I take 6,000 mg per day of fish oil (6 pills) per recommendations of center. I also take 1 multi vitamin, 6 MR6 and 4 Enhancer. Pretty much a handful of pills before each meal.

Just to forewarn some of you, when I was taking 6 EFA a day (2 at each meal) my skin was certainly looking great, but I did notice...*ahem*...mucus in my stool. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! But it freaked me out until I realized that one of the benefits of EFAs is lubricating your colon. Just be prepared and don't freak out like I did.

Thanks for the forewarning AshleyRae! Dr. Oz says everyone should look at their poo and I would certainly freak out if I saw something that weird. LOL!

LMAO! I'm sorry, but even though it's gross, bodily functions make me laugh.

Although, I'm glad you mentioned it. I've been noticing the same thing since I upped my EFA right after Christmas, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out WHY. I just figured if it doesn't hurt and I don't have a fever, it's probably not a problem, lol. Good to finally figure out what the deal is.

I didn't know that we could buy it elsewhere. At my consult I was told that one of the requirements of the program was to take THEIR vitamins and fish oil..

My center made it really clear that I was not required to buy the vitamins/supplements from them. And since I had read several comments on this site before going to my consultation, I opted to buy the MR6, Enhancer and HNS.

Although I have found some consultants are pushier than others.

Hello! Well I had my food instruction class today and I did buy my HNS' and I did buy the fish oil from them. Next time I may go somewhere else for the EFA but the price for their fish oil really wasn't that bad and I figured right now when I'm just starting out I want to know that I'm getting what I need. Anyway, I'm also down 4 1/2 pounds this week!!!!! Wooooohoooooo!!!! I realize that its water weight but I'm gonna take it!!

I'm going to pre-condition through the weekend and then start the yellow menu for 4 days on Monday!

Kroger has a buy one, get one free sale on Sundown Naturals vitamins. If you use the digital coupons, there is an online coupon for $2.50 off any bottle. I got two bottles of fish oil capsules for $7 this morning!

I take a high quality Omega-3 by Life Extension, 700 mg EPA / 500 DHA (Super Omega-3) with sesame lignans and olive fruit extract). This is made from WILD FISH, absolutely NO MERCURY. I have been told that the amount suggested on bottle is like taking nothing. I have worked up to 12 capsules each day, 4 at each meal.

http://journal.crossfit.com/2009/08/...reArticleTitle

A reference to Dr. Barry Sears (Zone diet) -- he gave 15 fishoil/day to an obese man in Mexico.. who weighed over 1100 lbs.. He lost 400 lbs in first year (down to 700)...and his lipid chem is good. He also lost almost all his hunger. Dr Sears says with high dose fish oil, it is almost impossible to have a heart attack!

Life Extension fish oil is 60% concentration (EPA+DHA)...
so when Dr Sears says 10 Grams/day, this works actually works out to 17 LEF fish oil pills/day...

One of the observations I made was how great my skin looked. The "younger" factor was a really nice side affect.

Oh! If it's for skin, my recommendation would be flaxseed oil. I take fish oil for my general health, but a few years ago I was having the worst winter where my skin was so dry and itchy and the dry patches burned at the touch. I started using flaxseed oil instead of olive oil in my salad dressing (oil and balsamic vinegar). The dry skin went away completely. I only use 1 tbsp of oil in my salad dressing, so it doesn't take much.

I'm wondering in upping my EFAs contributed to my losing stalling out or if I just hit a plateau. Flax gives me terrible heartburn and I am doing ok with the fish oil. Anyone else hit a plateau when they upped their EFAs?

No, but I did hit a plateau between 10 and 15lbs. It's frustrating, but totally normal, and we all go through it. I would just concentrating on sticking with the plan rather than making any other adjustments, and see what happens in a week or so. Chances are, your body is just adjusting and the scale will start showing losses again soon.

I have stopped a plateau by cutting back on oil (flax). I need to be better about remembering to take mine. I use Spectrum flax oil that is in the dairy section of the grocery. It has absolutely no taste. I usually put it on my toast or salad. The center says two TBS. a day, which is a LOT as far as I'm concerned.

Higher doses of omega 3's foster weight loss, as I pointed out in an earlier reference by Dr. Barry Sears.

Studies have proven that high concentrations of fish oil can be used to dramatically reduce inflammation, resulting in weight loss, improved blood chemistry and better overall health. More clinical research has shown that fatty acids, even when used to supplement a very poor diet, can help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, MS, bipolar depression, ADHD, chronic pain and Alzheimer’s—all because fish oils reduce inflammation.
