Dagmar, thanks! They (the shelter and the rescue) have changed her breed description pretty much every time I talk to them, but I'm thinking shepherd-sharpei...
Sorry to hear about the new frustration with your DH. I do agree with those who said he'll look better to potential employers if he is currently employed and if he has a stable employment history - though it sounds like he's already made a decision.
Megan, no dog-napping necessary - you could adopt her! I'm trying to convince a friend of mine to take her. His dog passed away about 6 months ago and I think he'd love her, but not sure if he's ready.
Michele, I'll be interested to hear if your DH tried bikram and what he thinks of it!
saef, my family also never ate ethnic-type foods or went out to eat much. My parents are still skeptical when I cook for them and make something Asian/Mexican/etc. inspired, but I think they just never tried it and got used to it.
My BF had to go for jury duty today. He gets $12 for the whole day (9-5) and they don't validate parking - which means he ends up with nothing. Nor does his work give him this day as paid time off. I've been lucky enough to have escaped jury duty thus far in my life (knock on wood!) but that's just frustrating. Losing a days pay is a real hardship for a lot of people.
Gary, I did see that! I went to a different Claremont College, not CMC, but it was still surprising.
Saef, it's funny because my family went out to eat at ethnic restaurants all the time (at least once a week). DH's family almost never went out and almost never ate ethnic food -- probably because back in the 80's there wasn't much ethnic food in Indy. Luckily that has changed in recent years. In any case I remember going with him for Thai food when we were in college and being shocked that he had never eaten Thai food before. Luckily he is an adventurous eater. His brother, on the other hand, only ever wants steak, potatoes, and PB&J.
Allison, don't freak out, the Claremont colleges are all independently run. Just because CMC had a problem doesn't mean the other schools did! CGU is a separate school, it's not part of CMC (as far as I know).

According to Wikipedia, Claremont Colleges include: Pomona College, Scripps College, Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College and Pitzer College. And the graduate universities are: Claremont Graduate University and Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences.
But you're right. The article only talked about CMC--not necessarily the others.
JESSICA I did remember where you went! I did realize it was only CMC.
ALLISON yep, there are several colleges there. A great place to have track meets and tennis matches....that's all I know about the places from when my kid's teams played against some of them.
Whew! Thanks for all the comments regarding my situation with DH. I'm staying with him more for practical considerations right now. And to fill the loneliness that would be my life without him. I keep trying various different social things with various people but nothing seems to produce any lasting effects. I do try to follow up with people and call them and arrange outings.
I keep wondering what is so weird about me that people keep rejecting me. But apparently Toronto is known as "The Big Lonely" to many other people in Ontario. So it's not necessarily me. SIGH. And we are all such workaholics here - everyone is too beat to do anything during the week.
I haven't tried anything at a church Gary. I am totally not religious but, as you say, that might not make such a difference. I will keep an eye on the notice board outside a church I pass every day. If they advertise something social I'll go!
And finally, the bad dog. I had to hunt down Max the poodle for over an hour on the boardwalk today. I stopped her from doing something totally disgusting with an on-leash time out. As soon as I released her she took off running. I tried to run after her but had to come back to my two seniors who were falling further and further behind as I sprinted after Max (who left me in the dust - literally). Running is best done when one is NOT wearing a parka, snowpants, and hiking boots.
I did finally find her and she was unharmed. I was so anxious I went home and after I dropped her off. Then I had a good cry and a long, long hot shower. Thank goodness DH is at work tonite - he sent me two extremely hurtful and rude emails and I don't need any more face to face emotional upheaval tonite.
In the past I would have burned through two whole packages of cookies by now. I'm not going to binge - no idea why but I know when I'm not going to do it and this is one of those times.
Sometimes I really think I'm losing my mind . And maybe that's not such a bad thing
Dagmar, all I can tell you about is my church. Like I mentioned, the gals meet once or twice a month for their book club...sometimes more. They make the rules as they go. Angie used to do it and loved it, but didn't want to give up our date night for it. The girls meet at one of the house we own as a church or in the new building rooms which are very nice. They meet, eat a little drink a little and talk about the book or whatever...no "church" stuff just fellowship between the ladies.
We also have groups of seniors that take a bus to Vegas once or twice a year. Most of the things we do can be done as singles or couples. We have wine tasting nights, etc.
Most of these things we have a prayer before we eat but that is the end of the "church" stuff.
We have basketball games on Friday nights in the gym that the public is invited to. Last Friday there was about 75 kids and parents and singles in the gym watching Toy Story 3 on a big screen and having free pizza, burgers and hot dogs. My sister went with her grandson and visited with the adults, just enjoying the evening out with someone besides her dh....
and he was fine all alone for the evening!! lol
When I mention these things to you keep in mind I am "pushing" you towards a desire for the fellowship with others you are looking for....not for the religion..
now...if you want to talk about that!!! lol....PM me anytime!
Drive by this AM. Once again I was up in the middle of the night unable to sleep last night. This is getting old! I've got too much going on to be tired. I'm excited bc I lost 4 lbs in January! But I'm also experiencing some diet fatigue or something - maybe just breakfast fatigue? This morning I finally dumped a bunch of protein powder in my oatmeal to try and keep me full a little longer. I've been very hungry over the last week and breakfast just isn't cutting it.
BF's appointment with the dermatologist wasn't too bad. The PA took one biopsy off BF's ear. She froze a bunch of "pre-cancerous" stuff off his face and hands, but didn't act like it was a huge deal. We have to wait and hear about the biopsy results but hey, if they need to chop part of an ear off, oh well. BF was joking about looking like Spock last night.
Dagmar, I'm sending you lots of mental and positive thoughts. We are all your friends, here for you and wanting what is best for you. Bad husband! Bad dog! (Said in Ceasar Milan's calm-assertive voice.)
I've gotta run. Hope everyone has a good Wednesday.
Losing part of an ear isn't so bad. Don't ask how I know this.
Oh, that's funny!
Not that skin cancer is funny, though. Hope the biopsy turns out okay for BF, Megan.
Me, on the other hand, had a very, very good night's sleep. I didn't think I would because we went to sleep so early. DH and I ran out of shows to watch so turned in at 8 PM and read for a while. He dozed off by 8:30 so I told him to go to sleep (which means he has to get up and take off his contacts). Shortly thereafter I finished my chapter, so I went to sleep as well. Due to the early turn in time, and extra water after dinner, i was up at 11 PM for a bathroom break and thought to myself, I've been sleeping for a couple of hours and DS is probably still up at his computer! Got back to sleep and slept soundly until 4:30 AM (a strange dream about George Clooney didn't hurt the situation).
