be a little concerned about this on the eyelid), but it gave me another idea, and that is to ask your pharmacist about these products, and if any of them are safe to use on the eyelid).
You guys rock !!!! To be honest - it hadn't occured to me that it would be nearly impossible to put pressure on it there. With my luck I'll bleed so much I won't be able to see. I can't really put something on it - too dangerous. I DID try tying a thread around it last night - I wish I had it on video - must have been hysterical. I was trying tio keep that eye closed - pull the tag up so it was sticking out and then tie the TINY thread and pull it tight at the base - all while trying to see out of one eye that my hands were in front of !!!!!! Took me an hour but I got it - couldn't really pull it tight though - and this morning I woke up with blue thread in my eyeball and panicked - couldn't figure it out until I looked in the mirror !!!
