Tips/Products for EXTREMELY dry and cracked heels?
My heels are horrible. Only ever had two pedicures, one at a very nice Aveda salon...but neither one made a difference. Any home remedies or less expensive product suggestions?
I'm using Heeltastic, it's an as seen on TV product, it looks kind of like a roll on deodorant tube. It is definitely making a difference in my feet, my cracks are gone, and it's even helping with some problem skin on my toes. Appearance-wise, my heels definitely look a lot better.
The footcare aisle at any grocery, drug store, target, etc will have some super greasy lotions for cracked heels. Put it on at night with socks over the top, and they should start feeling better in a few days.
I've had a lot of success with Kerasal, even with those deep, painful cracks. It's available in most drugstores.
Kerasal is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I also got one of these little gizmos for my heels. I use this after each shower and then use the Kerasal at night and it only took a few nights for the painful, cracked skin to be healed.
The Orthotics guy I went to see also commented on my cracked heels and said it was related to foot wear (what else would an ortho guy say ??
He said that your feet are like tomatoes and if you are heavy and press down on them, they will crack. He added that wearing flip flops and sandals are super bad, and you should try to wear a shoe with support around your heel. I guess like putting a tomatoe in a packing crate.
Anyway, I have noticed it works. I still use a stone and put cream on them, but wearing shoes as opposed to flip flops really helps
There is a FOOT FILE available at The Body Shop for around 5 bucks. It is very large--one side is finer and one side is rougher. This is absolutely the best 5 bucks I have ever spent.
I am another vote for Heeltastic and using a ped egg/microfile about once or twice a week (too often makes your feet hurt!). The ped egg on it's own is ok, but Heeltastic is a miracle.

Of all the products I've used, and I've used a lot because I live in the deep south and wear flip flops for most of the year, this is the best. It's not pretty, it's not fancy, and the packaging is just sad but it does the job.
I'm trying Heeltastic right now because I'm lazy and wanted something I didn't have to get all over my hands and so far, it's good...but not Kerasal good.

See, I didn't have any luck with kerasal whatsoever. Must be a ymmv thing?
I used to have the most horrible, painful cracked heels. They are now completely healed.
Losing the weight and eating healthfully I'm sure is what is keeping them well, but to get to this point I bought a ped-egg thingy and sanded them down regularly (at least 2x a month) and put A & D ointment on them every night. I also put lotion on them after every bath/shower.
Now I sand them down about once a month and smear them with A&D ointment when I'm done...and do the lotion daily.
Thanks for bringing this up...yet another thing to add to my list of great things that happened as a result of weight-loss.
i use CETRABEN which is a emollient cream for dry skin conditions. It is my BFs from his doctor but you should be able to get it over the counter. It is a thick soft lotion and i usually lather my feet with it especially my heels and put a pair of socks over the top and leave over night.
Also if you get a corn shaver or a pedegg and shave the excess dry skin off 1st you will get great results
