Default Questions about stabilization "appointment"!!

Hello,

I just scheduled an appointment to talk about going into stabilization. Whew Whoo!
What I wanted to know is..Why do we schedule an appointment? What do you discuss? Is there a chance I might not be able to start? I'm 5 lbs away from goal weight and I still have until the 22nd of this month to lose more. What should I expect from my "appointment"?

I'm not there yet - but getting close also (within 4 weeks). Last time I WI we talked about being close to making goal in time and I was told as long as I was 6 lbs or less from my goal I would be able to start stabilization. With you already being 5 lbs from goal I see no reason why you won't be "able" to go into stabilization.

I am 6 lbs from goal and they don't want me to stabilize until I lose more body fat.. That is what they look at or so I was told.. I might be on the program forever!

Cheers!

I'll be checking back to see what you found out. I'm sure all centers do it differently but at our center we have a "stabilization party" once a month and they do in a group. Does your center do individually? I was within 5 pounds when they started me.

We do have stabilization parties, but they scheduled me a personal appointment to discuss things. I have no clue what it is that they want to discuss..

Ronnie..They told you you have to be in a certain body fat percentage before you can start? Do you know what percentage that is?

I just recently got to within 0.5 pounds of my original goal a few days before my 17 weeks were up. I already decided to change my goal to an additional 10 pounds before I go into stabilization. At the last WI, they re-weighed me on the Tanita scale, which was a surprise. Note-my center did an original weight in when I signed up, and never re-weighed me again until the 17 weeks was over.

According to my new body composition analyzer for my height (5' 5") and current weight, I am 0.7% above the desirable upper range for body fat %--According to the print-out, I need to be within 23-34% body fat. My original goal weight was 155 pounds and that was at the upper limit of the weight they wanted me at. I also did a BMI calculation at a site online, and found the same to be true.

Hope this helps.

I think they said like 29%? I am not sure, I will ask again when I check in next week and let you know.. I heard a couple gals talking today when I was in and they were saying the same thing.

At my appt they discussed increasing exercise, took another tanita, signed some paperwork, and discussed what to expect during stabalizatin. I did my pre-stabalization appt when I had 8 lbs to go and started stabalization with 4 lbs to go. Good job!

I went for my individual stabilization appointment today. They let me start stabilization even though my % of body fat is higher than they want. They want your BMI to be below 25, and the body fat % to be 30% or lower. The center said that if you body % is too high that it can be harder to keep your weight off. The % can change while you are doing the program, because as you loose fat you also may loose some muscle and so the % of fat to weight ratio may change. I discussed all of this with the center and told them that I did not want to get to the new suggested weight that the % of body fat on the scale was now recommending. They agreed. I am 3# away from my (self imposed) goal. and have met the BMI needed.
The stabilization appointment consisted of filling out some papers, answering some interview questions, getting an explanation of the week one stabilization menu and getting measured and of course WI. They also scheduled me for the stabilization party that the center has every month. I was told that my "after" picture would be taken at the party. I don't know how other centers do it, but that was my experience. All in all, very positive. I felt like they are still there and will continue to help me thru this process.

Interesting. I'm on week 3 of stabilization. When I started I had a BMI of 22.9 but a fat % of 34.1% and they were okay with that. Makes me even more mindful about not gaining weight back and hope that won't be the case. Centers seem to be different.

Well, I had my appointment today and I get to start stabilization Monday. That's when the stabilization party is anyway. I am so excited that I get a change but also scared for the same reasons as mentioned before.

Porchmom, How has your stabilization been going? Is it like you expected? Is it better or worse than imagined? I tend to think the grass is always greener on the other side, which has brought me a lot of disappointment in times past.
