WooHoo! Started Alli today!

Hi everyone. New to 3FC. In fact, my first post was a couple of days ago in the LA Weight Loss section. DH and I were getting up off the couch to go to the initial LAWL appt. when suddenly the Alli commercial came on. We looked at each other and said, "Lets!" Their ad guy deserves a raise. :::

DH's mom, sis, and brother-in-law have been taking perscription Xenical for a year (currently take one 120mg pill a day for maintenance), and it worked wonders. Orlistat, I'm assuming, is very similar, because the TE, aka Exxon Valdez, washes up on shore like it does for Xenical. HELLO?! That is wild.
And wouldn't ya know it - my favorite pair of pants are gleeming white. :o Sheez. Wish me luck with all THAT! hehehe

'Lil something about me:
I'm 47 and until about 1990, was fit. Killer fit, man! When I was expecting, I ate for two...and never stopped doing that. My 'babies' are now 16 and 17. I've tended to my chicks and they're both happy & healthy. I think I can do a little something for myself now.

I tried Jenny Craig a few years back and lost 40 lbs., but fixing everyone ELSE dinner, then heating up my lil' something was a bit much for me. I caved. So nice my hub is joining me in losing weight. He wants to lose 20.

Hey, I'll check in often and try to stay on course. Thanks again for this forum. You guys are terrific, and you can't imagine how inspirational you all are to me!!!

As expected, week two has been slower. I got spoiled by that initial 10 pound loss in spite of myself. For some reason I keep stepping on the scale each morning when I KNOW better--SOMEBODY STOP ME!!!!! :club: I am heading to the bathroom to remove that sucker to the closet until Sunday as soon as I hit submit this!!! My weight hasn't budged and I have to admit it is discouraging each day to see the same number. Luckily, I am feeling even more entrenched and focused so I have not let it stand in the way of moving on. I am still hoping to hit my first Alli target of 238 this Sunday.
This is my first day of recording my food, calories, and fat grams religiously. I made some discoveries about my eating--it was well worth it and I plan to continue.

Congrats on your start, Bren, Thingirl, Yummymummy, and Dee! I wish you big success.

Congratulations also to Steelslady on that fantastic loss!!!!

Good luck everyone!
Julie

Hi everyone!
I just started Alli today and was so excited to find this group. I am not doing any diet except for watching my fat intake and counting calories like Alli recommends. I do have a question for those of you that bought the Alli book on Amazon. What is the difference in what is in the book and the info that came with the starter kit? Do I need both?

A little about me....I am 29 years old and have been married to the love of my life for the past 9 1/2 years. We have a beautiful 2 year old son that we adopted at birth. I am hoping to lose 35 pounds.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I got my book from Wal-Mart when I bought my starter kit. There is a LOT more information in the book as far as meal ideas, etc. I highly recommend the book, not just for alli users, but for anyone on a lowfat diet.

Hi Everybody - Well, the fourth has come & gone. I did my first weekly weigh in with alli & lost 5 or 6 lbs. (It's hard for me to see the little lines on my scale. I guess it's time to get a new one that I can see or maybe it's not the scale & just my older eyes! LOL)

Anyway - I knew I was leaving town on the 4th & did not want to experience TE's so I followed what alli said about special occasions & overeating. I STOPPED taking my alli capsules on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th to prevent any accidents. I haven't had any type of TE's & didn't want to have any for the first time at someone else's home. I followed the same eating habits that I have been on the 2 & 3 - but yesterday, I did eat some things that I know were loaded with fat (breakfast foods, potato salad, baked beans & a chocolate dessert). But I didn't eat large amounts - but I know it was way over my fat/calorie limit. Surprisingly, I didn't even finish my hamburger & left a few bites of things on my plate because I was full.

I weighed today & I'm still the same weight. I will start the alli pills again with my next meal and continue on with the program.

I thought perhaps those of you that knew you would "overeat" on a special occasion might want to know that you can. BUT only do it once in a great while because we are trying to lose weight aren't we? My next "scheduled" time off will probably be Thanksgiving. So that gives my stomach some time to shrink & me to develop new habits.

Have a good day. ~~sheila

Hey Everyone! My first week loss was 2.6. Not spectacular for a week one, but still pleased. I love the pill though. It is making me be more careful. Last night I went out to dinner, and then we went to a donut shop. Im thinking is there anything I can have here? Nope...It will have too much fat and then I'll be over in fat grams and have a TE! Gotta love that!

I havent started taking Alli yet, I was going to this week but then because we are going camping this weekend I thought maybe that wasnt such a good idea. So I'm shooting for next week after I have a couple of lowfat days. I have a question though:

Since the cost is an issue for me and it is cheaper to buy the replacements rather than the starter kit...am I really missing anything by not getting the starter pack?

This is just my humble opinion, but I LOVE my starter pack. It has everything you need to get started in these little purse-sized books. There's a calorie/fat grams book that even includes fast food items--very useful; a food/menus book, a food journal (also-purse sized), a book that describes the program with helpful hints, and other stuff. The little case they give you is also very helpful for carrying pills in your purse. Usually, when I started a diet I had to run around looking for some sort of counter (a book for carb grams, or fat grams), a notebook to get started, etc. It felt like there was nothing else I needed. I got the starter kit, logged into the site, and I was off and running. The other thing I'm not sure of is whether you need the registration number that comes with the starter kit to get into the alli site. You definitely need to have that because the site is awesome (message boards are a little slow, tho) and the steps are really helpful. Does anyone know if you can register if you don't buy the starter kit?

You go, Umagirl!!!!
:congrat:

cygnss 07-05-2007 04:18 PM

Hun.e.b. - You have to have a number to register for the alli plan support! So, yes, I think it's a good idea to get the starter kit also. I just enjoy reading the personal messages. If you have something you think is an effect from the alli - chances are someone else has had the same. Good information on the site. ~~sheila

Made it throught the 4th of July with NO EMBARRASSING moments! YEAH!

TOM is still here, so I have not weighed myself lately. I have learned that it just doesn't pay to get on the scale and try and interpret what the numbers say. So I will weigh again on Friday.

I have only missed a couple of pills in the last two weeks, and aside from one minor TE I have not had ANYTHING. Headache is gone...gassyness is gone... I am feeling very normal. I am a little bit worried that I am going to "forget" one of these days and eat some forbidden food and pay the ultimate price. A co-worker had not taken a pill all day and went out for dinner. Creamy pasta with cheese... yup... she had a treatment effect. So it goes to show even if you have not had a pill that day, you can still pay the price.

As I was reading through the posts it made me really think about my food choices. I know that while my fat has remained low, sometimes I think my calories are high. I can still sabotage myself and stall my weightloss if I eat lots of low fat calories. The chemistry of weight loss remains the same. I need to keep my focus.

I have decided that I am going to continue to take the pill while on vacation. I had to really weigh that decision, BUT I don't want to reverse all of the progress that I have made.

I am very happy to hear that so many people are doing well... and for those of you who have not had the pleasure of an oil slick in the toilet... YOU ARE DOING GREAT! :) And for those who have not seen the big numbers on the scale... hang in there. If you were eating healthy to begin with then you will not see huge weighloss numbers. But you will see steady progress. :)

Good Luck!

Well, I'm on day three of Alli and no problems so far. I am eating much higher quality food than when I was just counting calories, no putting all my calories into one deep fried treat. I'm trying to stay off the scale, but I would feel that alli's worth the money if I can lose anything close to an average of 2-3 lbs a week or 10 lbs a month if I put my part of the effort into it.

I'm surely going to have to get creative with the grilled chicken breasts :-)

cygnss 07-05-2007 06:05 PM

tkt117 - Whoa - I'm glad I stopped the pills like alli said to since your friend had side effects even when she didn't take the pill. Now I hoping that starting the pills again today won't give me TE's from yesterdays meal. Let's hope not! Thanks for the info.

BethG2 - I know, grilled chicken breasts. My family is going to get a little tired so I'm hunting for new recipes in the entree department!

Whoops my smiley face didn't turn out! Probably coded it wrong! Anyway, smiley face to all of you! ~~sheila

Today was my 1st Alli check in day at myalli. (11 days since I've taken alli) I'm down 8 lbs. I've pretty much eaten what the alli plan has for meals. If it's chicken breast I'll make it but not always how they have it listed on the site. I'll maybe change the way it's cooked (I never add more fat for cooking) or add/minus/exchange some of the fruits or veggies. I've not had a TE. I'm feeling very good and don't understand why ppl are so P.O. at this product!! Are they afraid that by my taking it somehow a treatment effect will happen to them??!! Pretty funny if it did. Could think of a couple ppl I'd like that to happen to. Sorry but it's true! (still smiling thinking about it.)
