Default New: Learning how to swim again

I grew up swimming, literally lived for vacations because it meant there would be a pool. I swam competitively from age 9 to age 13, and then, wanting to spend more time with friends and boys, I stopped.

I didn't realize how much I missed the water.

After my husband and I moved back to Atlanta last months after a rather soul-crushing year our west, something clicked (caused I think by a combination of the time on my hands while job searching and being so much happier with my surroundings), and three weeks ago I made a decision to live healthier.

It started with making it my apartment's gym - 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill and walking the puppy a couple of blocks further away. And then it was eating healthier. Now, it's eating healthier and counting calories in a journal.

But it felt a little like my heart's not in it.

That was until today - when I printed out a free 7 day pass to the local Y, and went swimming, really swimming, for the first time in years. I probably only made it 800 yards and freestyle was way too hard, but when I got out of the pool, I felt incredible, exhausted in the best kind of way.

Swimming may not be the best for weight loss, but I am not a runner. I am a swimmer, or at least, I want to be again.

This community seems like a wonderful source of support and I hope to take advantage of it as I try to navigate my way to back to swimming. And maybe out of the plus size section in the process.

Welcome
Swimming is the best - great on the joints and makes blocking out the rest of the world quite easy.
Good luck!
