PQ I have done 16:8. I lived that way for years in my younger days, before I knew it actually had a name. I like it, and it helped keep the weight off very well. I have a problem with it now, though. I start out with good intentions with 2 meals a day (brunch and dinner) but have a hard time not eating after dinner. I believe it is the way we were meant to eat. Nothing in your stomach while you're sleeping. Sleep is for resting and repairing, not for digesting food. JMO I can't do 5:2. I can do the 5, but not the 2. LOL Some are now doing OMAD (one meal a day, 23 hr fasting) and even longer. Not for me. I like to eat something every day.

Eating protein early and carbs only at dinner sounds like CAD/CALP, the carbohydrate addict's diet. Not much about this available as not too many seem to follow it, but there are some who do great on it.

Ask about anything. I've tried them all. I just love food too much to stick with anything for very long.

Thanks for the welcome. I promise not to proselytize to my way of eating. I know from personal experience that everyone has to find the way that works for them!

Didn't do that well yesterday. Stayed low carb, but not a veggie to be seen, and way under calories. Planning a big salad for lunch today to get me back in the groove.

Morning all!

I've maintained my weight for three days now, which is good for me on the weekend. We did Mexican Friday night and I made Philly cheesesteak wraps last night. I kept my calories and starch low with the food, but I had alcohol both nights which upped my calories to maintenance. I canned corn salsa and made a giant mess of corn salsa yesterday (sent some home w/DD though). I have three dozen ears of corn to process and freeze today (my farmer friend gave me a leftover load as they wont sell day old corn to the public). One week before I go back to work for the school year :( :( .

I hope everyone is doing well....Rennie, Jacqui, Carol Sue.....

Break - bacon
Lunch - 1/2 peanut butter sandwich
Snack - tastings of corn salsa to get it just right
Dinner - Philly cheesesteak wrap, corn salad, mama mango moscato

Wannabehealthy 08-14-2016 03:24 PM

PQ how do you process your corn for freezing? We rarely buy corn anymore because a dozen ears is too much for us. I could freeze it. Also, how do you make your corn salsa? I make corn and black bean salsa but I use canned corn. I like to get the mexican style or jalapeno style. I can only find that in Aldi's. Gives it a bit of bite. That's another thing DH won't eat. I usually mix a can of corn and a can of black beans together and separate it into 2 freezer bags. Then I use one bag at a time to make my salsa when I want it. It's hard working around DH's likes and dislikes, which are mostly dislikes.

School. That takes me back too many years to mention!!

How are you doing Monte Cristo? Getting your veggies in? I have also been doing poorly in that area and my body is feeling it. I need my veggies.

Still curious about your balloon surgery, Dennise. How's it going?

Where's Rosinante? Rennie? Is Jacqui every coming back? We need someone to mother-hen us! LOL

Hi everyone. Thankyou for missing me, Carol Sue

I really have been MIA ~ and succumbing to huge, horrendous carb binges. Whisper ~ I enjoyed every mouthful........ However, I feel really bloated; I feel downright fat; I've gained 20+lbs over the past few months, and it has to stop. Not only are my clothes getting tight again but it's affecting my mood. My sort-of-part-time-it's complicated partner came over yesterday, and I was downright grumpy to see him. Internally, tried to keep it positive on the outside. Didn't help that he greeted me with, "You're looking (pause) healthy" [haven't seen each other for about 3 carb-stuffin' weeks] which sounded to me like (You're looking fat). And I'm grumpy this morning because it used to be that, although it'd take a while to get to sleep when he was here, I then slept deeply; now that don't work, and I had to get up and sleep on the sofa [if I put on recorded episodes of Frasier, I fall asleep pretty instantly] but had under 5 hours sleep and ack and ugh and I wasn't going to write any of that, I'm drivelling.

Anyway, today started something called The Honey Diet. It begins with a carb-free day ~ well, if you call carbs the starchy things like bread/pasta/rice, there's a bit of fruit in it and some veg; and a teaspoon of honey in hot water in the morning and a Tbsp at night. Whatever it takes to get me going. I weigh 184.2lbs today: Ne Plus Ultra.

Good luck, everyone x :)

Morning all! Glad to see you back, Rosinante, but sorry to hear about the TEMPORARY relapse and the "junk" that came with it. You can put it behind you and start anew today :)

Carol Sue I boil my corn on the cob 3-5 min(when the color changes)n salted water, let cool, cut off cob, pour melted butter over, stir well, pack 2+ cups per freezer bag. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

For my fresh corn salsa, I prepare the corn as above then add chopped tomatoes with juice, cilantro, cumin, onion, garlic, salsa pepper, jalapeno pepper, lemon juice, salt, and a pinch of sugar. I go heavy on the corn so it's more of a corn salad and no chips are needed. I only make it when my friend has leftover corn from her stand....if I or her kids don't take it, the pigs get it! I think I'm going to mix in some black beans today for lunch so I get some protein. I love the stuff :)

For my canned corn salsa, I follow a recipe. It has vinegar in it and less corn.

Down 0.2 lb...getting back on track after the weekend needs sticking to 14:10 IF.....for now.

Break - 1/2 Philly cheesesteak wrap
Lunch - Red's bean/cheese burrito
Snack - corn salad
Dinner - chicken w/lemon mushroom wine sauce over angel hair pasta, mama mango moscato

I've not been doing so great. Getting a few more veggies in (the only ones I really eat are green bean and tomatoes), but I've been really discouraged because I didn't lose any weight all week, actually went up 1/2lb. Even with my calories around 1200 or less per day. So I kind of had a little binge yesterday. I won't describe what I ate, in case it is a trigger for anyone, but suffice it to say it was not atkins approved, and my calories were immense. :( Ended up with a stomach ache all night, so I've been drinking tons and tons of water to try and flush it out of my system. Back on the wagon today.

Wannabehealthy 08-15-2016 12:55 PM

PQ, for my corn/black bean salsa, I mix the corn and black beans with chopped red onion, (or any onion I have), the mix in some vinegar, olive oil, cumin, cilantro, parsley salt and pepper. It's really good with Scoops chips, but I try to eat it without them, just with a spoon. I use more beans than corn usually.

Monte and Roninante, it's not fun when I slip up turns into a carb fest. It's very easily done. But we have to get right back on the horse. Never give up. Leave the past behind and move on.

I can tell that my carb count has been up because my blood sugar has been up.

Evening all!

Another 0.2 lb loss this morning.... 0.6 away from my pb. Tomorrow though may be another story....I ate out 2x today, but. Planned for it. I skipped breakfast and brought part of lunch home for tomorrow's lunch or breakkie. My calories added up to Under maintenance, so we'll see (I had fried at lunch).

Break - skipped
Lunch - 1/2 chicken BLT wrap, full order of delicious crispy onion rings
Dinner - grilled wings, strawberry beer

Rosinante 08-17-2016 03:48 AM

Galloping around on my horse this morning! (Metaphorically). Stuck to The Honey Diet for 2 days now, and lost 5.2lbs. I know it's water not fat but I'll settle for losing the hideous bloat I was carrying.
Not entirely convinced by the sleep-inducing claims for the diet, as I was bang awake at 05:30 this morning but trying not to let that worry me (although sleep/insomnia is a big mental issue for me, one I keep working at getting over....).

Went on a lovely "Health Walk" yesterday, with a map I'd downloaded from our Local Authority. Was really nice to walk somewhere different, and it took me through a Beautiful golf course. Wonder if I'd like golf? ;)

Good luck and hugs, all x

MonteCristo 08-17-2016 10:25 AM

Starting induction fresh again today. This time I'm going to actually just do it for 14 days, and then move on with the rest of the ladder, instead of my usual method of just sticking to induction until I just give up and chuck the whole diet. Maybe the way it was scientifically designed to be will work better? ;)

Had a fried egg on a piece of fried bologna for breakfast, and I've packed a can of green beans for lunch. Making some chicken chili for dinner tonight. I can do this! :cheer2:

PrairieQueen 08-17-2016 07:23 PM

Break - 1/2 chicken BLT wrap
Lunch - popcorn, tomato
Dinner - crispy pork soft tacos w/sour cream and corn salsa

PrairieQueen 08-18-2016 07:12 PM

Evening all!

Aunt Flo did arrive... A few days early, but it explains the weight uppage the past two days. Nothing too exciting happening here.

Break - skipped
Lunch - Penn Station 6" Philly cheesesteak
Dinner - chicken thighs w/ Cajun cream sauce (orange bell peppers, onions, broccoli) over quinoa rice blend

Rosinante 08-19-2016 03:44 AM

Beginning to be unsure about this "honey at bedtime" theory. it's supposed to promote sleep but my sleep this week has been the worst it's been for a long time:
Sunday night - couldn't get to sleep until I'd resorted to my Frasier method - decamping to the sofa and watching pre-recorded episodes (2) until I drop off.
Monday night - good
Tuesday night - dropped off ok, woke at 05:30 and couldn't get back off
Wednesday night - ok
Last night - tried to drop off for 45 minutes, gave up and tried the Frasier method with supreme confidence. 7 episodes! I eventually fell asleep after 03:30, and awoke at 07:45. Ugh.

I don't know whether to persist with bedtime honey or not. Given that the previous couple of months I could eat vast amounts of carbs without missing a snooze, I can't see how it could be harming my sleep. Hm.

Carb free

Hi, I have only just joined today. I am doing a carb free diet, I lived like it for 2 years about 8 years ago but slowly the white carbs crept back into my diet and so did my weight.

I have not been this determined since I last did it 8 years ago and I am determined to get to my goal again and keep it off. I have a long way to go but it is great to read all of you posts and keep positive.
