Default Does Low Carb-ing affect your cycle?

I was wondering if anyone has experienced a change (for better or worse) in their menstrual cycle due to low carbing. After low carbing for a month my cycle was right on time and I did not experience breast pain. However, it was a bit heavy. Then I started consuming more carbs in the last month and the breast pain is back and my period is 4-5 days late and still no sign. I see posts about people with PCOS low carbing and that supposedly it helps. Can anyone tell me more???

Well, I'm one of those PCOSers, but it does help me. Last year I had problems with a cycle that would never end. Doc gave me a d&c and every kind of hormone pill you could imagine. All of a sudden, I started induction. From that point on, it leveled out. Came and WENT AWAY when it was supposed to, yay!!

The insulin spikes have something major to do with hormones, which I cannot describe to you in a way that would make sense. However, these smart chicks around here are sure to help you out!

Tilly,
I've never been diagnosed with PCOS, but I've always had really painful back aches and cramps with my cycles, usually starting a week prior to starting. I've been on atkins since 8/2/02 and now the darn TOM sneaks up on me without warning. Not that I mind painless TOMs, but now I have to keep track of the days or oops! LOL I've also noticed that my skin looks great all month long, instead of the PMS breakouts I used to get. CNN had a story on this last week, about the effect of carbs on acne. Let me know if anyone wants to see a copy of the story, I'll try to find it.

Here's the information I found from the CNN ticker....

THOSE GREASY FRIES ARE NOT CAUSING YOUR FACE TO BREAK OUT.
RESEARCHERS AT COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY SAY.. EATING TOO MUCH "REFINED" BREAD AND CEREAL.. IS WHAT CAUSES TEENAGE ACNE.
THE SCIENTISTS SAY.. "REFINED CARBOHYDRATES" TRIGGER A SERIES OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS IN THE BODY.. WHICH INCREASE THE PRODUCTION OF BACTERIA THAT CAUSE ACNE.
THEY PLAN TO TEST THEIR THEORY.. BY PUTTING A GROUP OF TEENAGE BOYS ON A LOW- CARB DIET.. FOR THREE MONTHS.. TO SEE IF THEIR ZITS DISAPPEAR.

Interesting....

I do well on low carbing. When I went off last year, my PMS came back full force after a couple of months. I gained anywhere from 3 to 10 lbs during the prelim week (s) Now, I don't have ANY weight gain (documented across 3 months now), and I just have craves the day before. That's the only reason I remember I'm about to have my period. Very cool!
