I will stay on plan today...I WILL stay on plan....
I've been having trouble recently with snacking. Not to the point where I've had any gains yet, but if I keep going, it'll happen. I can't remember a time when I didn't run to the back at work for a few chips, a cookie or some chewy candy. I allow myself a sugar-free peppermint after I drink coffee and have breakfast, but that should be ALL.
It hasn't been, but should be.
So today - NO MORE SNACKING. I WILL have one completely ON PLAN day for the first time in MONTHS.
Just putting this out there for accountability purposes. I can do this...
My calories for today are pretty tight due to a larger than normal dinner, so I don't have a ton of room to spare.
Then we win a big company-wide contest, and what do my co-workers want to do to celebrate our hard work and win (of a cash prize no less)? Eat. They want to go out to eat at a new restaurant (no calorie counts) and splurge on steak and stuff.
I'm not opposed to going out to eat, but I plan these things into my day/week accordingly. Spur of the moment, especially with unknown calorie values, doesn't work for me anymore.
Why is it that "celebration" has to mean "stuff yourself"?
There's no sensible at lunch. I found a menu online, and no healthy options. Fried, fried, bread and fried. I'd do a small steak but I don't do steak. Dinner's already cooking at home (crock pot is a live saver!). Guess I'm no going with them to celebrate...just makes me the "party pooper" if you will.
You MUST write it down BEFORE it goes into your mouth. You MUST write it down BEFORE it goes into your mouth. You MUST write it down BEFORE it goes into your mouth.
But you have to really, really commit to it - like in no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT - NO EXCEPTIONS... Works like a charm - give it a try.
See, that's the problem Robin..I AM journaling. I know every single on plan thing I'm eating today, and the calories I'm taking in to the very weight of the potatoes I'm planning to eat with supper tonight.
It's the little things...like the three bowls of candy and packages of Oreos and potato chips between my desk and the bathroom and/or the water cooler here at work. It's the little handful of oyster crackers that I'm crushing up to make my lunch at home, or the bag of chips on top of the fridge by where we keep the bananas.
I guess it's THAT stuff I've got to start journaling or stop myself from eating because they're NOT included in my day. It's just hard because in my mind I'm thinking "It's ok - you're not gaining!" But I know if I let it go NOW I will get to that point later because the little handful of crackers will edge on in to two, then three, then screw it all and eat the whole package.
Yesterday wasn't the day. TODAY will be....I'll keep telling myself until it's true.. .
If you're taking the approach of journaling what you eat, you really do need to list everything. It doesn't do much good to plan down to the weight of the potatoes if you're going to eat those other things and not count them. You'll never really know where you're at.
I don't take the journaling approach myself these days, and I have to admit that it's lots easier to "sneak" foods in and "forget" about them if one isn't counting.
I was thinking the same thing in Jay - when you journal the foods that you eat - in order for it to be effective, you must journal ALL the foods that you eat.
So let me repeat -
Quote:
You MUST write it down BEFORE it goes into your mouth. You MUST write it down BEFORE it goes into your mouth. You MUST write it down BEFORE it goes into your mouth.
But you have to really, really commit to it - like in no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT - NO EXCEPTIONS... Works like a charm - give it a try.
And let me add - every bite, lick, taste, crumb or sip...
In doesn't go into your mouth until it's entered in your journal.
Mindi, I've done exactly what you've done - and I'm telling you, this method works beautifully.. Stop resisting it. You will be thrilled and relieved with the results...
I think I need to try this method,
but am feeling a little embarrassed about doing it in front of other people.
How do you handle that aspect?
When I feel embarrased about sharing something, I do it privately.
I don't perform my bathroom functions in public,
and I can always find a way to do other personal things privately as well.
