Wow dtretv, great results!! And your Taco Bell modification sounds delish! I'm trying to go without flour products, but when I get closer to goal I think I'll do that same thing on days I don't have time to cook. Good thinking!! :broc:

Gary I think I got that 50-100 carb count to lose weight from an excerpt in an article on the internet, pulled from that Primal Blueprint book. I love beans, so I now realize that I need to tweak my slow carb diet and watch the amount of beans I eat because I could easily overdue it. By the way Gary looks like you lost around 5 pds this week thus far too. Great job!! :cp:

Thanks Jacqui. I needed that pep talk. I do feel like today I'm have a whoosh loss in water weight as I'm visiting the ladies room every 1/2 hour. When I start to see results maybe I'll chill out on the carb and calorie counting like you....especially since you are getting such good results!

Another pound Rennie!! Congrats! Wow if we add up everyone's loss it'd be a pretty dang high number. I better drop some pounds so I don't feel left out. :dancer: I just know it's going to be a good week though for me. Finally really able to focus on this consecutively with no interruptions and social obligations. Have learned the ropes and ready to go! Got loads of veggies too, along with hummus, guacamole and bell peppers for snack time. It really is a great lifestyle change too I think.

B - Protein shake
L - Lentil salad, green salad with red bell peppers, chicken breast, little shredded carrot, olive oil & vinegar
S - Bell pepper with bit of hummus and guacamole

Ok, I'm determined to have the good results the rest of y'all are having! :carrot:

Thanks Missy :) … glad your slap in the face is gonna help you focus :) My slap didn't do anything but I knew that I had a fall back plan so that was the reason I kept eating (I know not a good excuse since I should have been at this weight weeks ago) Whew, 5lbs by Thursday … YOU GO GIRL :cheer: Missy me too on the flour things, I think this is the hardest thing to do, I love bread  but it is the only way for me not to screw up ;) LOL don't you hate all of the bathroom runs ;) but oh so worth it :)

Jacqui you are making it difficult for me here (to catch you ;)) … but YAY YOU :woohoo: I am so envious :) I so want to see the 160's. The whoosh fairy is definitely here :) LOL re: my son and now his so called muscular legs, smh … I just told him that his sweats are looking tight he said, "yeah cause my legs are getting bigger" that's boy is all about self :D With regards to your comment to Missy, I think the key to a good cheat day is to plan it and you know what you're eating ahead of time so that you don't get full. Also knowing when to stop eating which it has taken me years to learn. Jacqui, I wish we had met before this year, I'd probably be in maintainence :). Love your positivity :)

Gary that's at the end of my signature :) I got it off a diabetic website, so there must be some truth to it (I guess) :) Nice weigh in :high: You're on a roll :cheer:

dt, that's great :yay: You are doing really well right off the back :high: dt, you have these restaurants in the bag, WAY TO GO :cheer:

Joe where are you? :)

My son made me a fried egg with spray oil, it wasn't as tasty as the first one he made me yesterday. It needs a little cheese on it :)

B ~ shake, tea
L ~ n/s grapefruit, HM vegetable soup no corn or potatoes, salad greens w/spinach and I did use Caesar dressing
S ~ green grapes, pistachios
D ~ fried egg, pb

doubled my calories for yesterday so I'm feeling good :)

I am on my eighth spoon of peanut butter, heeeeeeelllllppppppp!!!!

Jacqui_D 01-06-2014 08:02 PM

Dtretv, okay, put down the spoon and the jar. No more tonight! Go drink some water with lemon, tea, diet soda, or just go brush your teeth and gargle with mouthwash. Do something to get that taste out of your mouth. That's enough peanut butter!

dtretv100 01-06-2014 08:03 PM

Lol I am at work and it right next to me! And I am not even hungry!

Thank you! I think im still going to lose weight though lol.

Jacqui_D 01-06-2014 08:36 PM

Dtretv, don't make me get my teacher voice out (yep, high school English), lol! No more peanut butter now, you hear? :nono: Well, now we know what one of your "domino" foods is! Nuts are a domino food for me so I know how hard it can be to stop when you know you should, but if it continues to give you trouble, you are going to have to figure out a way to have it without having easy access to more of it, or you're going to have to give it up. We can't allow domino foods to ruin our good efforts! I turn to nuts way too much as snacks I know (and even made a meal out of them today, so I do know how it is) but I've had to make sure I never eat out of a can or bag and never bring the can or bag into the room with the computer or tv! That would for sure lead to mindless eating for me. And when I find I'm eating too many nuts, I ban myself from them for a while, which I think I will do now for a week since I went past a handful of them today. So think about how you can make sure you limit yourself to the allowance you have given yourself on peanut butter. :chin: It's just a little slip (right now). You can do this! :carrot: And yes, a night's sleep does make a big difference in weight loss! That's when we lose most our weight! So your morning weight is real! :congrat: Btw, great job with creating your own low-carb taco out of high carb Taco Bell! :cp:

Gary, thanks! I appreciate your encouraging words! Congrats on your continued downward climb!

Missy, you're welcome! I hope with all that running to the ladies' room that the scale cooperates for you tomorrow! :crossed:

Aw thanks for the kind words, Rennie! And hey, don't bet you won't jump ahead of me! You are on a roll! You're doing so great and you're going to see the 160's very soon! You watch! Your son's optimism is SO cute!

It triggered me and I ended up eating two slices of pizza as well. Oh gosh, gotta go in "Don't give up mode!"

Jacqui_D 01-06-2014 09:08 PM

You're not going to give up! This is just a little setback and requires some willpower. I'm not at all surprised that it triggered you. Peanut Butter is not carb-less. One spoonful is okay. Eight, not so much. But here's the reality of this: When you are carb-sensitive, and clearly you are, when you eat quick-burning carbs, it raises your blood sugar, causing your pancreas not to just produce insulin but to overproduce it, flooding your body. That causes an overreaction and your blood sugar doesn't level out like it should. Instead it drops drastically again. Then you feel cravings again (even when you shouldn't be hungry) and to stave off the low blood sugar, you reach for more quick-burning carbs which will raise it quickly once more. It's a cycle, and it can wear out your insulin receptors and lead to diabetes. Correcting this through diet can strengthen your insulin receptors. That's why people with diabetes type 2 can get often it back under control through diet. Your peanut butter, which seems harmless, triggered this cycle, which is why you also had two slices of pizza. It's a physiological response. The only way you are going to stop it tonight is to stop eating quick-burning carbs. So put some willpower behind this. Think it out. You can do it, and it's important for your health! :carrot:

dtretv100 01-06-2014 09:16 PM

Very great information there thank you. I need some carbs, like beans and what not, because if I go to low on carbs I get headaches and no energy and can hardly function properly. So I guess beans are all I should have?

Jacqui_D 01-06-2014 09:37 PM

You can have slow-burning (low GI) carbs like beans and non-starchy veggies, just not quick-burning carbs. Peanut butter is slow-carb so you should be able to keep having it, but it seems to be a domino food for you, one that makes you want to keep eating, and a trigger food, which makes you want to eat other carbs and not necessarily slow carbs. Like you with nut butter, I have to be careful with nuts. I don't know what it is about them, but they're tricky!

Edited to add: Oh, you know, if you are having regular peanut butter and not natural peanut butter, regular PB does have added sugar, and sugar is quick-burning, so that could be complicating things.

love2b150 01-06-2014 10:13 PM

Thanks dt, LOL … BACK AWAY FROM THE PEANUT BUTTER MR. AND PUT THE SPOON DOWN … it's good fat but I don't know how much is too much. That is exactly why I only take the two tablespoons with me. :) Good luck my friend. I know how you feel  OK what Jacqui said and sending you :dust: dt, at least you're admitting what your eating some will hide it which leads to binge eating in secret, good job my friend. Oh I want pizza so bad  but nope … I know that's a horrible idea for me :nono: dt, have you ever heard of PB2? it's a powered peanut butter, that's not that bad, it's just really thick if you make it as directed.

Jacqui that is me with everything now. Even soups I prepare. I have to divide it immediately or I will over indulge and just like dt said, I'm not even hungry sometimes but will continue to eat. That's why I still count calories and carbs also, it helps me to stay in control when I can see the numbers (and maintain willpower :)) Humm maybe that's why it's easier for me to only eat two spoons other than separating it.

went to the gym with my son, only did 3.5 miles, I was tired. I should be in bed now but I had to respond to you all. :D I only burned 519 calories tonight but ok. It's better than nothing. Well gonna finish logging my stats and I will talk to you all tomorrow, Good night

Missy123 01-06-2014 11:47 PM

Dt if it makes you feel any better I remember Tim Ferriss mentioned in his book how peanut butter is a hard thing for people to eat in moderation. I think I'll avoid it altogether. Maybe once I make some progress I'll get some almond butter. A couple years ago I dated a bodybuilder type who introduced almond butter on bananas. It was like dessert to me. But, as a female who doesn't burn as many calories as a man...and especially one who lives in the gym, there was no way I was going to lose weight doing that. But after I lose the weight I want to continue to eat clean, and that is in that category. That being said I LOVE pizza. It'll prob be a part of most cheat days...so I'm feeling you. Tomorrow is another day. :D

I like our forum too! It's not too large, so it's more personal and intimate, and most of all super, super supportive.

Oh dtretv i forgot to mention that I'm doing the slow carb diet because like you I had headaches and super low energy on the low carb one. There are so many success stories with this diet when you google for them.

Jacqui you are a wealth of nutrition and health science knowledge. Ever consider it as a career? Or maybe a blog? :comp:

Ok I got through my day with some very healthy eating. I had a pretty decent workout with 1/2 hr of cardio and 1/2 hr weight training. I'm a little sore from the previous couple workouts, so didn't spend extra time there.

Saying a little prayer that I drop those two new pounds from cheat day, and can reach my Thursday weigh in goal....

Oh! Forgot....well done Rennie at the gym and your diet today. You ate so light that I'm sure you will see the 160's soon!!

love2b150 01-07-2014 06:33 AM

Thanks Missy, nice job yesterday :high: Hoping that water weight is gone and you will see great results on Thursday :crossed: I told my husband and son that I need to start doing some type of toning. My stomach looks a mess. I love that this thread is small also that's also why I love my weigh in and accountability chat thread, I'm the chatter box on there but we're a small group. I've been starting it since the beginning of last year and even though new people come in, most don't continue so it keeps small :) Hope that doesn't sound selfish, but I like doing personals and small makes it easy ;)

Down .8 to 172.6 this morning, eating egg salad and drinking my tea

Have a great day everyone, stay warm, it's only 9 degrees here this morning :brr:
