I hire people all the time. If I got a candidate in jeans, I wouldn't make a job offer to them. In fact, the interview might even be cut short as not to waste my time. Also, I expect them to have questions for me. If they don't, I'm concerned. It's a two-way interview.

You don't have to wear a suit (unless it's for a conservative environment, like a bank or something) but jeans are out of the question regardless of the position.

Friends don't let friends go to job interviews in jeans. ~_^

This is the one I bought. Suitable or should I return it? Button up shirts don't work with me at all or I would have got one. I tried on LOTS. This is the only shirt I found that fit me decent.

I personally think it's a tad busy... was there anything a solid color that suited you?

I guess it depends on where you are interviewing. I think they're fine if you're interviewing for a job at Costco out on the floor, since the folks who work their wear jeans. There are lots of fruit-industry jobs around here where jeans would be entirely appropriate; in fact, people would think it odd if you wore slacks or a skirt to an interview like that.

But for retail, anything in an office, or any kind of professional job--yeah, nix the jeans.

I ended up wearing black trouser pants, a nice grey argyle sweater and black shoes with a thick small heel. I think I looked okay. I don't know how I did on the interview, I have nothing to compare it with.

As a note, I think the outfit you bought is lovely, and certainly work appropriate in most places. A nice red or pink cardigan would look really nice with it, if you needed long sleeves.
