Thanks for asking, PQ! I'm staggering, slightly. No particular reason but I find being on plan so easy - until suddenly I'm not, and I'm racing behind the waggon, pausing for cake en route!!

Will try to do better.

PQ, you are so close to being there! Well done!!

Evening Chicks!

Carol Sue school is hectic but everyone is settling in, and I have great classes. The character building program that was started a few years ago in the lower grades is really making a difference. I love my kids!

Rosinante good to see you. Keep on keeping on, I ne day at a time.

Good news out of Florida. Bro had pre surgery doctor visit and the echo gram today. His doctor personally called him later in the day to tell him that his heart was now working at 48%.....up from 25% the past couple of months! They thought 25% was going to be his max, now they're telling him the sky's the limit! Doctor canceled surgery (pacemaker/defibrillator combo implant)..... He doesn't need it. We're so do happy. He goes back in a month for another echo and he'll be asking if he can fly up here to spend a week at thanksgiving.

Night night :)

Happy weekend everyone! It's supposed to rain in my part of Ohio all weekend :( But I have loads of inside work that I really should get to.

I've had pasta and/or rice for almost every meal since dinner of last Sunday and I've lost all week. I'm still doing IF 16:8 and it's really been helpful in keeping within my calories for the day. Just by waiting until 10:45 to have my "brunch" and then a fairly whopping dinner, I have a deficit every day but still feel sated.i know it's not for everyone but I like it so much I'm going to stick with it for maintenance. It's seems that the starchy carbs do not affect me as much now. Only 5.4 lbs to go to hit my original goal from July, 2015 (although I think at first I had it down as 135). I'm still jelly rolling the tummy area and I'm still packing some extra insulation on the thighs, but overall I look and feel so much better.

Tomorrow morning it's a 1.5 hr tai chi class......I hope I like it!

Brunch - pre made Caesar salad, leftover potato stacks
Snack - herbed popcorn
Dinner - homemade prosciutto/onion/balsamic pizza, moscato x2

Wannabehealthy 09-21-2016 07:12 AM

This poor thread seems to be dying out. I know I don't get here like I used to.

PQ you are doing amazing considering you are still eating carbs. It proves that low carb is not necessarily the only way to go. I still have to avoid them due to blood sugar spikes, but even my close friend is still including them and has lost 16 lbs in the past 2 months. It's possible that the IF has changed your metabolism.

I have been reading/watching Dr Fung's blog and video about IF. He talks about fasts that last for days. He says that calorie deprivation is detrimental to your metabolism. I want to know how extended fasts are different from calorie deprivation, but so far, no one can answer that question for me. I can certainly understand an eating window, such as 16:8.

Good luck with your tai chai class. I thought that was tea! LOL

Rosinante, hope you're doing well and your health continues to be good. Put down that cake!!! LOL

PrairieQueen 09-21-2016 02:02 PM

Thanks Carol Sue! I can't believe how far I've come in 15 months and that I've been able to stick with it. It's just my norm now. Seems like IF has jumpstarted the weight loss (2.4 lbs since 9/01) and I'm hoping to reach my first goal by Halloween. Just 5.4 lbs to go! I know it's going to get tougher and tougher as I try to burn off those last few pounds of (belly/thigh) fat :) But I just keep on trucking.

In other news, bro continues to improve and will hopefully get the okay at his October appt. to spend a week with us at Thanksgiving. If my mom would come, it would be so much easier....she knows his med routine, etc., but don't know if she wants to spend the $$. Anyway, I'm off that week, and I'm sure I can handle all of his med timing, etc. They were here in April after I was down there, but the traveling did a number on him. It was too soon.

Yesterday....
Brunch - turkey & spaetzle w/gravy, bell pepper slaw
Dinner - Steak salad, sweet potato fries, two lite beers

Today so far....
Brunch - one slice sourdough toast with roast beef, swiss, and pickled peppers
Snack - dill pickle
Dinner - going to a new Mexican restaurant w/friend (I hope I can behave!)

PQ I hope you and your brother enjoy your visit and he does well. It's so amazing how far he's come.

Today I have decided to get back on the wagon. I fell off badly yesterday with too much bread. Today we are planning on eating at a restaurant, and I already plan on ordering Salmon, with broccoli and carrots. I know their menu off by heart and know just what to order. I love salmon. I would rather have carrots as a starchy vegetable than potatoes. We have a 20% off coupon, which makes it even better!

Keep on going with your eating plan, PQ. You are doing so well. Because of my diabetes I have to watch my carbs a little more closely, but otherwise, you are an inspiration to me.

How's it going Rosinante? I guess everyone else is gone. :(

Hi, so glad I found this group! I just started with the slow-carb plan a few days ago and feel great! I moved to the UK about a year ago from the US and put on about 30 lbs that I need to lose. I'm just taking it one day at a time and going to the gym about 5 times per week.

Looking forward to sharing in all the success! :carrot:

PrairieQueen 09-27-2016 08:12 PM

Welcome motivated! Things used to be hopping Around here, but has been a little slow lately. Maybe you can breathe some life back into it :)

Hi Carol Sue, Rosinante, and all you MIAs! I'm still trucking along. Aunt Flo is visitingnot so Ive got a few pounds of water weight hanging around. I'm hoping for a new low by Friday.....fingers crossed.

Today...
Brunch - harvest salad, cup of pasta w/chicken sausage
Dinner - 1/2 quesadilla, 1/2 order sweet potato fries, glass wine

Rosinante 09-29-2016 03:12 AM

Ha!, Wannabehealthy! I did finally put the cake back down, and have been hard at it since Sunday. Just had overnight oats for breakfast, and will have protein and salad for lunch, protein and veggies for dinner. Not quite got them planned yet.

Suddenly I remember how much better I feel by being in control of what I eat! This is good because tomorrow I'm at the maxillo-facial unit at a nearby hospital, on referral from my dentist. I *think* he's just being overly cautious......Here's hoping.

Good luck, everyone, hope you're all doing well :carrot: :)

Had a good day yesterday foodwise:

Breakfast- hardboiled eggs with spinach and avocado
Lunch- chili with a mixed bean salad
Dinner- grilled chicken with blackbeans and guacamole and a glass of red wine

Didn't make it to the gym as I stayed in London overnight, but walked to my office and back which took about 35 minutes so it was something :)

Have a great day!!

Wannabehealthy 09-29-2016 07:58 AM

Hi Motivated. Welcome! We had a woman on here for a while that did slow carb 100% and lost a lot of weight, but she hasn't been here for a while. I don't follow the slow carb plan but I still come and post with my friends I've made here. Good luck to you with the plan!

How did it come about that you moved to UK? Was it work related, or family related?

motivated1977 09-29-2016 08:47 AM

Thanks! I feel better already :)

My husband is English and he has young kids that he sees every other weekend so it made sense for me to move here. We live in a nice town and commute to London for work so we have the best of both worlds, city and country :)

Hey there again! Just thought I'd chime in with my "husband is English" also. However, we chose to live in the US ..... it was easier and more practical for our situation. I was in London again this past June and will be going back for a wedding (but not in London) next summer.

Cheers

Nice! Did you meet in the UK or in the US? I miss my family, but do love it here :) I tend to go back every few months or so and my family will be out her in November to visit.

My maternal grandfather was born in England and came here as a young boy. "I've never been to England, but I really like the Beatles." Who else is old enough to remember that song? LOL
