I need something a little more supportive than just the control top panty hose. The dress I'm wearing is satin, and ANY little bulge or "muffin top" or panty line will show through. I just want a smooth figure, not something that bisects me at the waist.
I tried...and tried and tried to find something one piece. I didn't. Nothing that fit up top, fit well below. And then the snaps in the "crotchular" region...what a huge pain. And they have bodyshapers that come down the thighs, which also is helpful, but then trying to get it off to use the bathroom...
What I ended up doing was finding a really high waisted girdle thingie, with nice support in the belly and thighs. It came up under my bra, and I put my bra over it, and was fairly happy. Not overly happy, I'd still like a one piece.
But it worked for the evening.
- side note. There was a gal at the fundraiser, musta spent big bucks on this gorgeous white satin dress, and NO supportive undergarments on. She was thin, but had buldges and jiggles and it looked terrible. Made me realize, supportive undergarments ARE necessary, even for thinner people... I'm going to keep searching for one.
What I hate, is the trying them ON part! AACK! Stripped down, in a dressing room, trying to wiggle into something that's suppose to be tight on...it's depressing! They could at least turn down the lighting... Sizes aren't the same, some have lace and pretties, it's almost too much.
I used to use these... my preferred type was the type that was like normal underwear with a very high waist that came under your bra. I liked the way that it held me in and gave me support... but at the same time.... I always felt hot, stuffy, and icky. And it was always kind of embarrassing when a guy gave me a hug then a weird look afterwards. lol!
However, what finally and completely put me off of them was the reoccurring yeast infections I was getting. I am more prone to them for several reasons (immunity problems), but my doc said that wearing those definitely made it happen much more often than it would have normal. That fabric just doesn't breathe! And since we're only supposed to be wearing cotton undies?? Yeaaaah... not that great.
I know I am swimming against the tide, but I prefer flexees over spanx. Spanx doesn't seem to do enough to hold in my lower abs and my ribbed flexees do better. I'm still experimenting with brands so if anyone has particular suggestions for lower abs, I'd love to hear them.
I thought I was the only one who felt this way!!!
Flexees seem to have more "compression" - I don't think Spanx is confining enough for the roll issues I have.
I like wearing the high waisted ones as was linked above - I have too much trouble dealing with the full body ones. I'm short and gain weight pretty much everywhere besides my chest so it's a logistics mess with chest size and torso length! The high waisted are nice since it goes up to the bra so no bulge hanging around above the elastic, and less chance of riding down.
I recently went into a little shop that specialized in bras in every imaginable size, shapewear, etc, for stuff to wear with my wedding dress and got a really nice one that was made by a brand called Rago. I'm really happy with it. ragoshapewear dot com (can't link website, I haven't posted enough yet!) is their website, though they only show their products, not actually sell them through their site.
This is very much a "your mileage may vary" response.
I first lost a lot of weight in 1999. I went from a 28 to a 16. I had several bodyshapers I wore, particularly in dresses. I was really unhappy with my midsection. It got smaller, but I still had a very noticeable roll around my waist. The bodyshapers were uncomfortable but I thought a necessary evil.
This time around, after regaining and now losing again, I am eating very differently. No processed food at all, no diet drinks. All healthy, natural whole foods (I also don't do carbs ~ Atkins induction).
I have found that, with a very different eating style, I am losing weight from my waist faster than anywhere else. I'm over 260 lbs in a size 18 and I DO NOT need a girdle anymore. My waist is very small. Yes there's jiggle but it's shrinking and will be pretty much gone soon.
Is it the no carbs? Maybe. The no processed food? Maybe. The no diet drinks? That's what I'm hanging my $$ on. I drank them by the bushel last time, and my waist certainly got smaller, but not that much smaller.
I'm not recommending anyone cut carbs, that's a personal decision. But I do think eliminating processed food and particularly diet sodas is what's doing this for me this time. Again, your mileage may vary! But life without a girdle is FUN.
