Default Hello All

Hello all,

I'm Mal. Nice to meet you.

I'm a 20 something from the US.

Weight loss...hm.

Well, I've had my ups and downs in the past. I really got in to running on an elliptical at the end of last year. However, at the beginning of this year, I fell and broke my ankle. I was put on bed rest for swelling problems.

Unfortunately, when you can't move, you can eat... and boy did I eat.

So now, I've achieved a weight at which I'm very uncomfortable with myself. I'm usually pretty good at exercising, but I no longer have anyone to exercise with.

I am hoping that the use of this forum (and maybe a blog) will help me to stay motivated to lose the weight.

I have been calorie counting for a few weeks (with some minor success...) but I think it is time to step it up a notch. I really like exercising (thankfully ) and I have acquired Turbo Jam. I hope to be able to use this, and eating right to combat the lb's.

It is nice to see a support system on here. I hope that this is what I need to push me to make myself feel better and improve my health.

At this point, I'm at a sad 190lb's at just 5'6". My recommendation to everyone is to try not to break any limbs! Hehe.

All kidding aside, I've always been a bit on the curvy side, so even getting back to 150lb's will be awesome, but my final target weight is about 130-135.

Hi and welcome, know exactly how you feel. broke my leg/ankle myself 18 months ago playing soccer! But then I used it as an excuse for a long time too (not implying you are, it was my excuse) then the start of this year, around feb/march I said things must change, so I can go back to the dog that bit me (go back playing soccer) and so far have lost approx 60 lbs. Break it up into mini goals, and if you have a bad day, put it behind you and just keep going! Did you get ankle surgery? If you want any more information feel free to e mail me or ask here.

Thanks for replying = )

I was lucky, and didn't have to have surgery. However, the bed rest really killed me! I gained at least 25lbs from not being allowed/able to move.

Actually, I did use it as an excuse for quite a few weeks after the cast came off, but soon realized that I wasn't losing much weight (I maybe lost 5-10lbs just from being able to walk again) and that it was no longer an excuse.

I've been struggling with counting calories for the last week or two specifically because everyone around me eats a lot of high fat/high carb foods, and huge portion sizes. I'm definitely going to need tips on how to eat with them without undermining my health. Also, nobody else works out, so I'm going to need to be able to suck it up and do work out videos, even if everyone's laughing at me for dancing around in front of the TV.

If you have any tips, feel free to share them. It's awesome to get ideas about how other people cope with the same issues.

Congratulations on your weight loss! 60lbs is incredible in such a short amount of time! I'm sure you'll be back to soccer in no time. I'm hoping to lose about 40lbs in a pretty quick amount of time, and then take some time to really focus on athletic abililty and training for the last 10-15lbs.

What has worked for you to lose the weight in such a short period of time?
