Default The TGIF Cluck - Friday, June 20

Good morning all.

Wear your warm robes if you want to sit on the deck this morning for coffee. Brrrrrr! This time last year we were in a heat wave but today feels like April. Maybe we can sit at the kitchen table and enjoy the big bouquet of peonies.

Lurker Lorraine came over yesterday afternoon and we had a good chat about Atkins and gardens as we drank water! LL brought me some 3 carb muffins which are absolutely delicious. She is going to try to remember where she got the recipe.

I sat at the Fair Board meeting last night watching the clock! I am definitely not UP for two hour evening meetings - and this was a short one. The meeting was shorter because our main ditherer and dodger was not there. Somehow, I think I will not be at next year's June meeting. Anyhow, the Fair juggernaut has started to roll. Today I will distribute the pre-sale tickets to the outlets - Roadrunner Ruthie.

Definitely need more coffee and a warmer robe. Maybe I should get dressed? That would be a start to the day at least!

Have a good one.

Okay, I am out of the closet. I am Ruth's friend, who has been lurking on this site for 2 years. My husband and I run a greenhouse operation, and Ruth has been coming over & helping us ever since she retired.

. I was diagnosed with type !! diabetes last Oct and also my cholesterol was too high, so was sent to a diabetes clinic & dietician to help me lose weight. Managed to lose 12 lbs but the last 3 months stayed the same.
Started the Atkins on Monday and have lost 7 lbs. Really thrilled, but have cravings (i.e. an apple sounds wonderful). I went backto reading the book this morning to see how long before I can eat an apple again.

I never ate apples before.

Welcome, Lorraine. You finally did it! This just may change your whole way of eating. I'll be over with the camera when you eat that first apple.

cleaning ladies did a great job yesterday. thank goodness for them!!!

HUGS TO YOU, RUTHIE

Welcome Lorraine! Weve been hearing so much about you that it seems we already knew you G;ad to hear you lost so much on Atkins--that's wonderful! And aboutthe apple--you can have one in a couple of weeks--think you can handle it?

Good Morning Ruth, yep, chilly here too but the weather man says it's supposed to be smokin' hot this afternoon andthe rest of the weekend.

Hey Jiffy! How's the job transition thing going?

Well Miree had her last swimming lesson for the season yesterday afternoon and she didn't pass--again! Looks like we have a very busy summer ahead indeed--we are going to make sure she can do all of the things she's supposed to be doing! Swim lessons get started again in September and she will be swimming by then! (Personal vow and I know my little fish)

Housework and laundry on the menu today--anyone want a bite?

Have a good one!

Good Morning

Wow, LurkerLorraine actually exists Welcome to you Lorraine!!!

Welcome back Maxibee

Pooky, my daughter failed her swimming lessons 2x. Finally we took her out of swimming lessons for a year, and just spent alot of time at the pool playing around, and now she's not using waterwings, and is going underwater willingly. She starts her lessons back up in September too. Im sure M will get the hang of it.

I was up very late last night stressing and worrying about things I have no control over. You would think I would know better!! Had pizza and wings last night for supper, and 1/2 bottle of wine. None of it made me feel any better. I'll be missing from the boards next week. Lots of travelling, MIL is arriving for a 2 week visit, have to see the ex next week, and a huge family shingding next saturday. Im praying for a speedy 2 weeks!

Im off to the shower, and get my day started.

Robin

Morning Everyone!
Another absolutely gorgeous day here in IL. It is sunny and going to be in the 70's again--thanks to some cool air coming in from Ruth and Lorraine's part of the world. I didn't make it in yesterday--I just had one of those down in the doldrums, felt too tired to do anything kind of days. Even my DS commented on it--he's not used to seeing me just kind of lolling around here I guess.
The day before was a really run around kind of day. DS went with me down to my school about 50 miles from here and we helped out with the Summer Reading Program. Since I am a bit of a "drama queen" I was in charge of reading out loud to the groups, and my son was in charge of the game room. There is one boy in particular who really looks forward to my DSbeing there. He is autistic and one of the neatest kids I have ever had in my room. He is now 13, but just as neat as he has always been. Is mom is an absolute doll also. Anyway, this boy just LOVES to school my son at chess every time we come--and then always consoles him with "you'll be better next time"--DS just laughs cuz he knows that chances are he will NEVER be better at chess.
Then we went to a friend of mine who retired from teaching a couple of years ago for a visit--she is also doing Atkins (successfully) and she made grilled chicken salads. After that we had errands to run and when we got home DS had just enough time to change into his basketball clothes and we headed up to the highschool to help truck the team up to their basketball game. Took the LONG way around the cities and kind of came in the back door so that we avoided the construction. Had heard it was backed up across all of the bridges for miles. Tell me why do they do construction on every bridge at once???? Anyway, my son's team ended up beating the other team in OT by one point--very exciting--they are a school with a population about 4-5 times bigger than my son's school. Plus, neither of our coaches were there so the boys basically did it on their own.
We got home about 8:00 that night and my butt was really ready to find the couch. I had a Carb Solutions chocolate bar and a glass of wine for supper. Not a very good one, but it was a dry wine so maybe not too many carbs.
Today I am going to clean out a closet, go grocery shopping and then DS and I want to see "The Hulk". It came out today in the theaters.

Ruth--sorry it is cold there, but the Canadian air is refreshing us down here in IL. I think it was you who asked where I was in the U.S. We are in northern IL and to get to the big city it requires trying to get across the Mississippi when EVERY bridge is torn up.

Lorraine, Welcome and Congrats on that weight loss!!!

Jif, hope your cold is better soon, but in the mean time enjoy your rest.

Pooky, sorry that Miree didn't pass that swim test, but what better reason to hang out at the pool all summer.

Robin, I hear you on the pizza, wings and wine--I did that same thing last Friday--like turning to an old friend for comfort--unfortunately it didn't make me feel any better. I just had to start all over the next day. You can do it, good luck with the next two weeks.

Okay, better get going and get started on my stuff. Take care all.

Welcome Lorraine! I got a bit of a giggle when I saw your 3FC's name - Since Ruthie has been calling you that for ages now, what else COULD it be? lol

Jiff - LOVED hearing about your Frenchie. My advice? Have fun and plenty of it! You deserve it, sweetie!

Pooky - I think Miree loves her lessons so much that she just doesn't want to quit.

Robin - comfort foods are wonderful at times as long as they aren't overdone and you jump right back OP - not too much damage that way.

AdoAnnie - Congrats to your son on the win. Sounds like you deserved a lolling around day after one of those 'Ruthie Roadrunner' days. Let us know how The Hulk is - I'm boycotting it out of respect for Bill Bixby and big green Lou.

Off to shower then take DD to the eye doctor. We might have a girl's lunch out since Brad & the boys left early this a.m. to go fishing. Chinese chicken salad (hold the noodles) anyone???
