I took the plunge and had my first Brazilian Wax. LOVED IT! Well, didn't love it during it, but definitely loved it afterward! I went to "Brazilian Wax by Andraiea" in Marietta, GA - they have three locations, and are about to open a fourth, for those looking for a salon in Atlanta... It wasn't very expensive, and didn't hurt nearly as badly as I expected. I even got to meet Andraiea, very nice woman.
For others who have them regularly, how long do they last for you normally? How soon do you find yourself having to do touch up?
I have found that places that "specialize" in waxing (where waxing is all they do) do the best work. I go to a place called "Wax In The City" and they do an awesome job. I could have sworn that it lasted longer (around 6 weeks) and was a lot less painful!
Oddly enough, the Brazilian hurt less than my eyebrow waxes do. When I get my brows done it makes my eyes water, I start sneezing, my eyes almost always swell, I get freaky red spots. Down there the pain faded pretty quickly, and I got less red spots than I usually get from shaving.
My esthetician (no idea how to spell that...) was this tiny Brazilian woman who couldn't have been more than 5' tall. I was convinced that there was no way she was going to be able to rip the wax off hard enough to do any good and was going to have to keep pulling on it to get everything. Uh, no. She did a great job. When she was in the more 'sensitive' areas every time she pulled a strip off she patted me with her other hand and said "we're okay honey" over and over. She turned and looked at me about halfway through and said "you are doing really great, a lot of women are crying by now". I don't know if she was trying to distract me at that point or if a lot of women really do cry!
I guess my hair must grow pretty fast, I've had to do some minor touch up already and it has only been a week. She did say that some of the hair was too short and probably wouldn't come off with the wax, but I guess it will get easier and easier to sync up as I get more used to waxing? Don't know.

The first couple of times I did it, I had to do some touch up tweezing myself after about a week. As the little shorter hairs grow out and you get subsequent waxes, you don't have to do as much. (I'm assuming you used to shave before?) And as you do it more often, the little shorter hairs become finer and thinner, so you don't feel the need to touch up as much either.
I'd say the first few times I did it, I went back at 3-ish weeks - sort of wrapped around my travel schedule. Lately I go about every 5 weeks. I'm actually a week overdue right now ... I need to make that appointment while I'm thinking about it!

I flipped back and forth between shaving and epilating. The epilating never seemed to last more than a couple of days, I was always out of sync with hair growth with it too... I also got a lot of ingrown hairs with it... So, far, I notice no ingrown so far post wax. A bunch that were ingrown are actually coming up and seem to be happier.
I guess I need to not continually touch up, or I'll wind up perpetually out of sync. Going back after three weeks this time is probably a good idea...

Heh. Yeah. The waxing also exfoliates and I really do think the heat of the wax helps too, to open things up. I found that my in-growns got so much better, even just after my first waxing.
OMG you're so brave! I've always wanted to get one but I'm so self conscious and scared at the same time. Maybe once I lose a bit more weight I'll get one. I do have a question though. Is there anything you're supposed to do "down there" before you get a Brazilian? Like trim it or what not. I've never really seemed to find an answer to that one.
Trimming helps, yeah. You don't *have* to, but hair that's about 1/4 inch long is easier to wax off - less pulling, so less pain. That's a help, especially the first time around.
You can also exfoliate the area with a rough washcloth or a loofah ... don't do it the day of (if you shower in the morning) because it'll make the skin more tender. But if you do it for a couple of days before, it'll help.
Also I'd suggest taking a couple of Advil or Motrin about 30-45 mins before you go.
No need to be embarrassed though. The women who do it are *very* professional and they have seen just about everything. Tell your waxer that you're a first-timer and they'll help you out by talking you through the process and letting you know what to expect.
It's really not all that painful. And every time you go it's easier and easier.
