Default Hello! I'm new!

Hello everyone! I'm so excited to find this forum! I don't know really what to say in this introductions thing. Um.... I'm 25, married for 4 years... I have Celiac Disease and Fibromyalgia.I weighed 185 as of a week ago (I'm so not weighing myself for another few days) and I'm 5'5. I haven't decided on a goal weight yet. I know I want to lose SOME weight but the BMI thing says I should weigh like in the 130s but that is NOT healthy for me. I was at 135 for a while just after high school and I looked anorexic. My hip bones were visible through clothing, you could see every single rib, etc. It was NOT healthy for me. When I was in HS I was a competitive swimmer and I weighed 155 and I was all muscle so that might be a goal. But with the fibro I'm not sure that's even possible. Sorry for the rambling, but do you have any advice to find an actual goal?

What else? Um... (sorry I'm realizing that I'm REALLY bad at this) I have 2 rescued American Pit Bull Terrier mixes (Ninja and Tuskey) and 2 cats who tolerate the husband and I as roommates. I like to read, cook, clean, and goof off with the hubby!

Well, hello!!!

Welcome! You did just fine in your intro. I think all of us who are picking a goal weight are throwing darts at a board - you won't really know what's right for your body until you get there. So maybe pick something you think is reasonable and reserve the right to change it when you get closer to it, either up or down. BMI is a decent starting place to find a healthy weight, but it does have its flaws. Another good thought is to talk to your doctor about it.

Anyway, there is lots of great support to be had here and we're glad you've joined us!

Thanks for all the welcomes!

I don't think I'm going to go ask my doctor for advice because I generally dislike doctors. I mean after the whole CD and Fibro issue..... I'm kind of doctored out! Their general advice was always "if you try to feel better, you'll be better" useful right? I think doctors have their place, but I've exclusively had bad experiences, so now I just don't really care what they think beyond getting my yearly bloodwork and *ahem* other stuff. And that's not for like 6 months! I'm not wasting a copay for them to tell me my BMI. LOL! Anywho, I'm going to try to get to about 165 and then see how healthy I feel etc. I'm thinking 155 might be ideal IF I can do it healthily (ie exercise and eating right) but if not I'm prepared to accept a FEW extra lb's for the sake of my pain levels. ha ha.

Today I found a dance workout on tv and I did the whole 30 min (go me!). I'm sure I looked like an idiot (luckily I was alone save for the dogs and they were happy to dance right along with me!), but it was fun and other than being really tired I didn't hurt *too* much afterward. I set the dvr to record them all week and we'll see if I can keep them up. DH works Friday-Monday so we're just coming up on our weekend. Hopefully we can take the dogs for walks and work in some exercise there!

Sorry for the Novel!!

Oh and Newbie power!!

Hi SmilingPitBullMama!
I think you're smart and right about deciding what is healthy for you - that's really what it's all about not a number - you're off to a great start so keep it up - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired - you'll be a wonderful addition to any of them! There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help get through the ups and downs. There's 20 Something forum as well as one that addresses the challenge of fibromyalgia and other health issues - they might be of interest to you.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in the success of my weight loss so far.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee
