So, I'm wondering--is a bladder infection directly related to last week's colonoscopy or colonoscopy prep? I did the prep Thursday afternoon and beginning Friday my urine was very cloudy. At first I thought it was due to the meds I was to take for the prep, but here I am a week later--still with cloudy urine. And I have that "full" feeling all the time. No burning, thank goodness, but the constant feeling that I have to go. So off to urgent care this morning (what a fun thing to sit there for over an hour with that urgent need to go). Yep, bladder infection (complete with a slight fever that I wasn't aware of). Two meds and copious amounts of cranberry juice as I don't relish the idea of a 10 hour car ride in this condition.
Exercise was fine this morning even though I kept thinking that I should just skip it because of the gnawing feeling that I had a UTI. Glad I did it though.
Alinnell--the UTI might or might not be related to the colonoscopy stuff, but it does seem likely. In any case, good for you for getting it seen to. Hope that 10-hour ride goes OK.
I'm going to start my new workout routine on Monday, and having looked at the program, I am somewhat intimidated. As usual, these programs are really designed for people half my age. I guess I'll just have to take it easy to start. I can't afford injuries or joint flare-ups.
I had a slip up last weekend with too much pie, but got back on track and am still at 149. No loss, but no gain either. I think if I can keep it in check this weekend I will be on track for 148 by next Friday. Yay!
Next Friday I'm taking the day off work since I'm bumping up against my vacation accrual limit, so I think we'll go to the state fair. The state fair has a lot of different unhealthy food, but honestly my stomach is just not big enough to eat more than one or two items, so I think it'll be okay. There's also a lot of walking at the fair!
One of my coworkers (who had kids around the same time as me) said I'm looking thinner, so I guess it's paying off. That counteracts the woman asking if I was pregnant a few weeks ago.
JayEll, I've done intermittent HIIT for a few years now. Don't be intimidated- not sure what your book recommends, but you can do HIIT routines with ANY form of cardio, not just high-impact stuff. My favorite HIIT is on an elliptical trainer or a stationary bike, because they're very low impact and I can totally regulate the speed and duration (unlike a treadmill, where it takes some seconds to get it to go a lot faster or slower). You can even do HIIT with swimming, if you can get to a pool.
Andrea, this workout program includes interval cardio workouts and weights/calisthenics workouts, by alternating days. It's the latter that have me intimidated. I guarantee that no burpees will be done. Nor any jumping pull-ups.
paperclippy, how was the state fair?
alinnell, how did the drive go?
OK, all you lurkers, let's hear from you. You know who you are.
Today we took advantage of the "cooler" and dryer weather and were out golfing by 6:30. Good game, not as good as the last time but I did well. Always fun.
Weight was up .6 but it is the weekend. Food okay. I got in an "extra" breakfast as we had nothing more than a protein bar for breakfast and had a homemade egg mcmuffin once we were back home.
Hi all, hope everyone's weekend was good. Jessica, congrats on maintaining a loss despite pie, that's great!
I didn't do so well on eating this weekend, I let stress get to me and, well, yeah. I'm now in the situation of having to apply for the new position and "go up" for reappointment at the same time. Both are involved procedures that unfortunately require some of the same people being references for both. And I don't want current job to know about my application for new job.
But it's all small potatoes; I need to remember that. My husband's week emphasizes how fortunate I am to have these non-problems: first one of his friends called to say that his wife is divorcing him out of the blue; then another close friend just called to say he's been diagnosed with a really crappy kind of cancer. He's in his early 40's with two small children.
Stopping by in this thread to offer condolences to Allison. I'm sorry for your loss.
On & off, I've been thinking of some sad and stressful things that have happened to my direct reports at work and my friends and within my family over the summer. Who ever created the myth that summer was an easy, carefree time? Was it all those cola and suntan lotion advertisements with kids playing volleyball on the beach? It often isn't, and we probably each think we're the only ones and everyone else is having that other kind of summer.
Summers were just different. They weren't necessarily fun.
I did the first workout of my new program today. It was strenuous, as advertised, but not impossible for me. It consisted of squats, push presses, and deadlift high pulls. I used light weights just to see how it went. My legs felt like spaghetti afterward, but now they are feeling better. I'm interested to see how this first week goes.
Tomorrow I go in to the dentist to have a crown put on. I've been putting this off for a couple of years, but I don't dare let it go any longer.
The carefree summer comes from youth and being out of school, I think. Summer has never been particularly carefree for me as an adult, not once.
Jay - I'm fascinated by your program. I need short, and I respond well to intense.
I fell apart last week over some personal stress so didn't exercise at all. Last 'workout' was mowing my lawn on Saturday 8/1, and I had not exercised the two days before that. The stress I was working on was all of my own making, and I'll be able to get out from under it with some work, but I let it make me physically ill which made me eat whatever stayed down and not work out. I have to get back on track. I exercised today, and it felt good. Food has been not so great today - I had one serving of leftover ice cream from the freezer for breakfast - but I threw the rest away and weighed what I ate. I'm going to call that a win.
I upped the weight on most of my exercises yesterday (was doing a combo of 10 and 15 pounds, all were 15 except the 3 pounder I use for my rotator cuff exercise). It was hard but it felt good.
I had every intention of repeating it today but ended up sleeping in. DD and SIL came for dinner last night and afterward we had a rousing game of Words Against Humanity and we stayed up way past my bedtime so the extra sleep was welcomed.
Food okay for the most part. I made a really good stromboli last night and everyone loved it. Weight up, but I blame that on my choice of beverages last night and the fact that I haven't been "regular" since my colonoscopy.
Gosh, Shannon, sounds like you're going through or have gone through some heavy times. I hope you're working out of it.
Today was day two of the new program, and it consisted of interval cardio. 30 seconds at 80% of capacity, 30 seconds at 30%, for 20-24 rounds. No rest in between. I almost went as much distance as during my usual cardio, but I was sweating like mad by the end--something usual cardio doesn't do for me anymore.
My thighs are terrifically sore today from Monday's squats etc. Argh! Been trying to roll them out. More exciting thigh work tomorrow...
Shannon, my first workout with the weights was all done in about 18 minutes. I think this is do-able in any schedule.
alinnell, do you do different exercise on consecutive days?
JZJ, that sounds like a touchy position to be in... may it all go smoothly for you, whichever direction.
Getting the work done for my new crown took 2 hours. It's a wisdom tooth in the back, and they had trouble getting a mold. But, I have the temp crown on now, and will get the permanent one in a few weeks. I decided to get gold.
