Default Hope I am doing this right I am new

Hi everyone my name is Laura. I have a LOT of weight to lose and need support. I hope this will be the place.

I have been big all my life, but within the last year have had major health issues because of the weight. My current weight is 423. I am down 40 lbs from 463 where I started as I call it my "lifestyle change". Upon telling my mom yesterday I had lost 2lbs for the week and hit 40lb loss, her response was "you could have done better". Yes I could have but that isn't what I wanted to hear. I am not even sure for someone my size what I should be going for every week? I heard healthy was like 2 lbs a week, but don't know if being my size makes a difference?

I was on weight watchers before and had lost 39 lbs, and was thinking of trying that again, but I am not big on the whole meeting thing, or maybe just the whole lot of people thing lol. So I am hoping this will be a place I can get what I need.

Oh and btw I have been on this "change" since the 1st of October. I guess thats all and I am looking forward to conversing with you, thanks

Hi Laura! I'm new as well. Welcome. I'm glad to see someone else refer to it as a lifestyle change, as that's what it should be! Congrats on the 40 lb loss overall, as well as the 2lbs for the week. A loss is a loss, no matter how small it may seem to everyone else. I look forward to seeing you around the boards and chatting with you!

hit 40lb loss
Congratulations! That is a great weight loss.

Sometimes family members are not as supportive or understanding as we need them to be but you have done the right thing coming here because we do understand and support.

I like the one to two pound a week weight loss goal. Losing several pounds a week brings its own problems to the table ... gallstones, for one. I think you need to consult with your doctor on this one though because I am unsure if this suits you?

I admire your determination and progress. Hope you will share your ongoing successes with us.

40 pounds in 4 months(ish) is 10 pounds a month, and that is fantastic. you're doing great. don't let naysayers (even if it's your mother!) distract you from what is *your* goal and *your* lifestyle. if you can manage to lose all that weight in a time when most people are gaining it back, then i'm sure you can do well the rest of the year.

congrats on your progress, and good luck to you!

Laura, you do what works for you. Make sure you don't let people sway you from your goal. This is all about you. Around here we applaud ANY progress, and 2 pounds in a week is excellent, healthy progress. If what you are doing is working, and it sounds like it is to me, then stick with that.

Your mother is cray. You're 40 lbs down, in a healthy timeframe, and that's a lot!

I am a huge advocate of Weight Watchers so I'm thrilled you're considering returning.
