Hi Sue,

You do low carb (very low carb) and intense workouts Monday to Friday. You start carbing up on Friday night and carb up Sat and Sun (there is a limit but I'm not sure what it is)...you don't work out all weekend but work out twice on Monday (a.m. cardio and p.m weights). It's supposed to be very effective for weight training and low carbing. I think it's more complicated than low carb or BFL but sounds like it would be more effective. I'm really interested in it because of the way the food plan is supposed to work to maximize weight training.

I don't have any links but I'm looking! Will post if I find!

I found this very detailed description of CKD:

http://pages.prodigy.net/kymatt22/we...KDcomplete.htm

It is more structured than just low carb but I think if you are doing any kind of serious weight training, you need to pay attention to muscle mass and also glycogen and insulin while doing low carb.

I will be studying this.

Thanks susan I have found that i do need to take in more carbs than the 30 allowed by intervetion of my plan. Otherwise i will feel like limp spaghetti when i work out like today i had all i could do to hit 30 min/ 350 cals when i usually do 40 min and 600+ cals.

I will check out the link thanks.

One of the reasons I am looking into this is:

1) my dr thinks I am carb sensitive (normal for perimenopause). therefore I have cut carbs way down.

2) BFL style workouts (intense) are difficult when you're not feeding the muscles ANY glycogen. I looked into NHE (similar setup but I think you eat 2 carb meals a week, not a whole 2 days of carb up). NHE is probably more like BFL than Bodyopus / CKD.

Although I think this will require more stringent tracking on my part (and record keeping...yuck), I think it might bring more vitality to my workouts. I really have not gotten back to C1 levels of intensity since getting sick last summer and then returning to C2.

My issue with Bodyopus is the reliance on fat burners but I think it could be quite the effective program without them (I'm not convinced they work except to work your money out of your pocket). So I'll ignore the fat burner advice and just try to utilize the food plan/exercise.

Sue: we have a BFL thread under Diet Plans. Most of us are post C1 and have tweaked the program a bit (some a lot more than others) but we get our fair share of newbies too. Join us if you want!!! It's a great great group.

I had started to post there a few months back but i was getting to spread thin with the several threads i am on. (and 2 boards) I still follow a lot of what Bill says but i have a personal trainer now to do me in and beat me up. I am in C2 now but like i said it is all tweaked. One thing that you may want to look into is the low glycemic index fods. there is a large amount of articles regarding that. one of the girls i kow follows that diet and does very well. basically her diet consists of good food choices that are health. check it out. if i ever slow down i will check it out up there. thanks for the invite.

Hi Sue,

Thanks. When I did C1, I was doing mostly brown rice and sweet potatoes as my carbs. I seem to have difficulty even with low glycemic carbs. I wish I didn't as brown rice is one of my all time favorite foods!

I am hesitant to try any plan with carbs but I find that without it, I cannot do sustained intense exercise without losing lean muscle.

Lyle McDonald did a run of Bodyopus and posted his weekly journals on the net. I believe it at weightsnet.com. Afterwards he wrote a book called the Ketogenic Diet. Lyle has his own website but the book is available at cheaper sources.

It does sound like McDonald really tested Bodyopus and then tweaked it using scientific findings etc. He also puts in "In case this doesn't apply to you, your metabolism is slower etc, then do this." That is what drew me to it. I find that I'm out of normal range on most plans and I wanted to know how to tweak the original plan to suit ME. So, I ordered the book. It will be interesting to see.

My birthday is Monday and I am getting Powerblocks. I'm trying to move my workouts at home because trying to compete with the guys at the gym for equipment (especially dumbbells and UBW equipment) is futile. I have an elliptical at home and hope to keep adding more things until I am no longer dependent on my gym for anything!!!

I go to the local Y and there is almost no cpmpetition for any equipment. that works for me as i can not afford to buy even new underwear at this time. (christmas will be interesting, I know what will be in my stocking )

I hope you have a great birthday!!! and enjoy the power blocks. that is truly exciting!!

I will have to check out lyles web site. thanks. let me know how he tweaked the program. it may be interesting as i have a slower metabolism from the to many years of yo yo dieting. it still has not recovered.
