Default Ketosis On Day1...??

Is there any way I can already be in "ketosis' on evening of day 1 of Atkins??? Is this possible....has anyone else had this experience??

On my last/latest washroom visit...I saw my fresh can of ketostix...and thought about wasting one...just for fun...so I "tested"...and got the "medium" color (moderate/40/4) of purple?? Does this mean I am in ketosis already? or do you have to have the darker purple color?

Any info greatly appreciated!

Sure, especially if you have been eating high fat food! Any change in the colour of the sticks means you are in ketosis. Medium is just fine. Darker purple can just mean you have not been drinking enough water or have been eating a lot of fat.

And where are you way up here in Canada? I'm in Eastern Ontario.

Angry THANKS FOR THE INFO!!

I guess we are almost neighbours??? I am in Ottawa...how far is Delta?

Did not use a "stick" this am...may try again tonight...but it is almost anti-climactic....I thought there would be this big drum roll and a bolt of lightning would hit the earth...and lo and behold the ketostick would turn purple...

I guess I can use it periodically to "check" how I'm doing!

Delta is about 90 minutes from Ottawa. It's in the middle of the Smiths Falls - Brockville - Kingston triangle.
Don't get too hung up on the keto-stix. They can give you different readings depending on the amount of fat and the amount of water in your diet.

Wink Thanks for the info Sean....

...although I am not usually "normal"...ha ha ha

Doing better today..at least no headache (altered coffee to 1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular to avoid pain....will change proportions accordingly throughout the week).

I am usually hungriest right after lunch? is that weird? Okay in am...eat lunch...then I still feel hungry? want to munch.....I am trying to have green tea in order to curb munchy cravings!

I am excited for dinner (bacon cheeseburger without the bun!).

Hope I last that long!

Frouf

PS Also had a diet crush cream soda - just realized I had some in my fridge and it is made with Splenda and not aspartame (one of the few I think!)

Default PINK IS MY FAVORITE COLOR...

...and how appropriate that my ketostick was a dark pink again tonight...will wonders never cease???

Ruth - the Diet Crush Cream soda (and the Orange Crush too I believe ) are both made with Splenda...says so right on the can! And here I thought I could never have diet soda again!

You can find it as most major grocery stores (got a case on sale somewhere???can't remember)....like Loeb or Loblaw's or even some of the bigger drug store chains....let me know if you can't find it and I will do more research.

I am a bit hungry tonite...and again had MAJOR MUNCHIES in the afternoon...but held off with green tea and two cheese strings things......as soon as I eat lunch it's like a sign to eat, eat, eat...very weird (also PMS so I hope this explains it?)

No headache today...but those very frequent bathroom trips at night are very annoying!

hey Nausus! yesterday I got tic tacs for the dragon breath! It brings a bit of freshness to your mouth. It said less than .4 carbs though, not sure if that is a lot or not!

Wink DOING BETTER TODAY....

...the difference is I had breakfast at home which I only do on weekends as I am crazy/busy trying to get to work. Normally I eat some cheese slices at work....then come lunchtime..I just want to continue eating.

Today I had BACON & EGGS FOR BREAKFAST!!! Just had coffee when I got to work...felt much better today...just had lunch and we will see what happens. I am very busy at work tho and have a meeting from 1:30 to 3pm...so no munching for me (just bringing mineral water with me).

Will I know when I get the dreaded dragon breath? Or do I wait until people pass out when I talk to them? So what is the preferred/low carb breath mint?

Also is everyone taking supplements? If so what?

Time to get back to work (did not finish my salad...too excited with stuff at work...did finish all my egg salad tho!).

Frouf

P.S. Yesterday's lunch was six slices of cold cuts and salad (romaine with two cherry tomatoes, one green pepper slice, some cuke slices and ranch dressing)....made me hungrier..same on Monday (greek salad, feta cheese, olive, onion, pepper and two hard boiled eggs!!).

Honey when the dragon breath hits you will know it!!! I have not had people tell me my breath smelled bad even though I have appologised plenty and nobody would admit it. drink plenty of water that helps with the dragon breath, the more you dilute the ketones the better. I keep tictacs in the pocket all the time although there is plenty of other low carb mints like the fresh ones in the tin that looks like skoal. it hs 2 openings one for you and one for friends. it comes n several flavors and they are plenty strong so they should do nicely when the dragon hits. but I know I am in ketosis when it hits. (I do not use strips and I have my hands in enough human waste I do not need to stick it in mine!! )

I am guessing thae fact you did not eat enough in the morning that when your body started to get food it was having a fit you stopped. so see what today brings. let me bet you will not get tired during the meeting!!!

as for supps some of the most important ones is

Potassium bought in the local store 99 mg each you should take 2 - 4 (spilt over atleast 2 doses) this will preven the tired leg syndrome, your legs just do not want to follow you but you want to go go go, and then they start to jump at night. it is because of the water loss (drining ect) that you lose potasium as well

calcium/magnesium/zinc I buy this in a combo vit and the dose is 3 daily I usually slam them all down at the same time. the calcium is also for weight loss muscle function nerve function as well as the magnesium. (mag will help prevent any constipation you may have) many die hard low carbers will take these seperate as it is better to take chelated magnesium it is better absorbed. but I take it regular.

A good multi vit.
I also will occasionally add a b complex to my day it helps to increase the metabolism in the cells.
chromium is a usual addition it helps burn the fat.

there are more that many people take but the milti vit is the most important and potassium is essential.

Default Me again....

Yes, I did feel better today.....can we assume it was the "at home" breakfast extravaganza?

Had a light supper tho, as I was feeling depressed due to mounds of housework to be done! (sigh ) I knew I should eat tho and not fall into the trap of not eating and getting hungry ater and grabbing any old (carb laden) thing. Still my percentages are pretty off again: about 1800 calories, 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbs (about 22 carbs today). Need to lower fat and raise protein...any ideas?

Just checked my multi vitamin, and it has only 5 mg of potassium, so I guess I should supplement? It has calcium and magnesium, but due to low milk consumption not a bad idea to add that as well.

I am already adding chromium and Q10 to the daily vitamin, and have to start taking the EFAs......maybe once a day?? (both those things look big and ugly!).....

Will try and do breakfast again at home tomorrow (but I just love sleeping in...)...

And no dragon breath yet!!!!
