Hi sznn, don't feel bad, I've had those same 3-5 lb. gains too since reaching maintenance and had to buckle back down and get serious too. I'm trying to look at this new maintenance period as a Trial period to see how my body is adjusting to a set weight. It does fluctuate a little and can be very scary for me. I think the difference for me this time, is that I still weigh myself quite often and take care of any gains promptly instead of letting it get out of hand like I did before.

Lilybelle - thanks, I am trying to drop below 140 so when I do bounce around those 5 or so pounds I won't feel so huge.
I weigh in every morning - when it creeps up sometimes I still have day after day of sliding off the wagon.
It scares me cause I really DO NOT want to gain it back.

One day at a time - and the support from wonderful people on this site.
Thanks again.

You are very welcome. I have been trying to drop below 140 too, because it scares me too much when I gain and see I am back at my goal weight. Last week I saw 146 again for the first time in 3 months, I buckled down, ate really well and drank all my water and lost back to 140. I knew I was retaining fluid, but scary nonetheless. It's funny how just a few lbs. will make me feel so much bigger now, when before I could gain a lot and not even notice it. If my jeans get the least bit tight, I know that I have to be very careful . The last thing on earth that I ever want is to regain this weight. I hate to feel obsessive with it, but I feel that I must stay very conscious of it.

4rabbit, Hi. I notice that when my foot is to the side that I can move my toes now. When it is straight I can't move them. This is still better than no movement at all. From what the neurologist said, 2 separate nerves were involved. I think one of them is returning sensation and the other isn't yet. I am hopeful that they will both get back feeling. I am getting around pretty well with the new brace. When I scratch my leg on the outside of my knee or the inside of my foot, I feel that tingly nerve sensation now. I think this is good news.

4rabbit, Thanks. I think I'm making progress.
3 months now on maintenance and I'm very happy. My weight is being controlled and my smaller clothes still fit. Yeah, I don't think I've ever kept weight off this long. (Sad, I know). Thanks everyone for the inspiration. I get up everyday and plan my food in such a way to maintain. It feels good and feels like this is how I will continue my life. I mowed my yard yesterday and it felt great to have the energy to do this. I'm not sleeping near as much as I used to. I just plain feel better.

Hi All

So glad you are doing better with the foot Lilly you really had a scare.

Things are going well here, involved a little too much but it happens.
Need to relearn say no. Maintence is good here. I am actually at my happy weight. It is easy right now, and I am appreciating that. I need to remember it is sometimes easy and just flows.

Rabbit: Hope you have a good weekend.

Take care

Thanks Gina,
Just when I thought all was going good, have another problem. A dog my DH borrowed to breed with our Chocolate Lab. got a hold of my new leg brace and did some chewing on it last night. I guess I will take it to the Orthotics place this week and see if it is salvageable. I sure hope so. I can't use it right now with all the rough edges from doggie teeth. I sure hope I don't have to get another one, that would be expensive. I know insurance won't pay to replace it. He also chewed up everything else in site, including 2 hats, 2 different shoes, a motorcycle jacket of my sons, some stuffed animals of my grandsons. He just had a field day while we were asleep last night and he was only inside for 4 hrs. He is now safely in the back, fenced yard. Grrrrrrrrr.

Well, I was happy to hear the good news about your foot, Lily. Sorry to hear about the dog. I'd really rethink breeding a dog that behaves like that--you're likely to get a houseful of puppies that do the same, and even the best puppies are terrible chewers.

Gina, hooray for the happy weight!

My life is getting back to normal after the last couple weeks of craziness. I've had DD's 1st birthday with a house full of grandparents for a week, followed by a big race I've been training for all summer, and then a monster week at work. Last night DH and I got a babysitter and went out for dinner and a movie, an exercise he clearly hated, but I enjoyed. My weight is where I left it, after two weeks of seriously eating off plan, and I feel pretty lucky about that. I left it about 2 lbs up from the weight on my ticker, which is well within normal fluctuation for me.

I did notice that my off plan eating was all done with joy and not compulsion, and portions were reasonable. Fancy French food on the date, yummy once in a lifetime chocolate birthday cake, good home-cooked food with my parents, carbo-loading and race food (gatorade, gels) for the race. I think I was so busy even though my choices were in some sense not optimal, portion control never got away from me and it ended up OK. I'll have to think on this one.

Anne

Anne, I had forgotten how bad young labs are to chew. This borrowed male is only 18 months old and mine did the same thing when she was younger, but she doesn't do it anymore. We only plan on keeping one female for our son, the females are much less hyper. She has had one previous litter, 14 of them, and we didn't keep any. I already have a lot of orders for them. This will be her last litter.. She comes from a long line of seeing eye dogs and that is why I get so many orders for her blood line. 2 of her previous pups are with our local law enforcement as trained "drug sniffing" dogs. Anyway, I hope she has another good litter.

It looks like you are doing great with the wt. Congrat's on your babies first Birthday. Chocolate Cake, Yummy. That is a weakness of mine, but I have done well with all the birthdays and allowed myself only 1 small piece and that was it. I plan for 1 piece of dessert on Thanksgiving and Christmas this yr. the same as I did last yr. The date night sounds fun, we plan on having one next weekend if my DH can get some time off of work.

Hi all! Lily - Just looked at your before/current pix and left a msg. Wow wow wow! That is so inspiring! Thanks for posting! October's going well; I've been MIA too - busy training and training me too! Anne - congrats on the triathlon; just that you did it is such an accomplishment. I used to run 5Ks, but knees just can't do it no mo'. I'm living vicariously through the rest of you who do all these cool things. Since May"ish" 2005, have slowly creeped up 7 pounds, so need to get those OFF! So I have a really good incentive, which is that I have a book coming out soon about the weight loss/maintenance story (never saw much out there about maintainers - have any of you?), so I need to be as fit as a 58 yr. old woman can be!(?) So goal is to get 7# down by mid-November and I just got back from a weight training and cardio session. Thanks Meg, for the 60-90 min. reminder - So hard sometimes, but important. And thanks all for being here - what a joy to log in and find this gem of a site.

Miche, Thank you so much.
Let us know when the book is out and where we can get it. I'd like to read it. Congrat's on finishing the book. I am in the process of writing a book that will include a lot about my childhood, marital problems, chronic illness and struggle with weight to regain my health . Don't know if I'll ever finish it or not, but my main goal is to leave it for my family to read.

Hi maintainers,

Very good nes from the divorce front.. Yesterday Me & my lawyer had a meeting with XH and his lawyer AND managed to get through some agreements on a settlement. I get to buy XHs part of the house for a decent price, so we can stay here ! I'm SO glad. I'm still dizzy about it. After 1 year of divorce problems it is really strange to have all this much sorted out all of a sudden.

I'm now busy figuring out where I stand fincancially, to study ssome financing options.

Have a great day all,
rabbit

It seems to be taking a long time for us to see how our finances will pan out (since our move) too. I'm anxious because I'd like to get better at budgetting and can't yet because our new bills and usages aren't here yet. But it's a new month so the bills should start rolling in any time now. Seems funny to say that I'm looking forward to bills coming.

More on topic ... I am maintaining. I was pretty surprised to step on the scale this morning and have it still say 131. Especially since my early morning surprise was TOM.
The bad news about that is that it's several pounds too heavy. The good news is that it took no effort. And I mean none!
In theory then ... any effort should mean a drop.
