Welcome Kim!

I used to run, but my knees won't let me anymore. I mostly lift weights, and use either the elliptical (easier on my knees) or the treadmill. I also swim and when the weather gets nicer I'll be riding my bike outside.

Marie - my bike is red too! And until the end of last summer my only choice was to load up the bike and go into town to ride. But we just had 2 summers with the whole main road to town torn up and redone. Now we have a lovely new road AND a paved bike trail into town where it joins up with the ones there. I can't wait to use it, but alas, it's still covered with snow and ice.

I've been under the weather yesterday and today - headache and my whole body ached. TOday was a little better, and finally, at 10:30 pm, my headache is gone. I think I'll be able to workout tomorrow. Who knows where I am in my schedule. I think on upper body

DH went out last night, after I went to bed, and bought snacks.

Bananas and apples snacks!!! I think he's finally ready to get serious.

Good morning all,

My workout yesterday made me sooo happy. Gotta love the endorphin rush. I did HIIT and core/abs, and I swear my stomach is firmer and the pudge is moving, I swear it. Rehearsal ended early so I actually got to go home and do dishes and clean the fishtank so I felt like a productive human being, too. Plans for the weekend: benchpress workout with Tim tomorrow morning, maybe stop by a cookoff my friends are competing in, baby shower in the afternoon, then hang out w/ some of BF's family that are in town, Sunday some gardening and learning my lines for Act 2. Kind of busy Saturday... but not too bad.

Shannon, good luck on your half marathon! I'll be cheering for you! I hope the weather cooperates.

Dagmar, glad DH got some healthy snacks!

Pat, I hope you feel better. How nice to have a new bike path! We just had our bike path lengthened and it is sooo nice.

Kim, I love doing heavy weights for leg exercises, too. It's my favorite body part to work out. How funny your colleague didn't even recognize you even after you told him who you were.

Meg, I hope you're having fun on your vacation!

Hi everyone else! What are everyone's plans for the weekend?

Kim, I had DH disconnect the front brake of my bike because I was yanking it and that was what threw me over the handlebars the last time. The other ER visit was because I thought I could jump a curb, coming down a hill and hitting the curb at an angle. Not very bright. The front wheel made it, the back on didn’t as I bet all of you could picture. It was that accident that my family renamed my bike.

Megan, I think you think you handled the GAFF girl incident pretty darn well. When you say field work, what do you do?

Shannon I hope it doesn’t rain on you Sunday. That would make for a miserable 13 miles.

Kim, sumo squats just sound wrong, especially with 100 pounds. Your story about the old colleague was funny. I can’t say I’d blame him since you’re nearly half the size. Way amazing!

Pat, I have bike path envy. Even if it’s under snow. You know it’s there and will be appearing soon. I hope you stay feeling better.

Dagmar, WOW – DH is catching on. That is awesome.

I actually did weights yesterday. I went to the exercise part of 3FC and read one of the stickies. Mel had posted a link to some weight training descriptions and videos. I chose several, watched the videos and DID them. It wasn’t even horrible. Now to do it again in a couple days. J

Thanks everyone! I am fantastically nervous at this point, I must admit. Went to pick up my race packet yesterday at the Health & Fitness Expo. It was a little quiet, most people will probably go today. Rain jackets and shirts were selling like crazy! I saw one that I desperately wanted, but it was $100 and they didn't have my size - didn't want to pay that much for the large size.... 2.5 ounces, thin - almost sheer, actually - wind and rain resistant pullover that can squish down in your pocket to the size of a superball. Sadly, I can't find the card with the brand and make info - Brooks maybe? I felt very much like a kid in a candy store at the expo - clothes, shoes, fitness accessories, ads for other marathons, things that were seriously talking to me... The temperature prediction has gone from 37 to 55, with the rain expected to start after 10. Ideally, I will be done with the running part by then.

ETA - I feel like I haven't done much exercise at all since Monday, but when I look back I've done an hour-ish every day, 1.5 yesterday. Lighter activity, but still activity. A little over a year ago I would have been ecstatic at that much consistent exercise. Funny that now it doesn't seem quite good enough.

Shannon, I'm glad the forecast is slightly improving. You're going to do great. It is amazing how our perspectives have changed along this journey.

So I'm going to do the weights again today. Truly I think a root canal would be more fun but... maybe there will be a time I will like it. I'm hoping when I see a little more muscle definition. That would give more meaning to the workout.

I avoided weights for years. When I finally took the plunge and hired the trainer I was amazed by how much definition I got in only 4 weeks. And I'm not a major weight lifter - just 30 minutes 2x per week and 1 hour on the weekend. Totally worth it Marie!

Shannon, by my reckoning it's early morning in the US. Thinking of you & sending good vibes. Go Girl!

Rabbit (sleepy & tired, just arrived from the far east where it now would be late in the evening)

Dagmar, you are giving me hope that the weights will be worth it. Definition, as well as strong bones, is a good motivator no matter how I don’t like it. I will like when my surgeries have recovered more so that I can push to muscle exhaustion but for now, just getting started is better than procrastinating.

Shannon, I’m betting your run is done and I thought of you all morning. I hope it was great!!!!! And that the weather cooperated.

I just had the joy of shopping at Victoria secrets dot com for a new swimsuit of two. Two days after surgery, I woke up and said to DH (who was still sleeping) “I could wear a bikini for the first time in my life”. Keep in mind I have my own pool and I am in my late 40’s so it’s not a public suit, but I bought a bikini top and bottom, tankini and a higher waist bottom. All interchangeable. I also found two sweaters on clearance that are adorable. I have always loved their sweaters (OK not the risqué ones) and it was cool to buy smalls. Life is so fun.
