Unhappy Broken Scale Blues!!!

I am so bummed out! My elecrronic scale has been acting up, so decided to replace it with a brand new, super duper deluxe one (25% off on sale!).....so I opened it and "tested" it out...and
now - HOW WILL I EVER FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH WEIGHT I HAVE LOST???

It seems to be registering way higher than my old one (altho I have to check in the morning as that is when I weigh myself).

So I THINK I HAVE MORE WEIGHT TO LOSE THAN INITIALLY ANTICIPATED...which is supremely depressing

And I really want to know how much weight I have lost at the end of induction...and now I won't be able to as my starting weight is all screwed up...how do I do this?

I know I sound neurotic, but I like to be accurate, and this is really throwing me off and depressing me to no end (especially since I seem to be 10 LBS HEAVIER than I thought).

I am planning to try and weigh on both scales tomorrow am in order to figure out some sort of "calibration"...will get hubby to do the same so I can figure out the "difference" between the two scales....

I know, I know...scales are only one measure of weight loss.....

Hi, Froufy. May I suggest that you go to a drop in clinic or your doctor's office and weigh yourself on a real medical scale? Then go home immediately and calibrate your new scale to equal what their scale says you weigh.

I had a very similar thing happen to me yesterday. I had my yearly gyn appointment and their scale says I'm 7 lbs heavier than my scale. Problem is I didn't weigh myself before I started induction, I used what my post-pregnancy weight was at my gynecologist. So to see what their scale says compared to mine, I haven' t lost much weight (or I gained more between the birth of my kids and startting the diet which is possible but that much more depressing.)

Good Luck.

Default YA WELL...I'M FATTER NOW!!!

...like I don't have enuf weight to lose. Seems the new "efficient" scale (from ****) says I weigh 10 lbs more than the old loyal scale (that has gone on to cleaner bathrooms). So not only do I not know what I have lost...it seems I have more to lose.

I know I have lost some weight...so I have given myself the benefit of the doubt...added 3 lbs to the weight on the scale (it's a nice round number) and decided that was my starting weight (give or take a lb! ).

This means I actually have 70 lbs to lose....!!! how startling is that? I know...I won't obsess and will just make mini goals, but this is somewhat depressing

....and today was such a super busy hectic day my eating was totally screwed up...BUT I STAYED ON TRACK despite it all! (but did not eat enuf??? can you imagine that???

I will try and deal with my "scale" issue and try not to jump on it every 10 minutes...may ask hubby to make it disappear!

Same thing happened to me when I replace the battery in my digital scales. Very depressing. I personally haven't been on the scales in 2 weeks. Why bother if I'm off plan.

hi ladies ~ I hate scales.. I still step on them... but I've been on Atkins for 18 days now, and haven't shown a loss of more than the 5 pounds I lost in the first week... I even went up 3 and came down, etc.... can't blame it on TOM because I had a little op that took care of that a number of years ago.

However, I feel it... the difference.. I can bend a little easier (lost off tummy) and my pants are looser... I'm trying really hard not to get on scales more than once every 2 days, but it can be an addiction.

I'm treating this as a change in life.. which it should be anyway. I have no cravings for sweets (truly amazing)... I seldom think about food (even MORE amazing)... and you know what? As much as I'd like lots more weight to come off, I really like the way I'm feeling (emotionally). I've worked hard for years to come to terms with feeling at peace with myself.... OEAnon, WW, lots of self-help reading, counselling, you name it... I believe each of those things has had impact on me, but this way of eating is helping me consolidate it.

Hang in Froufy ~ the thing to remember here is that you are doing something about it. THAT is the biggest step.. not 5 pounds, not 10 pounds... the scale is only a number.. it cannot measure change nor measure mental health.

Hang in

Default YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

Thanks Judo Mom...you are absolutely right. I do feel better (at least psychologically) because I am doing something!

I spoke to dh about the scale thing, and we have agreed that I am scale obsessed...so I told him I would weigh myself Monday am (for inspiration I hope)....and then I want him to make the scale "disappear" until the next Monday (sure he says after we spend so much on it, now we hide it? )...and it's a pretty cool looking hi tech thing!

I hope that will help (so what if I get on next week and I weigh more than ever???)

Sorry that was just the obsessive part of me talking....

I too am scale obsessed and know it's hard to put the darn thing away. My problem is that my weight fluctuates and may be at a high point on weigh-in day! What I usually do is weigh first thing in the a.m. and average the weight for the week. That gives a better idea of where I'm going.

(I did put the scale away for the month of February, snuck on it one day midmonth and found I'd lost. The end of the month I weighed again and had gained. Hmmmmm. I guess I relaxed. )
