Default Thirsty Thursday - August 7

When will I ever learn about ham and salt and thirst! Ham and cheese are NOT a good snack.

Anyhow, today is another brand new day and we can make choices. Yesterday was a horrorshow for me but I'll rant about it in my journal, not here!

I hope everybody checks in soon. It's so nice to see so many new folks posting! Low carb is THE way to go. I think I even have my Doctor convinced now and the nutritionist is wavering.

Have a great day and drink your water!

Good Morning! Today is my Friday, as I worked on Sunday and I am taking tomorrow off in lieu. Three day weekend - woohoo!

I am so tired today, I got to sleep at 2am and it's barely 6am and I am up again for the day. My daughter came back last night after having been with her dad for 8 days, I am so happy that she is back!

I orderded some Ketostix off of Ebay (100 for 4.49+s&h), I'm eager for them to arrive. I've been feeling great, except I cheated last night and had way too many carbs and this morning I have heartburn and I feel yucky.

Go Ruth! Convert the masses!

I was very fortunate to have a doctor who lost 150lbs on Atkins so he is an amazing resource and fully believes in it's virtues, he's also kept it off for 3 years I believe. Still have some work on the family though cause they are sure I'm going to have a heart attack soon but my blood pressure and cholesterol is the best it's ever been, and it was horrible considering I'm only 24

Today's gonna be a scorcher, 28 degrees and high humidity, I'm gonna need to run home and have a shower on my lunch break. Oh and the horror, I have to go on site to a few places today that do not have air conditioning.

Another day feeling great ahead. And thanks for the coffee Ruth

Good Morning Ruth and all our newbie friends

OK, yup, had rotten Ronnie's yesterday for supper in the car on the way back from my brother's place. My SIL is HUGE (big fat pregnant!!) since she's due September 10th. She says she's ready for it to be over with. Ah, the last month, how I remember that. I was sure if you stuck a needle in me I was going to burst! LOL And my nephew is of course totally adorable and just loves his cousin Miree. Both of them were playing up a storm!

So back tomy big cheat--yeah, slap on the hand but I PROMISE--today is going to be strict OP and move on--honest!!!

Have a great day of eating everyone

Goodmorning!

I have been having a bad couple of days...so I have not posted. Sorry.

I cheated yesterday. I am an emotional eater. So what did I eat? A corn tortilla! LOL . I have the low-carb tortillas but I wanted no I needed a corn tortilla. I was so upset at myself. And I skipped my morning work out Tuesday and Wednesday so I felt exceptionally bloated and just terrible. Well this morning..I am up, already worked out. And about to have a hb egg and sausage. I am starving. I have been drinking alot of water though. TONS, yesterday morning I went through 2 gallons. My daughter drank like 4 glasses, but other than that it was all me...and trust me I was peeing all day long, lol.

Well ladies I will post again later. Have a great day.

G'morning, ladies....

Well, I thought I had blown it at lunch Tuesday, as I ended up having no idea whether or not it was loaded with cornstarch. Once again, my worries were unfounded. I pulled out a stick this morning and--dark purple, again! So far, so good!

So, lunch out again today for another birthday at work. At least I got to see a menu from the place ahead of time, so I know they at least have a grilled chicken salad, even with an option to pay an extra 1.50 for extra chicken. Then again, I might just grab a steak and side salad...hmmm....

GOOD Morning Everyone!

I am down another pound today! Yesterday I was feeling so yucky, I guess I am still coming off the carb addiction. Not to mention I only had Decaf Coffee and one cup at that! But this morning I feel much better! Just a slight headache and with TOM due today that is normal anyway! I do have to say that since I started Atkins 4 days ago, I havent had Heartburn at all! WOO HOO! I used to stay awake at night praying for my tums or Precsription to kick in!

RobinH - I was hoping for your Salmon Patty Recipe you talked about a couple of days ago! My family LOVES Salmon!

OH I meant to ask, where do you get the Ketostix for what Dr. Atkins in his book calls "Inexpensive"? I went to my local Rite Aid and they were 50 for $14.95 USD. I dont call that inexpensive!

Brad - You are doing so well! I am very inspired with you going out to eat almost everyday! That is so great! I have my first challenge coming up on Sunday. My cousin is coming to town, and another cousin who lives locally is having us all out for a BBQ. I did tell him that I am low carbing it due to health reasons but it should be interesting.. We are Italian!

Ruth - Does your journal help? I have one but I just havent seemed to want to post to it. Do you know if there is a way to make the posts private? There are those days you know...

Tonight I am teaching again. I am a Crochet Instructor and teach beginning and intermediate crochet at a local Craft store. I havent taught in about 4 weeks so I am anxious to get back to it! The best part of teaching is that I dont allow any food in the class room! Although I do have my water!

I am drinking about 96 oz of water daily. Is that too much?

Good Morning Ladies and Gents!

Well been a good atkins girl since my faux paus on Sat. Gonna do a ketosis stick today and see what is up if anything. Don't really care for peeing on a stick ewwww! I am feeling great, energy back to normal and cravings gone. Going away with hubby this weekend, been a year since we have had a whole nite alone!

Robin: I too would like the salmon pattie recipe! :-)

Our weather has cooled down a bit, thank the lord. I am no southern belle that is for sure. Give me fall weather anytime!

Happy OP day!

Julia, don't go away when you have a bad day, stay here and let people help you out of it! Is all you had was one tortilla! That's not so bad! Hey, there are some corn tortillas out there called La Tiara and they are net 3 or net 4 (can't remember) carbs. They are supposed to be a tad smaller than regulars, and maybe a bit thinner, but you can eat tacos and still be in line. A lady sells them on ebay. If you type in La Tiara you should find it. She is setting up her own online store, also.

Raelynn, I've had heartburn too. I don't know if it is something that I thought was ok and wasn't...or what the problem is, but I've had heartburn off and on all week. Most people talk about the heartburn going away, so I don't know what my problem is.

Brad, I love your sig about the large frame. Funny! I would say the steak is a safer bet. I've been burned before by a nice sweet taste to my chicken. I guess it is marinated in a sugar based sauce, or basted with something sweet before they grill it. I've never gone wrong on a steak though!

Karen, as far as I know your journal cannot be private. One thing you could do is sign up as another user name and post your journal that way. You can pour your heart out and NOBODY will know who you are.

Today I need to spend a lot of time working on the garage sale we'll have. I am going to Mom's and help her clean out stuff. They've been married 46 years and never had a sale. Whew!

Off to the treadmill. I finally lost a pound. Yayyy! Hopefully I can burn a little more today.

Karen - Thanks! Hey, as long your cousin can keep the BBQ sauce off some of the meat, you're just fine. You might avoid the sausages, unless he has the wrapper for you to see (quite a few of them have carb fillers). You might even look around for a Splenda-based BBQ sauce recipe...even make some up and take it with you!

Speaking of BBQ, I had just gone out and bought a (rather expensive) large bottle of sauce from a local BBQ restaurant a few weeks ago, and only opened it a week before I started induction. Sigh, so much for that. It's really a very, very good sauce...but 6g sugars per 2Tbsp

Ahh, Italian....The absolute #1 food I'm going to miss for a long time is lasagna. With my birthday coming up, my mother almost always makes up a large homemade batch of it. I'm going to try modifying my #2 food--a family recipe for a cheese soup (a thin soup, not thick). Usually, you pack in a lot of potato (even more to stretch it a bit). I'll have to try it with cauliflower instead.

I saw a recipe for lasagna using eggplant instead of pasta. Where the heck was that???? I'll try to dig it up for you, maybe after induction it would fit in your carb count.

Hope you're all having a wonderful day. My dd started first grade this morning, dad and I went with her so he could meet the teacher. She couldn't wait for us to leave! I felt a little insulted, not being needed. However, she did fine in kindergarten, why did I think this year would be different? I try to raise an independent child, then I whine because she's not needy enough. Truly a woman you can't please, that's me!

Going to eat something yummy for lunch today, just can't figure out what yet. Maybe a salad from McD's, hmmmm. Talk to you later!

Thanks.... I've found that the 'large frame' excuse comes up just far too often, but at least I feel like I have a little more right to use it. I'm large enough that getting to my ideal weight will only take off about 2-3 inches off the width of my hips, because they are wide as it is. So even losing weight won't completely solve the problems of fitting into theater seats comfortably. Even worse, I drag around two cell phones and a PDA for work, and even strategically placing all three on the same side doesn't help much! (The hips are just an example. Those online body frame calculators that use your height, wrist size, and sex are a joke!)

Grilled chicken salad vs steak: Yeah, I thought about that again. So far, I haven't had any problem with grilled chicken most places, but I probably will go for the steak instead today. I'm in the mood for it anyway, after having that particularly crummy piece of leather for lunch Monday. Hopefully I'll fare better here.

Oh I am right there with you on the large frame. I am the same way. I'll never be a size 9. Well, maybe as a skeleton. I have a large rib cage and nice child birthin' hips!

Hi all!

Well it has been a few days since I posted, but I am hanging in there. Weighed myself this mornng and still at 9 lbs, but even though I was at 17 carbs yesterday, I ate lunch and supper out, and I know my calories were closer to 1700-1800 and I have not exercised in two days because of my schedule.....but I am NOT discouraged!!! This has been a great plan for me. My boyfriend is on it too and it is working for him and he finds it easy too......this is the first time I have ever had the support of a loved one so it is actually kind of fun and challenging!!!!

Here is to all of us!!!!!

Good news! My Cousin is making BBQ Salmon (We do live in the Pacific Northwest!) and he is very good about helping me out with this! So I am having Salmon, Salad with Olive Oil and Herb Dressing, Steamed asperagus... so I am all set! WOO HOO. Of course, he has to have bread and oil out.. We are Italian you know.. but at least I have food I can eat!

I agree Brad with the Lasanga. It is one of my favorites too. I usually make it with my own sauce and 2 pounds of cheese. but it is so good! I'll have to play with my recipe a bit and see what I can come up with...
