I am 5'3 and weigh 141 and wear a size 6. At 150 I was a size 8. I think the sizes are different now because I remember being very skinny in high school and wearing a size 6, but maybe that was a jr. 6.
I'm 5'4" and my figure is that of an inverted triangle (wide shoulders, big boobs, no hips). At 147, I'm solidly a size 8 in women's petites, but I wear anywhere from a medium to an extra large in tops.
160s: US 12
150s: US 10
140s: US 6-8
130s: 4-6 (I hope)
I've noticed a difference in myself & sizes depending on how tone I was at the time.
I'm 5'2"
204 - snug 16 (refused 18)
190 - 16 very comfy
170 - 14
150 - 12
unfit 140 - I still wore a 12
fit 140 - 10's were perfect
fit 135 - size 8
fit 132 - I tried on a size 6 moments before it dawned on my that I was pregnant. I didn't buy the pants.
184 (high weight)- XL tops and barely squeezing into 14s so more likely a 16
167 (current weight) - L tops and 14s are falling off my hips and can get into a lot of my 12s (yeah!)
150 (goal weight) - Medium tops and size 10s fitting just right with maybe an occasional 8 depending on the cut
It's been about 6.5 years since I was last 150 and all I can say is...I will be beyond ecstatic to wear M tops (because I *am* busty) and size 10s again!
It's funny, when I hit my late teens I never thought about losing weight I stayed around 125-135 for a long time. I was healthy, active, strong and shapely. But I joined the army and they told me I had to weigh 105 max. And it began the horrible gain/lose cycle I'm still fighting now. I never got down to 105, was always in the 'fat boy' program where they basically belittled you and made you go to extra PT to lose the excess.
So, at 135 I wore a tight size 14. As I gained weight I never really thought about how fat I was getting because I stayed in size 14.
135 size 14 in the 1980's, Med-L tops
175 size 16 in the 1990-2000's L to XL tops
197 sausage size 16W-you know where you have to suck in your gut to fasten your pants and you look like a sausage stuffed inside...I went to the XL elastic waste bands after that. But could easily fit into an 18 if not more. XL tops
155 in 2005 size 10-tight Med-L tops
now 178 size 14W-16W depending on the design L-XL tops
So, at 135 I wore a tight size 14. As I gained weight I never really thought about how fat I was getting because I stayed in size 14.
So true! About 20 years ago I weighed about 120 and wore a size 8. About 10 years ago I weighed about 130 and wore a size 8 (although I attribute that partly to being in much better shape, with more muscle, than when I was 20). Now I weigh about 140 and wear a size 8. It's almost spooky - every 10 years I can wear the same size at 10 pounds higher weight.
this is FASCINATING! i may need to rethink my goal weight of 125...I'm 5'2" but as of this morning my size 12 cargo pants are dropping unattractively. i've been buying mediums, have a few size 10's - but i'm 167 lbs and still obese. DH keeps telling me i don't have 40 lbs to lose, and i've been waving him off. maybe he's right? hm. if i'm a 10 at 167, then, well - huh. i'm maybe 10 lbs heavier than i was in high school, and i'm almost 40 now. interesting.
