The loads of clothes in the wardrobe bought hoping to fit into them some day is something Ii can so relate to. Hang on to them because it's incredibly motivating when they suddenly do AND means you don't have to go out and buy many clothes as you lose more!

I'm so with you on the varying sizes too - I've been trying old things on that are no too big and even jeans or tops from the same shop in the same size hang differently. I'm liking the no sizes idea too

Sadly, men, who are supposed to have their garments measured in inches, don't have it any better these days!

Personally, I'd rather face the harsh reality of wearing a bigger size than my current one if it meant that I could reliably pick the same size at all stores while my measurements remained stable!

Sizes are just so crazy. I keep hoping I'll hit that point where people say you don't have to lose 30lbs to drop a size and it's more like 10. It's certainly not size 16 - must be like size 8 or something..
Vex - does that ever really happen? When a new size is just 10 pounds away? When I was 133 I wore an 8 petite, even though I'm 5'6. Back then though sometimes a size 10 would fit - depended upon the brand. I dread "weighting" 30 pounds for my next size down, but waiting 10 would be great!! I will try the 16W - but no clue where to look - like at KOHLS or Pennys or Old Navy - I don't know if they have W sizes - or should I stick with Lane Bryant and Old Navy? One more pound down today - 217. That's 15 pounds lost in exactly one month!

Despite having worked at Target, I generally flat-out refuse to shop there for clothing because I've literally taken 6 different sizes into a dressing room and fit into all of them before. Even here in Japan, they do waist sizes for jeans...so I bought a few pairs of 76 cm s last week (already loose again...not sure whether to be ecstatic or horrified) from pretty firmly in the middle of the plus section, but when I bought a bathing suit this weekend, it came with a pair of canvas shorts from the normal section that seem to be trying their damnedest to slide off of my butt. My work suits (none of which fit correctly now...why did I have to shrink out of the expensive clothes? TT^TT) range from US size 10 to size 16.

SIZES. Y U NO MAKE SENSE?!

I'd love the no-size, or even better, a true standard size if it were accurate with anything you tried on. I'm wearing things that are sizes 20W, 18W, and 16/18W right now. Tried on a "regular" size 18 pair of jeans- they went over the hips, but that was about it. No way in heck they were closing on me! (Not this week, anyway...soon, though!! )

Wondering if my size journey will be as weird in reverse as it was when I gained all the weight back in the late 90s'. I went from a 14 to a 16 and then skipped over 16W and 18 and went straight to 18W. I'd love my next size to be a "regular" size 16....I suppose it's all in where I shop, eh?

It seems like sizes under 12 -14 run about a 1 inch difference in each measurement, and the ones over that threshold have a 2-3 inch differnece. So if you are over 16ish it might take 20 pounds or more to hit the next size. It also depends on where you carry your weight.

I am down 40 pounds this year. I started at 18-20 (or 18W) in most pants, and 16W in dresses. Shirts were XL-2X depending on the type (I am busty).

Now I am fitting into 16 pants in most places (some have a bit more muffin top if they are too low. Or they are too tight in the thigh, as usual) and 14 in most dresses. Tops are L-XL. I have lost about 6 inches in bust, waist and hips each. But I think my tummy is holding me back in getting smaller sizes in some skinny pants. Any my bust in other clothing.

I just go a pair of interim jeans at Ashley Stewart. I tried on a whole bunch of 16s, and all were too big in the waist except for one labelled 16W that fit perfectly. Go figure. I went to Lane Bryant and picked up a clearance blouse that barely fit over my bust. It was on sale so I bought it in hopes that I'll lose half an inch in my bust in the coming weeks. But I bought a button down shirt from Ann Taylor in a 12 a few weeks ago. And a dress in Large in Banana Republic. I even managed to fit into a 14 button down shirt there. Who knows how this works.

I can't wait until I get a little smaller, and I am no longer at the top end of the charts at H&M.
