Where is everybody?

I guess Ruth is in the meadow with the girls...

Pooky, are you lying flat on your back? wishing the best for you!

As for me, I am a little better- but my scale is up from the past 2 weeks of cereal, bread, chips and pasta. I think I am coming back to earth, but wow, when I am eating carbs, it just means cravings every 2 hours.

So the bacon is defrosting, and so's a steak for dinner. I will take a walk to the bookstore today, and get something good to read.

The rest of life is settling down. My kitchen is 90% put back together; dishes in the cubboards, food on the shelves. We decided to leave the walls unfinished for a month or two, I need my weekends back for a while. So some cleaning, some laundry, some cooking...but my bigger goals are take a walk, and read a book! Maybe I'll start a Christmas shopping list, and think about getting ahead in that area!

What's on your agenda for the day?

dottie

edited to give my love to MamaJ- please be sure to let us know things went OK !

Morning, Dottie. I am still in my fuzzy robe and slippers! No way for the meadow today! It is just pouring and the girls have decided playing in the muddy part of the garden is fun! They are just soaked and are strolling around with towels draped over them like prizefighters. My kitchen floor is about ready to be grassed in. Hmmmm - wonder how that would work. We'd probably need grow lights!

Dottie, I think it's a good idea to take some time off from your kitchen and relax on weekends. I am sure it looks gorgeous.

Obedience training went well once again with Lucy - I think she is getting it! FINALLY! Her biggest problem is being too friendly when another dog comes into the class - she makes like a Wally World greeter! She also watches herself in the mirror as we walk! Vain little beastie!

I tested my blood more than four times yesterday and am just freaked out by the high readings! I did eat low GI carbs at each meal yesterday but the 7.8 to 9.6 range is just not good. Today I am having a low carb breakfast and lunch to see what difference that makes. My "prick thing" is practically painless so I don't feel like St Stephen the Martyr. After two weeks of this, the Doc will analyse and decide what med to put me on! I hate the thought but diabetes is not a good thing!

The Library? Yes, I'll be going there this morning if it eases up a bit on the raining! Harry is going to make Scotch Broth Soup for his lunch and has already lit the woodstove in the back room. I need to work in a Church check as there is a First Communion tomorrow. Other than that, today looks like a cozy stay-at-home day.

Pooky - RELAX! and think futuristic thoughts!

Hope everyone has a great Saturday.

Morning Dottie and all of you sleepyheads!

Today is looking to be a GORGEOUS day here on LI - (naturally! the weatherman said it would be very rainy! ) It's going to make it hard to decide what to do first today! Not to mention that dh woke me up by saying "I think I'm coming down with something" : and we ALL know what that means!!! Men! Such big babies! Tomorrow we won't be able to do anything since we will be going to a 60Th Anniv. brunch for the in-laws....... the only really good thing about that is that I get to see my babies!

Dottie, glad your work is mostly done. We are at the same stage with our kitchen work..... the walls and floor are going to remain "in limbo" until we make a decision! I THINK I want the walls to be painted (not sure about sponge or faux-something), but the prep work will be enormous, and I absolutely refuse to let dh do it - I have had "speckled" cabinets and appliances in the past and don't ever want that again!! - and we haven't found the right flooring yet, and we need a LOT of floor!
Dottie, knowing your determination, I'm sure you'll get yourself back on track real soon, it sounds like you're on your way back now!

I've been doing ok with the EATING part of this woe, but the activity part seems to be an almost lost cause for me. I seem to need a really good hard kick in the butt (or something!) - not sure why, but nothing really appeals to me - now that I can fit back on my bike, it's starting to get too cold to ride it at the park around here (lots of open land and beachfront - brrrrrrr)....... hmmm: Ruth, maybe I could walk Lucy for you??????

Well everyone, hope you all have a great weekend, whatever your plans are....... will check back in later......

Morning Ruth.... you snuck in on me!

I'm at work and just have a few minutes to check in. My new laptop is not here and the PC at the house has decided that it doesn't want to work hard enough to connect to the internet, so all it's been good for this week is to play games. (It's very temperemental)
My Dad is now officially on dialysis for life. He's in his 2nd treatment today and he will have one more in the hospital Monday, and then maybe he will get to go home. Then he goes to the neighborhood dialysis center 3 days a week. Needless to say, he's not a happy camper.

I'll have my grandson for the night tonight. I love it. The only good thing tha's come out of my Dad being so sick is that I've been reminising, and have contacted two of my old best friends who I've nearly lost contact with. It was fun catching up with them, and they both have grandkids now, so it was fun comparing notes. Anyway I got their email addys so we can stay in contact. Funny, but I never want to use the phone anymore.

Well, I've got to get back to work, or I won't be finished by the time Nathan get here. Have a great weekend.

PS I've found a great radiostation on the web, it's called MOONTALK and it's 50 & 60's music. Great.

HELP! I have lost my cervix and I can't find it! It feels like it fell out of my body, I swear. So If you find it, can you give it back?

The procedure itself was fine, it was the *%$#@#$ cramping afterward that sucked the big one! I was on complete bed rest when I got home and I'm just a wee bit crampy today, nothing I can't handle. Iam also thinking positive ++++ thoughts today so begins the torurous 2 week wait to see if it stuck! The coolest thing about the whole process was I got to look at dh's spermies through a microscope--very neat! Wiggly little boogers and they had better do the job!

Today is clean the house in a huge way--the weather is unpredictable today, sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny, so no yard work (plus I don't want to hurt myself). I have Mount Laundry downstaris and a more than necessary bathroom clean on the agenda.

Barb, I am so sorry to hear about your dad--God Bless!

SamsG--I have a great alternative for flooring. I was watching Debbie Travis and she uses cork flooring--very durable, soft and been used in England for bathrooms and kitchens for decades because of it's great qualtiies.

Ruth honey, I'm thinking some serious Atkins Induction for you hon. I swear it worked like a charm when I had to get my LH levels down.

Dottie love, don't worry about the binge, just get up and dust yourself off and eat only low carb things, even if you're craving, just eat low carb things. I find I can work out my cravings faster if I eat a LOT of stuff, just making sure it's all low carb.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hello everybody. I'm still fighting this cold/flu whatever it is. I just woke up from a TWO HOUR afternoon nap. I couldn't believe I'd slept that long and would probably have slept longer if the neighbour hadn't come knocking on my door.
I'm also fighting carb attacks. I seriously got off the Fat Flush Plan during the 8 days our daughter was visiting from Scotland. It wasn't even her influence. I was just in "relaxation mode". Now I'm having a hard time getting back on any kind of plan. I'm pretty sure I want to do the Atkins thing again. Like Ruth, my blood glucose is still on the high side even with two Metformin tablets per day and I know in my heart that low carb is the only way to get them back in the normal range. BTW, Ruth, for the Americans in our little group, I believe we have to multiply our blood glucose readings by 18 to get the Imperial measurements. I read that somewhere.
There are also some parts of the Fat Flush Plan that I think I'll keep because they seemed to help speed up my metabolism and made my skin nice and soft. That's the Oil of Evening Primrose, the ground flaxseeds (2 tbsp per day) and 2 tbsp per day of flaxseed oil. Meanwhile, I will try to keep fats relatively low (as in limiting butter, cheese and cream). I'm almost ready to get started on this except that I'm still feeling so lousy with this cold and I keep wanting to eat everything in sight, including the Hallowe'en candy which ISN'T in sight but I go looking for it.
Pooky, hope that egg decides to be a keeper.
Ageoldie, I'm sorry about your hubby's health problems. I'm sure he's not thrilled but what's the alternative? Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Dottiejohn, we will get back on the program together, ok? I managed to gain back 5 lb in the past week. Of course, I wasn't even trying to stay op.
Germy hugs being sent out to all of you. ACHOOO!

Hi everyone! Well, another family weekend. I hate when they come one each week, why can't they all ride together? Would save them gas and me headaches! Anyway, brother was great as usual, we had a great visit!

Jiff, you know how kids say the darndest things? The other day we're in the store and Tommie says to me, "Mommy, remember when we went on vacation, and that nice lady let me wear her lipstick? Well, I want you to buy me my very own lipstick, cause I thought that was waaaaaaaaaaay cool!" She will always remember you as that lipstick lady! Hugs to you, hope things are going better on the job front.

Everyone else, much love, but I'm too tired to type more. Beddy bye time for me!

Good Morning everyone! Coffee's on and I have a cup!

Up early this morning courtesy of Miss Miree. She did puppy duty this morning, bless her little heart.

Did a lot of work yesterday but I have a long way to go still. I have the board meeting at my house and I have been "beautifying" my home. I never seem to get around to it, and we all know it's the finishing touches that make a home. I am tackling the kitchen today with some touch up paint and a cupboard scrubbing.

Linda lovey, don't be hard on yourself! You were celebrating your daughter's return home! I know it's really hard and the carb maonter is alwasy there watching and trying to pull you but I know you can do it!

Jiff that's great news! Just think, you'll be ready for your morning walks with the pup again really soon!

Sherrie, I hear ya, relatives pick the darndest times to visit. I was in the middle of ripping out old and musty drywall from my basement, dh and I were covered in white dust and who shows at my door? My aunt and uncle, their daughter and her boyfriend. Sheesh!

Ahh,
I love waking up to the 3 notes on the recorder my son has learned. I think the dogs don’t love it much because Molly followed me to the bathroom and Hannah wanted outside FAST!

We went to see Ringling Brothers Circus yesterday with about 25 friends. We took the train in to town and the kids loved it. They took Bello the clown from the Big Apple circus. It was queit the production and tons of fun. We didn’t get home before 8:30 and after a little bit of work I got to bed about 12. So the recorder was such a treat this am.

Anyway, I am gearing up for a Naming Ceremony for the boys in 1 week. We did not have a bris (the ritual circumcision for boys at 8 days where they are given their Hebrew names) for them and wanted to give them their Hebrew names. Older boy, and little man wanted to invite a few friends so 1 Rabbi, 25 adults and 18 kids later we will be having a party next Sunday.

Anyway I have to get the older boy ready for Religious school.,
But Ruth, take care of yourself, we need you healthy.
Pooky, take it easy would you. And all my prayers for you

have a good Sunday ladies and be well,
-L

I wrote a book and lost the whole post! Curses!

Well, it was just about my boring day yesterday hunting for a good book, and visiting DN. I am trying to encourage her to read more BOOKS, as her parents are not readers; more video/tv/computer oriented. She was an early reader, and loved reading Harry Potter- I read them all with her and she had fun having someone she could talk to about what she was reading. Her parents didn't read them- and I want to be sure she has plenty of good choices and someone to share books with. I loved to read as a kid, and it's so important to me as an adult. So I am starting the Chronicles of Narnia- and bought her Anne of Green Gables for her birthday. Any other ideas for an 8 year old girl?

Last load of laundry is in the dryer, and I will do a quick run to BJ's then home for quiet afternoon, to read, nap, and maybe make some soup. Steak on the grill for dinner, and watch a little of the world series. What more could you ask for?

Have a good one,

dottie

Is 8 years old too young for Nancy Drew mysteries? How about the Black Stallion series? I loved any books about horses at that age. I also remember reading and enjoying a book called Eight Cousins...and don't forget Little Women. All of the foregoing may be a little old for her though. I will try to think back even farther to books I enjoyed as a child. I did read a lot and still love it.

Afternoon, Chickies. I'm plugging along this weekend, trying to eat "properly" and testing the damned blood every two hours! I cannot believe how high it goes after I eat carbs! I think I will go off "properly" and back onto Atkins tomorrow and see what the effect is! Dumb diabetes! Metformin in my future, I think. LindaBC, we need to compare notes.

A fairly decent afternoon here although a bit cold. The dogs have been out chasing leaves and running around with sticks and I've been catching up on reading and emails. Fall is definitely here. Harvest Moon on Monday night! My men pals (they are a couple) came over after Church and packed my wicker furniture into the loft of the barn so winter is on its way for sure.

DH has made Osso Buco for dinner. It smells wonderful! I guess I can't crab too much about him sitting watching football all afternoon. I was hoping to watch a film tonight - "Notorious" - but I see a baseball game is on. I might even watch it as it is the only TV sport I understand.

Don't forget to read the sticky about supporting this site. Suzanne was very hesitant to post it but finally gave in.

Well, am going to take a sweep through the upstairs now to get ready for Gail tomorrow. I do love her visits but Monday mornings can be pretty hectic if I don't tidy on Sunday night.

See you in the morning.
