I for one am thrilled thatthe summer is finally here! It seems that the long, cold spring is behind us and now we can really enjoy the outdoors!
Coffee's on and I'm fixing to go see Lilo and Stitch, the new Disney movie with Miree. It's her very first time in a movie theater so I hope it goes over well. Buying lots of popcorn for her so hopefully the whole experience won't be so scary.
Pooky beat me this morning. There is more coffee on my front porch and some bacon and Peachie's eggs and sausage. Try not to notice that three of the cushions on the wicker are still not covered in that flowery print. Oh, and sombeody deadhead the pansies in the window box, please.
No darn way am I going to an outdoor dog show in Kingston this morning - thunderstorms are predicted. Poor little Potter, Lucy's brother, will have to participate in the Puppy Sweeps without his Grand***** in attendance. Actually, the show will be cancelled probably if the weather sets in.
I didn't get back here yesterday because Life got in the way again! Lucy started next level obedience and was her usual goofy self. *****y Drawers and her pooch were there but BD was quite subdued. Lucy seems to think she is the WalMart greeter at these sessions - newcomers need ahuge greeting. Better than being a timid fraidy cat dog, I guess. (Latest escapade - she got the underwire out of a bra that was going to the garbage - she looked like a wild boar with the metal pointing out either side of her mouth!)
I'm a bit down about my doc visit - blood results were almost OK but my cholesterol is edging up. Not high but still moving in the wrong way. He was very pleased with the 8.5 pounds gone since March 1 but I have to get that cholesterol down in three months or her will put me on meds! My Doc is waging a war against diabetes and treats it aggressively. So - guess I need to cut out bacon and butter and meat feasts. Are Chicken Wings OK? Just kidding!
Officially announced yesterday that I will not be Treasurer for the Board for the next term - elections at end of October. What a relief to me - not to them! Now the begging me to stay begins but I will not change my mind! I still will be working my butt off (I wish!) until the end of my term but it's nice to know I will have my summer back next year. Harry and the dogs are delighted. It's pretty damned sad when you have a travel fund and folks to visit and can't find a way to get away during the summer!
Pooky, I think Miree will love her first movie. I remeber mine - it was Bambi and I cried. Dumb movie for a little kid with a forest fire and mother dying.
Nasus, I hope your job search shows you results soon. I can totally relate to being "between engagements" - it can get scary.
Tippy, hope that damned leg clears up fast. I know how you hate having health problems interfere with your real life.
SamsGrandma, so stop with the housework already! And did you get a line on a PWD yet?
Southern Chickmeet gals, I can never make it to a Southern meet if Big Hair is needed. I might be able to fake the makeup stuff and do have a stage wig (think Supremes) - would that work? Not that I would even consider going south in summer! My Canadian blood would boil and evaporate away.
Drat - gotta go get milk (again!) and some detergent to finish the laundry. DH has decided to make ff/sf Instant pudding (with whole milk) for his snacks. He has to gain weight, I need to lose weight, Hershey needs to lose and Lucy needs to gain. Both humans are Type 2 diabetic and both have cholesterol problems. We do have menu problems in this house. I want a cook!
my goodness!!! you ladies have already tired me out
and i thought i was already busy!!!!
hope you have a great time at the movie, pookie. it looks like a cute one. how could miree NOT have fun???? time with mom, other kids, all the popcorn she could want... sound like toddler heaven!!!
and ruth, so glad you've made this decision. but sorry to hear about the health things. maybe turkey bacon instead of the real thing? chicken sausage instead of pork sausage? egg beaters?
good things the dogs will eat everything. and loved the image of lucy as a wild boar.
i don't fit the big hair picture either, but i don't care. they'll just have to put up with me the way i am. i can give them a 'honey' that'll make THEIR hair stand on end!!!
lots of errands planned for today, dragging mom along. but if she doesn't get moving, we won't be going anywhere!! a friend's son just graduated from middle school, so we'll stop in at the party today. and we need to pick up a present for my cousin's new baby. his second one, both boys. clothes shopping for me..
and dog kibble. and cat crunchies. people food??? nnaaaaahhh..
had an early morning conversation with peachie. she hadn't had enough coffee. but maybe there's not enough coffee in the world for her on some days!!!
well, have a good day, ya'll.. and try to stay out of trouble..
Coffee is great this morning! Up early, straightened the kitchen, two loads of laundry done and just feel good. I actually slept through the night!
Pooky~ That movie looks so cute. I was thinking of giving DD the money to take her four kiddos! Let me know how it is.
Ruthie~Lucy just sounds like a handful! Love the wild boar story! Too bad you didn't snap a picture! Sorry to hear about your cholestrol. Have you tried any of the supplements? I know of one if you're interested-let me know, k?
Jiff~Unfortunately I can make "big" hair easily! Must be a southern heritage thing! lol Enjoy your shopping trip! Maybe you should drag Peachie with you-sounds like she could use a day out!
The usual around here today. STILL trying to finish up projects not completed thru the week. I've spent far too much time on this computer researching! Sometimes I think it's quicker to pick up the phone and make inquiries!
Have been doing pretty well OP, drinking lots of water and did a nose dive last night! Even dh was shocked as I might eat sweets once or twice a year! That darn lemon meringue pie called me out of bed to the kitchen around 10:30 last night! Woke up at six a.m. with the usual "why the **** did I eat that" thoughts!! Oh well, new day.
Melissa and I still haven't spoken. I sent her a short "E" last week which she didn't respond to. I called yesterday evening-got the machine-and ended up crying before I could get out the full message. Hurtful words were exchanged but I would like to think love is stronger than anger.
Better go check the dryer--dh is walking around with no undies and anxious for the buzzer to go off!
Jiff I love the way you and Peach talk!!! I miss my sister for that. we live to far apart and hardly ever talk by phone. she never returns calls so i gave up. Nor does she answer the phone either.
Things went well for the hospital. I am excited it sounds like a nice place to work. I do not like the nights but i do not want to give up my days either or my evenings. So I will just have to work on that!!! I would rather be still at home.
You girls are really busy!! UGH I have jsut done laundry cleaned out the mudd room and did some more laundry. I still have to go tothe store. and I may color my hair today a lighter color than it is now for the summer. then i have to be gone by 130 to drive 2 1/2 hours to my neices grad party!!! UGH
I will say that I pulled a pooky with this gift!! I did a bunch of old picts especially the emberassing ones and made a nice collage with it. it will be funny!! I will let you all know how it goes!
Pretty quiet here yesterday--hopefully we have some more come out of the woodwork?
Didn't go see Lilo and Stitch yesterday due to some early rising/bowel movement issues on Miree's part. She slept for several hours in the afternoon, poor babe.
Today is the big day though, I promised her we would go. She has already been bugging me about it! LOL
Dh bought her a swing set from Canadian Tire last night (if you have your flyer Ruth, it's the one on sale for 149 down from 169) Dh tried to get it all set up last nght but he did get a swing up so she could have a try. She absolutely loves it! Dh will finish getting the slide together and the glide and ride (hopefully?)
Happy Sunday Morning Everyone! It is not quite 6:00 yet, but I couldn't sleep. DH and DS are still snoring away. We had a busy day yesterday. Two basketball games out of town and then a wedding and reception, also out of town. DS and team won their two games again--they are having a GREAT summer season. The gym had to have been well over 100 degrees. I don't how they did it, I was sweating just sitting there!! Came home and for once was just a slug bug. I have to say, I could get used to it. Went down to an outdoor wedding in a park at a gazebo--as hot as it was, it was a beautiful wedding. At the reception there were about 400 people! We were lucky and got to a table with some friends whose son is DS's frend--next thing you know we had like 10 15 and 16 year old boys and a couple of girls down at that end of the table. So, DS could absolutely NOT complain about how boring it was. The buffet offered many low carb (and calorie if I may say) options. We came home about 10:00 (which is LATE for us )brought one of DS's friends who lives down the street with us--he had had enough wedding and was tired from the basketball as well. All in all a fun day. Got to wash the van and vacumn it again--it has had heavy duty use since last done. Need to start planning on what to pack for DH's family reunion next weekend and we are grilling out shish-kabobs tonight. That's about it for me.
Pooky, Have fun at the movie. I remember my DS's first movie was "Little Mermaid"--at the happy ending after she marries the prince and is waving goodbye to the mermaids my son starts to cry and says, "But she will miss her daddy!" I LOVE that kid!
Nasus, glad things went well at the hospital--fingers crossed here for you!
Janice, I am sending hugs your way--((((((())))))Hang in there!
Ruth, glad BD behaved herself for a change! Congrats on making the announcement--don't let them talk you out of it.
Muggy and misty here this morning but it sure beats cold and snowy! The meadow is looking gorgeous - I kind of miss the morning romps out there but Lucy is still too rowdy to be off-lease. She'd be in the next town greeting the townfolk in 20 minutes. We have yet to perfect the "Come" command.
Lots of drop-ins yesterday. A friend in Ottawa has a "Welcome" mat that says "Go Away!" and I am considering getting one! JUST KIDDING! It gets a bit much sometimes but I am glad people feel welcome in our home. DH grumbles about the amount of traffic but I ignore him.
My former minister arrived just at noon. She was on her way to do a wedding in the area. Sue is a sweetie and has peanut butter rights in our house. (When she was in this Parish, she always knew she could come to my house and make herself a PB sandwich.) Lucy did the muddy paws on the beige skirt routine so we washed Sue's skirt while we had lunch.
Sue left around 2:30 and cousin Tom pulled into the lane at 2:45! He came to tune my dear old (1910) piano and spent 3 1/2 hours doing so. Really neat guy - used to live in the Virgin Islands and did all the piano tuning for cruise ships and the hotel lounges. He just got divorced from Rhoda who was about 20 years older and a real horror apparently. (I think she just wanted a toy-boy - and a tuned piano.) Anyhow, the piano is now concert pitch and I'm going to have to get back to playing and practicing! We will be moving it to the Fair Hall next weekend for the Family Reunion - "we" being several strong guys who can take orders from Tom on how to do this. Sheridans are not good at taking orders so we may have to use non-blood relatives.
So not much got done yesterday and today does not look much better. Another cousin is arriving at 12 and I KNOW she will be here for at least 2 hours. Berna is a non-stop talker! I must make a really chewy lunch so she can't talk with her mouth full!
I still have my poor new plants sitting on the planting bench ready to go in. Maybe late this afternoon?
Have to go and shower to get ready for Church. Hope everyone has an excellent Sunday!
ARRRRRGH ... I did this whole long post to EVERYONE - and now I lost it!!!!!!!!!!!
In short --- hope you all have a great day......
Ruth - do NOT let them try to sweettalk you into taking back that job!
Annie - while you're washing your van, would you do my truck, too?
Pooky - hope Miree feels better and enjoys the movie
Sue - good luck with the hospital------- it's scary to be unemployed when you want (sorta to be employed!)
J - I hope things pick up -- it's AWFUL when you try to communicate after hateful words but it seems like your message is lost out there somewhere in "the void"
Jif - did you break down and buy some people food too?
Like I said, this was the SHORT version since I lost the long one
can't wait to hear the movie review, pooky. hope it's a good one..
and ruth, maybe you didn't get much done, but it sounds like you had fun.
and no people food, sam and rosies grandma. we ate out,. and i went to the middle-school graduation of a friend's son. mom didn't want to go. a great time, huge amounts of food, and kids running all over the place having water fights in the heat.
and adoannie.. i've been trying to figure out where you live, and from the clues you've been dropping, i figure you're somewhere from texas west. but not as far as california. and you're not as far north as colorado. i think. how am i doing so far????
mmmm. lemon meringue pie. if you're going to fall off the wagon, that's about one of the best choices, i think, janice.
and sue, i'm sure this job will work out. and something else wonderful will happen as well. this is THE YEAR!!!!!
yesterday's shopping trip was a rousing success!!!! except that my top is two sizes smaller than my bottom. oh well. life goes on. but that also means that i have to wear tops with stretchy bottoms, so i had to leave some great shirts in the store.
but i spent a grand total of $113 and bought 8 shirts and two pairs of pants!!! that's a good deal, i think!!!!! and this morning i have another bag of clothes ready to toss. <sigh> it's ok. i can handle it.
didn't get the baby present yesterday, but got lots of other things done.
and more today. have to go check the laundry.
by the way, how do you make hard boiled eggs???? please don't laugh. i can cook many many things, but i can't figure out how to boil an egg, and i can't fry the blasted things either.
Put the eggs in a pan of COLD water, making sure the water is at least a half inch over the top of the eggs.
Put the pot, without the lid on HIGH heat.
When it comes to a boil, REMOVE the pot from the heat and put on the lid.
Take the pot OFF the heat and leave it with the lid on for 20-25 minutes.
Dump out the hot water and run cold water over the eggs. Crack on the counter and peel right away.
Note: Fresh eggs are harder to peel than eggs that you get from the store. I always buy store eggs rather than farm eggs when I have to make a big batch of devilled eggs.
Hmmm - maybe this should be in the recipe section?
Let me see if I can introduce you to some Southern-isms. . . . .
"Why I haven't seen you since you were knee-high to a grasshopper!" My entire family uses this one.
"It's hotter than blue blazes out here." Get used to that one, it's summer now. Anyone ever actually see a blue blaze?
"Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise." Used to describe when you're going to do something.
And my personal favorite, "I haven't even hit a lick at a snake today." Meaning, I can't get one single thing accomplished so I'm playing on the computer instead!
Jiff, I thought I was the only one who didn't know how to boil an egg. And Ruth, that's the way I do it now since someone at work educated me!
I better get off my fanny and prepare for the inevitable Sunday visitors we get after church every week. Ya'll have a good one, I'll check back in later!
I ended up working at the ice house last night for a few hours which killed the rest of the evening. Dh and Michael went to the deer lease to pick up the trailer in preparation of going fishing in Rockport for a week. It's the "boyz" yearly get away. I used to join them the last couple days but I'm not sure this year. I'd love to take sis(dd) and the kids for a couple of days but still haven't heard from her.
A group of us went together on Texas lottery tickets last night-it was over $70 million. Out of 120 tickets we didn't hit a lick (southern slang here?). Guess it just goes to show you - doesn't matter how many you have-it still only takes one to win! Aww well, nice dreaming about living off the interest! lol
Same-0 today. Bit of household stuff.
Southern Slang Here - Well, I'm fixin to get off here and do something productive! lol
oh thank you ruth!!! you mean i didn't have to simmer them for an hour and 20 minutes this morning????
i've tried them in cold water, at a simmer, for about 20-25 minutes, and the yolks were still a tad too soft. and i've heard about adding salt to the water, but i can't remember why. and i always add vinegar when i'm poaching eggs [and i make GREAT poached eggs], because it helps keep their shape. but vinegar with the egg shells??? not sure it's a good idea
i've been simmering them for at least 45 minutes, then running cold water over them for a few minutes, then adding ice cubes to the cold water until everything's nice and cold.
overkill????
at least i make great deviled eggs after i get the darned things boiled!!
and thanks for the language education. i've heard quite a few of them, but that snake thing had me giggling.
but nothing will get me to have big hair and makeup so thick you can run your fingernails through it!!!!
