  • Quote: Good morning ladies! I'm brand new to MRC and just started my preconditioning this past Sunday. I go back today for my weigh in and to get my menu and details on what I will be doing. I'm nervous about weighing in just because if I'm discouraged I don't want to turn to food like I have in the past. Everyone's stories on here are so uplifting and encouraging. It's nice knowing I'm not the only one on this journey. I hope everyone has a great day!
    Welcome!

Chances are, you've at least lost a little bit in preconditioning. If not, don't let yourself get discouraged at first! While it seems easier to gain weight than lose it, we certainly didn't get fat overnight--and we won't lose it overnight.

I was really skeptical of the program at first, and the costs really turned me off of it before I even enrolled. But then my sister joined last spring and actually got results--slow, but steady--even though NOTHING else has worked for us in the past (due to our PCOS conditions). So, after watching her lose pretty consistently for a couple months, I decided to give it a try--and am no longer a skeptic.

I usually lose 1-2 lbs a week, though some weeks I have stayed the same or even gained. If you chart your weight loss (which I do for fun on livestrong.com), it's not going to be a straight diagonal down. For some people, it starts working right away (big losses at first), for others, it takes time (I only lost 2-3lbs in my first 3-4 weeks).

You'll find lots of support and encouragement here. This board has really helped me in so many ways!
  • Hi Ladies!

Well, here it is. My first WI results. On day 3, I went to my WI and to get ready for my next set of menus and "to what did my wondering eyes did appear?" THREE POUNDS!!! I couldn't believe it! They have a dancing Santa next to the scale and he did a little dance for me. I got to fill out some tickets for a raffle to get a great basket of MRC goodies. I even got a ticket just for weighing in. It was such a great feeling to see the scale go down!

Now I am on Day 4 and getting ready for the blue menu tomorrow. I bought some creamies and some tomato and some chicken HNS. Now I have to figure out what I am going to eat for the next 5 days because I am just getting into the swing of the yellow menu. Oh well...off to the recipe thread I go!

Thanks so much ladies for your support!

Teacherlady, I have PCOS too. Has it affected your weightloss at all? Are there any certain supplements or vitamins that have seemed to help you particularly?

Well, it hasn't affected my weightloss on the MRC plan, as far as I can tell.

Every other time I've tried to lose weight, it's been nearly impossible--regular exercise and just "eating healthy food" doesn't cut it for me. Neither does simple calorie-counting. For me (probably because of my slight insulin resistance) low carb and lots of lean protein & veggies is what seems to be working.

I went to an endocrinologist a year or two ago, and she ran a full panel on me. I'm slightly insulin-resistant--but she said that could change with weight loss, so I didn't want to go on any meds for that. I also was deficient in vitamin D3 and low in vitamin A. So, I take a prenatal vitamin--because it's high in vit A, and I want to start having kids in another year or two anyway--and a D3 supplement.

I know there's other supplements and such that some women with PCOS recommend (I did some research online a while back) but I'm a little wary of taking a bunch of supplements that may/may not work and may have serious side effects.

The only time I was ever on any med just for the PCOS was when I was trying to get pregnant. Metformin was what they put me on. It really didn't do anything for me. I ended going to a fertility specialist for both of my kids. Wish you the best of luck when you start trying.
Thanks for the info. I think things are going ok, weightloss wise, so I will stick with what I am doing. Maybe if things slow down or come to a stop I will look into it a little more.
  • Hi
Hi everyone, I started MRC on Black Friday and as of yesterday am down 8 pounds. I have been reading many things on this forum and it looks like a great place to get support and assistance. I purchased the recipe book, but am looking for recipe's that don't involve the supplements, any suggestions? I know there are a few in the book, but most of them have the supplements.

    Thanks!
  • I just returned from my first weigh in and am already down 5 pounds after only 2.5 days of preconditioning. Thanks for the encouragement from everyone this morning! I'm supposed to start the beige menu Thursday and have cooking class Friday. So excited!

Congrats! And seeing results will only further your determination to stick with it!

I weighed in today, and after being super-careful all weekend, I'm down 3 lbs (I had gained 2 lbs the week before)! DEFINITELY going to be down 40+ lbs by my birthday (New Year's Day)!
  • I weighed in today and lost 1 1/2 pounds, making it a total of 17 pounds since Sept. 7th.. I am real happy with that.

My weigh in days are Tuesday and Friday and my center will be closed Friday Christmas Eve, so will go Thursday instead.

Congrats to all that lost .

    Y'all have a wonderful evening.

  • Teacherlady, so it's normal to see a weight gain? I gained 1lb from Thurs-this Mon and was so discouraged. Tottaly bummed, apparently I wasn't eating enough food (didn't have a scale) now I have one and that 6oz of meat is way bigger of a porition than I would eat even off diet.

Does eating exactly what the menu says really work? i'm struggling with the fact that THAT MUCH FOOD isn't going to just make me gain weight. I would never eat this much food at setting. just weird

I replied on your other thread as well. I've lost 70lbs working the menu exactly as written. Yes! it works. Check my other response regarding weight gain in first 2 weeks as well. The reason we trust MRC is because what we've always done before wasn't working!

I would say it's normal to see slight gains occasionally, but that it can be due to any number of things: increased exercise (more muscle mass), eating something salty (pork can do that, sometimes), mis-measuring (too much or too little) your food intake, etc.

One thing to keep in mind is that weight gain is not always about how much you're eating, but also about what foods you're eating. So in the past, even though you don't usually eat very much in one sitting, you may have gained your weight from poor food choices (high-fat, high-calorie foods, or lots of carbs). 6oz of chicken breast has less calories than 4oz of chocolate cake with frosting--but if you eat the chicken breast you can maintain or even lose your weight, as opposed to eating the cake and having it go "straight to your hips."

Even though it seems like this menu requires you to eat too much, you are actually eating healthy, low-cal foods that just happen to be bulky (which also adds fiber to your diet, but that's another whole explanation of how that helps). Unfortunately, not eating enough can cause you to plateau or even gain, as that puts your body into starvation mode, where it tries to hang on to whatever it has for the long haul.

hatesthesweatpants (Debi) is right--keep plugging along, eating your food and drinking your water, and it will get easier. If you absolutely cannot eat that much in one sitting after a few weeks, ask about their menu for hypoglycemics/bariatric surgery patients. My sister had a LapBand put in and had to eat less at each sitting, so they switched up her menu so that she's eating tiny portions, several times a day--and she's still losing, just a little slower than before.

Don't make any changes to the diet plan on your own--discuss it with your center first. Trust me, you aren't the first person they've seen with this struggle.

It does get easier, I promise! On the plus side--yay, a diet where you don't feel hungry all the time! lol
  • I am so excited!! I did my first WI today and I lost 4.5 pounds 7 days on the plan! I am so thrilled! This might actually work!!! I don't think I will get to WI again until after Christmas because of my work schedule. I have lost what I gained in November from the holidays. I now need to lose 10 more pounds to get rid of my horseback riding accident weight that I gained from September to November. I can't wait to get back to what my "normal" was. THEN I get to start working on a me that I have never seen before! I would love to see what I can do with the rest of this month! Thanks for the support on here for my first week. Such fantastic ideas!
  • I am so excited about my weigh in that I just have to tell someone!!
I lost 1.8 today (since Friday) and 19.5 inches (this month) making a total of 66.2 pounds and 73.25 inches overall!

Thanks to the message boards for all your great advice!
