Default New Here

Hello, my name is Lesley and I am new here to posting, but definitely not to lurking. I've been struggling with weight since I was about 15 and severely broke my leg from a sports injury. I kept eating the way I did when I was playing sports, but since I couldn't be active for over a year, I packed on the pounds. Because of the weight gain, I battled through depression, and am still battling through it, on a really bad bought right now, so of course I am turning to the comfort of eating and over eating, and then getting so upset with myself, which leads to skipping meals or even skipping eating the whole day, but I'm going back into therapy on the 19th, so hopefully I can get that back under control. I am really hoping to get to my goal weight of 170, and I started out at 250 (my highest was 305lbs) and am currently at 226lbs. I'm hoping to reach my goal weight by the end of this year at the latest, and really hoping to get down to 200lbs for when I go on my spring break. I am going to try doing it the old fashioned way, eating right and exercising, as I don't have a great disposable income to do a meal delivery service. I'm really looking forward to getting great help, support and advice on this forum, and even trying out the recipes that I have looked through already!

if you measure from your highest you are already more than halfway to your goal. Pretty good for a first time poster haha

haha, thanks! I wish I could feel that I'm halfway to my goal, you know? It took me about a year to drop from 305 to 250, so going from 226 to 170 seems like such a huge hill to climb

Hi Lesley!
A lot of us started out as lurkers, too - congrats on your success so far - you're well on your way with the right approach to losing - the support you need is here to achieve your goal of a healthier and happier you - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired - you'll be a wonderful addition to any of them. - you would be a great support to others facing the challenge of depression, check out that forum. Try the weight loss support forums, they're active and very helpful - also the Success stories are a definite must for motivation.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here since last fall, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals ,
Lee

I was a former lurker, too. Welcome to the forums, Lesley. So glad you decided to join and introduce yourself. Sports have not been kind to my legs either. My last break was entirely due to my weight and lack of conditioning. At the time, I figured I was done with all physical activities and really let myself go. It took my diabetes diagnosis to get me to pull my head out. I'm now looking forward to the day when I can get back onto the pitch and play some soccer. It's kinda weird how the good can come from the bad. Sounds like you've got a plan and are committed to doing what needs to be done.
