Lily - you can DEFINITELY eat natural PB on SBD! I think it is even a phase 1 food. All nuts are allowed, he just limits the quantity because of calories. Also if you have the original book there have been changes to the diet since then. On the SBD (pay) site the diet now includes milk in phase 1 and 2.

This is my overall feeling on SBD...For one I think it saved my life because it got me over insulin resistance and it taught me a whole new way to look at food and meal planning. I no longer think of the starch first or second in a meal...it is kind of an afterthought. And when I do think about starches I prefer the ezekiel breads and the whole grain stuff.

I think that phase 1, as unbalanced as it is, is important just as what it is meant for, an induction and kind of a mini cleansing ...because when you have gotten rid of all fruit and starch for 2 weeks then you feel so free when you get to add limited amounts back in.

However I do not follow SBD NOW. I followed it long enough to where it became second nature to reach for the lower glycemic items first over the higher glycemic items. But I guess you would say I am in Phase 3 where there is NO food off limit, just realizing that some foods may affect your blood sugar more and they should be limited. Plus I dont believe in artificial sweeteners so I always was different there. Since your weight is in maintenance, I would think that you could progress fairly quickly. I would give Phase 2 enough time that it seems normal to eat that way and combine it with calorie counting (I HAD to calorie count with SBD, I didnt lose weight with just SBD) and then you can strategically add in the stuff you love. You may be surprised at how much less you crave though.

I would say that my diet is 80% SBD and 20% whatever.

Ughh, I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to eat that bowl of Oat Bran Flakes with skim milk this morning or the FF yogurt that I ate yesterday. I hadn't gotten that far in the dang book yet. Oh well, now I finally found a total list of induction foods so maybe I can stick with the plan better now.

thanks robin, Like you, I do find my wt. drops very quickly when I limit the carbs. Plus, I go up quickly when I add the carbs. Hmmmmmmn, maybe I should just leave them alone. I bet it's nice to get to have a weekend at home after being gone for 9 weekends. I don't like to go that much and it would have been a weight killer for me.

ennay, I did see today that I can have PB. I was so happy. I'm also glad to see milk on the list. I always use skim milk, so looks like I'm good to go on that. I will definitely move on to Phase 2 after this 2 weeks of induction are done. I was surprised to find out that I can have beans even now. I had so done without any beans on Atkins and DH loves them and wants them almost with every dinner. Plus, glad to see I can eat LF cottage cheese.

Even though the book says it isn't necessary to log calories, I am logging mine anyway. I don't want to go overboard with the meat and cheese. Right now, I'm averaging 1400 cal's a day since starting this plan. I can't say that I'm starving , but I'm not totally satisfied with my food choices with this induction. The 2 week meal plan the book has listed is simply not the way I eat. BTW, I Hate salmon, so I chose some tilapia fillets to cook instead. I guess any type of fish is OK as long as it isn't battered and fried. I sure wish I wasn't allergic to shellfish, or I'd be stocking up on crab legs.

ennay, I'm glad you mentioned the bread type cause after induction, I wanted to know what bread to buy.

Thanks, Lily. I really am going to try to post more! It's always so much more fun to join in. I really think SB sounds like a good plan for you to follow. Maybe you won't have to stick to it religiously, but follow it as a general guideline to keep your blood sugar in check. Maybe not having so many carbs will also keep you from being so munchie. Boy, I am a carb lover too and I really notice that when I eat, say, a handful of Wheat Thins or something like that, it really puts my appetite in overdrive. I want to get the book and start reading up on it too because I think I focus too much on carbs and not enough on protein and healthy fats. My sister-in-law was just diagnosed with prediabetis and her doctor wants her to follow SB.

Anyway, hello to everyone else too! I worked out yesterday and again this morning and feel really sore. It's a good sore, though, because I feel like I did something good for my muscles. I wish I could get the scale to go back down to 138. I'm trying, but going to Soup or Salad didn't help yesterday. I load up on the greens but then can't resist the blue cheese dressing. Then I had two small desserts (low-fat ice cream with chopped peanuts my favorite!) and some strawberries with whipped cream. Those buffet places are not the best for me because they don't limit your portions. When eating out, I've discovered, I do better at a place where I can order something healthy, and then am limited to eating just that. Oh well. Today should be easier.

I mentioned that my husband and I are opening a business. One Sunday a month we meet with all the other Franchisee owners. The meeting usually lasts from 12-4, so that will keep me out of the kitchen today!

Congrats on the weight loss, Gary. That's such a cool feeling to win the battle with the scale.

Have a nice Sunday everyone!

Pam

Lily, good luck with SB. I never could stand any restrictions, so I always just did my own thing. Of course, I'm really lucky in that I don't have any blood sugar issues whatsoever, so I eat a LOT of carbs, mostly of the unrefined variety.

Oh, DH is home with DD from the grocery store. It is like Christmas. Wonder what they got.

Pam~how wonderful your son is graduating! A gift? Wow, that would be hard! My daughter wants to do a double major--music education and computer programming (probably either gaming design or web design or a combination of the two). She really wants a job in computers, but needs to keep the music thing going because that is most likely going to get her some scholarships.

Gary~yes, USC would be great with the marching band! One of Dana's friends who graduated last year is a baton twirler for USC this year. That was her goal since she was a little girl.

Lily~I hear you with the restrictions! That is one reason why I've never done well on any diet--I hate having people tell me what I can and cannot eat! Superfoods is a good book and I try to follow some of it's principles, but mainly calorie counting is best for me.

So Anne~what did you get from the market? Wow, I wish my DH would do the shopping!

Pam, it does seem like once I get past the induction phase, maybe this won't be so bad. If it weren't for the blood sugar issue, I wouldn't even be trying it. I do try to follow my Dr.'s advice.

Anne, I can't send DH to buy groceries. He comes home with tons of Hamburger Helper, Chocolate covered breakfast bars and potato chips.

Allison, I'm not very good at restricting myself, so it kinda helps me to have it spelled out what I should and should not eat. I tend to overeat or undereat and don't have a happy medium.

I just had my lunch. I ate a celery stock with Peanut Butter, a celery stock with Laughing Cow cheese and 2 slices of turkey breast. I'm full for now. I am definitely eating my snacks, otherwise I'd be starving.

I make an extraordinarily detailed list when DH goes to the store alone. You'd think after 10 years he'd know what kind of yogurt I eat right? You'd think. Alas, it is not to be. He did a great job this morning, the right kinds of coffee, apples, pears, bananas, vegetables, lt ww bread, etc, etc. He also got some kind of fancy pop-tarts for himself.

I survived a big IKEA trip. I LOVE that store. Christmas I tell you.

Well I weighed in this morning at 185, right at goal, that bonus pound disappeared And I was so good yesterday! I had oatmeal for breakfast, some light weight Progresso soup for lunch, carrots and grapes for a snack. Angie was still at our sister in law's for dinner so I made hot dogs. I used the Hebrew National 50 cal ones. I had 2 on whole wheat tortillas with a piece of cheese....and 1 without anything, stayed away from any kind of chips and had a little cantaloupe. Oh well...that's life!

Angie and I walked the dogs for 3.25 miles before church today, then later this afternoon I did 3.25 miles plus some weights. I figure I better add some weight training to the mix to keep progressing! We have a really nice weight machine that pretty much collects dust since my son and daughter married and moved out. Angie used to use it a lot but now it's pretty much just walk/run and yoga.

Had a great church service, Rememberance of 9-11, and BBQ today. There were quite a few firemen, police and servicemen there. We have members from our congregation that have lost their lives in Iraq. Always a great turn-out. So sad that we HAVE to remember that day.

LILY ~ Yea, I was only spanked a couple of times too...but I knew it could happen at anytime! My mom used to wear flip-flops, used to be called thongs, and boy could she whip either one off and WHACK on the back of the leg! Four of us kids, we'd try to go by her on either side but she was a SWITCH hitter and good! Whack! ~ Whack! Fast hands ~ real fast Good luck with the new menu.

ALLISON ~ I am sure Dana will like where ever she ends up.

ANNE ~ Hope it was good stuff!

PAM ~ Thanks. My son and daughter finished college the same year, my son had an extra year because of the teaching credential program, he had his degree but wanted to walk with all of his credential friends (which he actually didn't do because it ended up being at the same exact time as his sister's...he gave her the day!) Anyway, we just gave them a big party, they asked us not to get them a gift because of all the help we had already given them, which actually wasn't all that much because of their scholarships. We did get them really nice frames for their diplomas. Their diplomas were "framed" by a picture of their school's. If you are interested I could probably find out the website you could go to, we saw them and ordered at our county fair one year.

ROBIN ~ Thanks. The applesauce sounds wonderful! You have done so well! I hope your week-end was great.

KERY ~ Thanks.

MEG ~ Thanks.

HI ENNAY ~ KAW ~ JAY ~ BAFFLED ~ SWEET AMOR ~ PAPERCLIPPY ~ SHANE

Have a great Monday everyone! MAINTAIN your LOSSES!

Today was day 4 of SBD and some of my carb cravings are disappearing and I am starting to feel "normal" again. I'm back in my Zone I guess with recording my food and planning my meals and exercising. I hit the treadmill for 1.5 miles tonite (after dusting it off , LOL) and I jogged quite a bit of it.

Lacy and Shelbey made it 3 months as roomies, tonite Shelbey changed to an empty bedroom. LOL, I had wondered how long it would last. They both cleaned their rooms spotless and brought me a ton of laundry, so I'll be up most of the night. Seems like they wait til every piece of their clothing is dirty to haul it to the laundry room. I refuse to go to their rooms and get it. Isn't it amazing how just when you think you might need to buy more towels, the teens clean their bedrooms and bathrooms and you have so many towels again that they won't even fit in the cabinets. LOL

Anne, it looks like your DH did good with the grocery shopping.

Gary, WTG on meeting your wt. loss goal.
