I don't get this. Why wouldn't you just continue to eat whole foods, but more quantity?

I wanted to ask the same question! I'd be busting out the good cheese in this situation .

Matt, I think I can relate to some of this. When I started losing weight, I didn't even set a goal. (I was trying not to become insane, the way I did the first time I lost weight successfully, years ago, when 107 seemed too high & I weighed myself twice daily, in the morning & in the evenings.) The goal was: "Less than last Friday when you last stood on the scale." Just less, less, and less, and less. As long as it went lower, I was happy. No ticker. No short-term goals. No long-term goal.

It was only when I'd lost about 75 pounds & felt assured of my success & felt I could shape my body to some degree that I started trying to pick a number. I went to the BMI charts for it. I set it at the highest for my height, again, to avoid reverting to becoming again an insane woman who had to be as thin as possible to live out her dreams.

I'm not too set on it now. I'm a little fascinated at the fluctuations. I don't always understand them. I do have a redline high weight. I don't seem to have to worry about a redline low weight. I don't have the old anorectic impulses from years back.

But it would make sense that I'd do it this way & think this way, given my past history & my efforts to avoid obsessing on a Lotto number (which is how I see it, as a form of magical thinking & wish-fulfillment, being a number which, once achieved, means you've hit the jackpot & now your good life can start).

JayEll - More whole foods won't make me gain, they are so filling, there is no way i could eat that much. I wish it were that easy.
