Chick Chat - Monday, December 16

  • Snowy morning here in eastern Ontario. We have about 3" of gorgeous white stuff and are heading for that winter wonderland look. Lucy loves it and comes in covered with snowballs which she then eats instead of breakfast. She is still on a bit of a hunger strike - wants a diet of biscuits and peanut butter in her Kong!

I got lots of tidying and some wrapping done yesterday so don't feel I've been wasting my time. I think this operation stuff dragged me down more than I knew because I've had too darn many "nothing" days lately - with naps! I sort of run out of steam before the engine gets going. I have not been religiously taking my vitamin supplements which may be part of the problem.

Gail comes this morning to do the pre-Christmas cleaning. This afternoon friends Claire and Doug are coming to assemble (and maybe decorate) our Christmas tree. They will stay for dinner - a complete oven meal that I have ready to pop into the stove. I love it! I was going to give them Shepherd's Pie but the "fridge mice" snacked on the leftover beef so there was just enough for a two person meal. So tonight - marinated pork chops, baked potatoes, green beans with red and yellow peppers, apple/cranberry crisp with ice cream. I'll end up eating just items one and three because my darn blood sugar is still running high. Anyhow this will officially start the holiday celebrations. I may even break out my new Christmas placemats.

We had an 18-wheeler wandering the village last week. The guy was from Mississippi and was on his way to Delta - only it was Delta, British Columbia. He was just off by 3000 miles. Poor lad! I ran the trip through Expedia - he'd have to drive non-stop for about 4 days, providing he could get through the Rockies and not pee or eat or sleep. There's lots of giggling about this at the Get A Life Cafe here in town.

Gotta boot the body and get cracking. I may do some baking this morning unless Gail wants to start in the kitchen first.

    Happy Monday!
  • Good Morning Ruth and all those to come!

Ruth, glad to see you aren't being so stubborn and getting some help to do things We don't want to see you in the hospital, I think we have enough chickies in the sick ward these days!

Sue, kids are a pain the in the you know what sometimes. But it makes it all worth it when they toss you a huge hug and a smile and tell you they love you.

Linda, sorry I left you with the impression that dh didn't do a blasted thing while Iwas gone--not true, he did do the dishes and did do some general cleaning--unfortunately, he would keep forgetting to bathe and dress Miree! I look the other way on that, so she spent a weekend dirty, no big deal, she had a lovely scrubbed down head to toe bath last night and snuggled up in nice warm jammies and had a story with mum. All is right with the world...

Robin, your shop sounds so lovely, I sure would like to come see it someday. When are you coming up here? Wanna stop in Bracebridge and have some coffee?

Sherrie, are you feeling better? How is Tommie?

Deb, how was St. Lucia?? Dish girl!!!

Well, today is all about housework and preparation. The regular disaster, not extra stuff (Linda ) Laundry, kitchen, living room and it's dang blasted cold so the woodstove has to get good and pumped today. Little things left for Christmas left to be done and some Christmas cards to go out (local so they won't have to go far) and well, this week is beyond busy. Tomorrow is the drop-in center's Christmas Party and I have to get a cheese ball and crackers ready for it. So I may not get in here till later in the day. Other than that, but one step on the week of crazy--the week before Christmas I swear is the busiest of all!

    Have a good one everyone!
  • Good Monday Morning,

Spent the weekend cleaning and decorating. The house is just about ready for my dinner party on Tuesday. I am making dinner for my work group. They are a great bunch of people, but since we have been bought out by another company, we expect that we will all be headed in different directions next year. Sometimes I hate big business, the way they toil with peoples lives.

Ruth, love hearing those puppy updates. Wish we were getting snow here, we are loosing ours, it has been high 30s low 40s here lately.

    have a nice lc day!
  • A Sunny Snow Covered Morning
    Morning Ladies

Ever notice when your not feeling good, your hair looks like you feel? I must be feeling better, its a good hair day!! lol I am feeling better finally!

Im packing and getting ready for my trip, I'll be heading out to mom & dad's tonight. Dad pretty much insisted on taking me to the airport, and picking us up. Which was nice, I'll get a chance to chat with him a bit, just us. Mom doesnt usually give him very much if any phone time when I call.

Pooky, did you tell me once that you lived in thunderbay? Id love to stop for coffee sometime, how far off the 400 barrie/orillia turn off are you? We travel up north to Thunderbay about 5x a year. We turn off heading to sudbury though instead of going thru northbay. If your not too far, it would be a nice stop to come and see you! I checked mapquest, and bracebridge is a little under 4 hrs from here.

Ruth, I didnt know you were so close to Kingston! I think thats my favourite town!! Its just so pretty. Ive been wanting to take hubby to see it, and to a little restaurant there called "The Pilot House" another favourite I'll give you a shout when we travel that way.

Ive posted a thread in general chatter, but Im going to mention it here too........if anyone knows where I can get an adult size moose costume pattern, please let me know. We need a mascot for the store, and hopefully by march it will be ready, and we can launch some sort of moose naming contest. But I need to find the pattern first!! Ive looked everywhere, all the stores possible, online for hours, but no luck. Lots of places will make it for me, but I can do it myself for a TINY fraction of what they want to charge me.

Thats about it for me, talk to you all in a few days
    Robin
  • Morning all

Back from our little holiday, lots to do around the house, so I will have to catch up later........

Robin- I know I told you I used to live in T.Bay!
  • Snow? That's the white fluffy cold stuff right? It's a sunny 68 degrees here on the Gulf on Mexico. Makes it hard to get in the Chirstmas spirit. Last night DH and I turned on the a/c and the Christmas Tree lights, and had a fire in the fireplace. And we both fell asleep of course.

I'm on more anitbiotics and and inhaler. I can't remember if I checked in on Saturday to give an update. I didn't eat as on plan as I wanted this weekend, but I'm on track for today. So far I've turned down Krispy Kreme doughnuts, chocolate covered pretzels, glazed pecans, cookies, and assorted candies. Darn it, why can't anyone else in this office diet? I'm going to hid in my offic cubicle until this feeding fenzy called December is over.

Robin - I just got caught up on my weekend post reading, - WTG on the 9lb loss!!
  • Just a fast hi to you all, I cleaned house, wrapped the last of the gifts and have the sink in soak? The wash is in the dryer, supper is in the thinking, floors are clean, I love the flylady.

It is very cold today, I have the wood stove open wide and am going to bake supper so the kitchen warms up.
    Well all for now,Tazcat
  • First I have to apologize to Pooky and any others who might have been offended by my rant against husbands in the weekend post. I certainly didn't mean to single anyone out and I'm sure most modern hubbies do a lot more with home and childcare than mine ever did. I can remember coming home after a day at work (before we even had kids) and he'd be sitting at the table tapping his fork and knife waiting for ME to start dinner. GAAAAH! He'd watch tv all evening while I did the ironing (and in those days I even ironed his underwear and sox...how downtrodden and DUMB is that?) He never changed a single diaper and I think he might have babysat once or twice when I had an outing with girlfriends and that's about it. Certainly no shining example of shared workload. Mind you, I wouldn't want to share HIS workload.
Today I am back OP with a vengeance. No more dipping into the Christmas baking. I could barely recognize my puffy face with little eyes in the mirror this morning and my blood glucose is in the stratosphere. Time to get back in control. Besides, I hate how bloated and sluggish I feel when I overindulge in carbs.

Soon I have to go out in the rain and run some errands. I'm glad it isn't snow but it sure is gloomy and miserable...and it's supposed to continue for another week or so. Sheesh! Why can't they send some of this liquid sunshine to the Sahara where they really need it?
  • I knew it was someone that was a regular here, Hi meowna...im on my way up there in the morning
  • Linda I am not offended! I went to bed dead tired last night and DH came up throwing things all over and slamming doors I asked him what his problem was and i got you run off to bed so fast you did not even oput the food away! I asked him if i was the only person in this house that could do any work and he cursed at me and slamed around some more and huffed and went to bed. So i enddedu p early up and washed all the dishes and started a few things and went tyo work. when i got home nothing was done as for the house!! I made dinner before i left and wel not a single dish was cleaned and not a single counter was cleared nor was any laundry folded. (he is on vacation for 3 weeks now. i think if any one has room for me I will move out for the next 3 weeks it is going to be **** on wheels!!! and to top it all off I am starting to get sick! can i wonder? h=my head is spinning and nose ir running and well i feel like some thing the dog draged in. I knew that this would happen just when i need me in health and need to push my self i break down!

    What a drag!
  • Hi everyone! Today was CT scan and ultrasound day. I got poked twice, have one BIG knot on my forearm (why she stuck me there I'll never know) and once they get me in the scanner, she says over the speaker "Ms Lesman, did you drink your oral contrast fluids?' I replied 'What?' Next thing ya know, I am getting my needles pulled and they are rescheduling me for next week. The doctor didn't tell me anything about drinking 3 bottles of barium shakes before the scan. Arrrghh! I did get my ultrasounds done, so it is at least half way through. I'll be SO glad to get this over with.

My diet sucks, I can't seem to get away from carbs. I am thinking about going on Sugar Busters, because it is more like my whole family eats. I think I am doing more damage to them with the low carb diet than what it is worth. I can eat cream sauces and butter and cheese on a low carb diet, but they cannot eat it with their 'regular' food and not gain weight. Ya can't mix the best of both plans! I am going to try really hard to make something balanced we can all eat, and if not then the SB will be my next try. Rob would be ok with it, but I can't feed Cody like this. Anybody have suggestions?
  • Hey Jennifer,

Of course, you know I had to pipe on in here when you asked for suggestions on SB! As someone who's been following SB for almost 3 years, I can tell you on a personal level that I love this WOE, as you probably know already I chose SB over other eating plans/diets after reading 11 different books from the library, from Atkins to Suzanne Sommers, and others. I chose SB over everything else because it looked like a plan I could live with indefinitely & it didn't cut out any certain food group (contrary to belief, sugar is NOT a food).

I suggest to people to get the book from their library, it's an easy read, but can be a little confusing and/or contradictory. Hopefully the new version to come out next month will be better. See if they also have MICHAEL MONTIGNAC'S book, EAT YOURSELF SLIM. He wrote about this WOE first and has more info in it than the SB BOOK-which is where the SB BOOK came from originally, hence, some of the confusion.

Of course, you KNOW you can come over to the SB BOARDS at ANY TIME to ask any of us some questions, we're all more than happy to help anyone.

I know that my entire family could easily follow SB with me if they wanted to. I know they absolutely love my CRUSTLESS CHEESECAKE that's totally SB LEGAL - my regular cooking, well...that's a whole other story!

And, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO ON THIS BOARD!!!

    Good luck!

    Debbie
  • Thanks, Debbie. We know we are all very welcome in SB. It's a good place to be.
Hope nobody minds if I close this thread. Some of us (me) run a day or two behind sometimes and may think it's Hump Day Daily!
