This upsets me...because there are LOTS of times where I happen to be out shopping, and I am in sweats/loungepants with my hair all back in a clip, etc.

I hate it when people ASSUME that you don't have any money to spend based on the way you are dressed THAT day.

Sometimes you get the prissy young girls in there whispering, etc...and even in my SWEATPANTS, I want to say to them that my husband and I are the ones who are both educated past high school, and how we both have wonderful, stable jobs. My husband holds 2 degrees, and will be going for his third one soon...but you wouldn't know it if you saw him in his Harley t-shirt and jeans! It makes me want to remind them that THEY are the store clerk who is paid to WAIT ON ME.

Great point Aphil! They make "holy crap thats low" wages, maybe we should feel sorry for them!
This weekend I went out with my DH and 2 boys to get work shoes. And let me tell you, I was looking HOT! Really, I felt like confidence embodied. The first store we came to He and the boys went in first while I emptied the car of some happy meal garbage from the boys into the nearby trash. Then I came in in all my fabulous glory about 3 or 4 minutes later. I walked by an older (frumpy) sales lady and she asked if there was anything she could help me find (in a female Ben Stien tone of voice) and I said "Yes, My husband and sons" OMG... She literally looked me up and down and said "theres none in here for you" (!!!!) I just stood there and laughed! Then I said, "Really!?" She said "No, really there isnt" (Still laughing...) I walked over and there was my Husband. She said "that husband?" and I just looked at her and walked away. Im not sure what was going on, but I have a feeling that I was WAY too hot for the store and she wasnt used to dealing with someone of my beauty! After all, she was anti-fabulous, maybe she was my bizzaro...
Wait. So my point was, you probly out-shone them. Seeing your pic, your beautiful!!! They wanted to pick at the smok'n hot chicky, I'll bet!

You are very right, the term "customer service" has truly become an oxymoron. I had the most bizarre (for me anyway) experience this weekend. I was buying a pant suit and the one that didn't bag in the butt was a size 6 (vanity sizing but anyway ) so I was in a pretty happy mood coming out of the dressing room and took my happy self to the cashier. She never said "good morning" or a single word for that matter. She was not a small woman (probably about the size I used to be) and while she was scanning the bar code, she did sort of a double take at the size, looked me up and down, checked the size tag inside the jacket, looked at me again, made one of those "tsk, huh" noises and held her hand out for the money. As you mentioned, I don't know what her circumstances were - maybe she had really bad cramps, or just broke up with her BF or something - but I couldn't help but take that sort of reaction a little personally. Made me feel like she either thought I was way too big to be a 6 or, was annoyed that she had to sell something she couldn't fit into herself.

Sometimes I talk about my weight loss with people when I shop especially at the Lane Bryant store I frequent. They almost know me by name, oh yes its that bad. Some of the associates I talk to, are genuinely happy for me when I talk about how much I have lost (31.2 lbs) and that I am looking for smaller sizes, possibly new shapes and cuts etc. However, a few of them might as well just walk into the back room because they wouldn't help me even if I was bleeding to death on their floor. Which is sad because I drop a good part of my dime when I shop there. I encourage the associates that they could do it if they really want to. Sadly, most are "happy" in the bodies they currently have and have accepted the fact that they are fat, always have been and always will be.

I have also found especially the region that I live in. There is an almost absolute disdain for healthy skinny people (which I am nowhere near but getting there). They think if you don't eat double fried okra or have a waist size that could count a small county your not of them. It is so sad to see the children around here that are 9 or 10 years old that are bigger weight wise than 20 year old should be. My heart breaks for them because they are getting accustomed to being that way and when they are 30+ and the same way they have the same theology.

*gets off soapbox

I have found that if you are not dressed up, they don't bother to help you because they think you won't spend any money anyway. I went to the same store dressed differently (6 months apart) and was treated very well when I was dressed up compared to when I went wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

I was dressed a bit bummy a few years ago shopping in a mall. I was in a small store and was accused of shoplifting! I was horrified. I left the store and never bought anything there. I was glad to see that they went out of business shortly after that.

I was at a store in the mall last week and picked up a pair of jeans on a sales table and the worker said, "None of those will fit you they are really small." The pair in my hands happened to be a size 6- I was looking for a pair for my 13 year old who is a double zero...so I say, "It's really none of your business, but I am shopping for my daughter, and these are too big. Is there a manager around to speak with?"

The manager was actually just as rude, so I will not go into Wet Seal again!

Ugh, I don't understand people! Why do we have to feel like that just because we are overweight? Sometimes I feel like screaming " you know what I may be overweight, but you are ugly because your attitude sucks!" I went to high school with this girl who thought she was perfect! Cute little body, popular with the boys... She was a super b**ch! She was always mean to me cause I was bigger, and I was only 150 lbs and 5' 5" tall, I wasn't even obese in high school! So we went to our 5 yr reunion & guess what? Ms. Perfect had literally gained over 100 lbs! My spiteful side was jumping for joy! Now she knows how it feels, she's got 75 lbs on me now. But even that isn't the right way to feel and I'm kind of embarrassed that I felt like that. Who is that going to help really?

Hey, I have something so funny I have to share if ya'll have time to read it.

A dear friend of mine is very large and is literally one of the most educated, well-spoken and poised women I have ever known. She is also a mom. She was pushing her stroller in an upscale baby boutique one day when her son threw his bottle onto the floor causing a few drips to hit the floor. The saleswoman that had not acknowledged us before snarled up her lips and looked disdainfully at her--"Shall I get you a tissue?" she disgustingly asked my friend. My friend replied, "What's your problem? YOU ONLY work in a shop!" I died laughing! This was sooooo out of character for my friend which made it all the more funny to me. We gathered ourselves and walked out the door. My friend later told me it was the line from a movie.

The shop closed down within 6 months. Gah-bye!

Extasee....Please excuse the French, but payback is a *****! ROFL.

20 year reunion came and went and I didn't go. I got the pics though. ROFL. Recently, I went to a Fall Bazaar (oh, how I love them) and encountered no other than a woman I knew twenty years ago--one that was mean to me. She tried chatting me up and asked me, "why didn't you go to the 20 yr. reunion?" I replied, "Oh, I couldn't but I got the pics!" I remembered one pic imparticular of her (somewhat) floating atop an air matress. She is currently the size of a small home. Hehhehe.

I was in a jewelry store this past weekend to have some links removed from a watch that I was given as a gift this past spring but kept forgeting to bring in. The watch was huge on me. After the jeweler took out about 2-3 large links, checks the fit(which was perfect) he hads me an envelope with the removed links and says "hold on to these in case it(the watch) shrinks". I was so offended....helloo SHRINK?!

I'll NEVER set foot in that store again!

ViolinJenn - would you have preferred him to say "Hang onto these in case you ever gain a bunch of weight"? Of course that is what he was referring to, but all jewelers will give you back the watch links....they aren't trying to imply that you're going to gain weight, just that you may need them at some point in time.
Extra watch links come in handy if one or two ever get badly scratched as well.

I obviously wasn't there and maybe his attitude was different, but he was probably just trying to be friendly....he was a man and men sometimes say the most idiotic things while trying to be funny/friendly.

For example....my husband said that I had "adorable pudgy piggies" last night while referring to my swollen feet. Sure, it was completely the wrong thing to say but I knew that he was just trying to be funny. Not that I didn't kick him out of the bedroom for awhile
