Tracy from Texas

  • Hi. I am Tracy from TX. I am currently at 210 and would like to get to 150. I am 37 and will be 38 in April. I had my second child when I was 36 and I am finding that it is harder to take off the weight the older you get. Which I knew that anyways.

My dad has heart trouble, diabetes and smokes. I don't have these things, YET but will if I don't do something about it now. I want to be around for my 14yr old and especialy my 1 1/2 yr old.

Not sure how I am going to go about it but joined and gonna take some advice if given. I don't know where to start.

  • Hi Tracy from Texas, I'm Laurie from Louisiana!

I don't know what to tell you to do, but I can tell you what I've been doing. I started Medifast in December and lost 28 pounds, but it's expensive and I decided that I want to start eating real food, healthy food. Medifast was good for me in that it helped me to break my addiction and was kind of like rehab for me. This week I started the South Beach diet and I feel that I can stick with this healthy way of eating and make it a way of life.

    Good luck to you!
  • Hi Tracy! I'm new here too! One thing I have learned about aging and gaining weight is that adding muscle to your body helps your resting metabolism greatly. As we get older, if we don't work our muscles, we gain faster than when we were younger and had more muscle. It doesn't have to be harder to lose just because you're a little older now.

I've *always* thought I just needed some aerobic exercise to burn calories, but recently added strength training & boy does it help this 30-something body! I'm sure I started losing my muscle mass after high school when I was no longer in the few sports I participated in & it was downhill from there.

    Just a thought! Take care!
