New here

  • I'm new. I was sent here by a friend. I'm 5'4 and right now I weigh 162. I want to weigh around 120. Right now I've cut the candy and cookies and sugary things like that out. No more Coke. I'm drinking a lot of water and just working on eating better.

I've never been successful on any diet before. I have little or no willpower and my husband, who can't GAIN weight, always has a lot of junk in the house. So instead of just making a HUGE change, I'm easing in. I'm cutting the junk out and all like I said earlier and once I'm eating better I'm going to work on more exercise (I'd also like it to get warmer out).
  • Welcome! I totally connect with the lack of will power. That is why i'm here. I have a total issue with self-control. My problem has always been carbs and sugars. I could eat a whole meal of nothing but carbs, so I had to cut out the problem. If that is a problem for you, have you tried Atkin's? Is it also possible for your husband to not eat the junk in front of you? Just little steps..

Remind yourself that you are worth the effort. I wish you all the luck...
  • Atkins isn't realistic to me.

It seems like if I actually start a real diet I fail. I think it's knowing I have these strict guidlines, if that makes sense.

That's why this time I'm cutting back and just taking it slow.

As I've told a friend of mine what I've eaten today, she adds up points, as in WW, so I've stayed in THOSE guidlines, though not by trying.
  • I agree with you Soggy,
I found that everytime I try a specific diet with spelled out restrictions I only do good for about 2 days and then go on a binge.
I have trying to stay away from the word DIET so I will say that I have been watching what I eat for 3 weeks now and it is going very well. I have been watching my calories and there are a few things that I have tried to stay away from only because I have issues with moderation.
Its good that you're taking it slow. Take the time and research what is right for you.
Also, let me second the fact that I can't wait until it gets warmer out. I'm in Michigan and today it has been snowing all day. YUK!

Good Luck on your weight loss journey.

  • Welcome and good luck. I have not been on a "DIET" but I have watched portion control and am having sucess. It is very hard when you are the only one in the house watching your weight. You'll find great support here if you need it.
  • Just remember anything you do for 30 days becomes habbit. So cutting sugar snacks like that for the next month and it will be a lifestyle change! Add up how many calories you just cut and then you will see that over time that equals pounds lost

    Welcome
