Unhappy New and could use some help :(

Hi all!
My name is Katie and I am a professional actress. I'm doing well, but just recently we received some photos back from our latest production. I'm going through a break-up and I know I've put on some weight but I didn't know I looked THAT big!

I'm 5'9" and weigh 182 lbs. I've never been big in my life - it's always been easy for me to stay slim - but, boy do I look like a beast.

I'm trying to take little steps each day - I've cut out alcohol almost completely and try to walk as much as possible. Any encouragement would be so very great.

Thanks!
Katie

Hi and welcome!

Most of us probably don't understand the pressure of needing to stay slim for our jobs. But we do understand the battle.

I think you've started very well. Read lots and post. Stick with us. We'll support you.

Oh, I'm sure you don't look like a beast, come now.....

Anyway, you may want to consider a more formal program, then just eliminating alcohol. Calorie counting is a great way to set limits and remain acountable. It's so easy to overspend calories and take in more food then we require - especially to create that all important calorie deficit. I know "cutting back" and "only eating heatlhy" never worked for me. I needed something more to keep me on my toes. Tracking my calories was my answer. fitday.com and thedailyplate.com are a couple of web sites to get you going on that. You will find that once you start actually counting your calories you become more aware and more responsible with your food intake. It forces you to become educated and make more sensible choices.

Welcome to 3FC. This is a great site for support, encouragement and advice.

WOW!
I feel better already!
Yes, I am on a caloric-restricted diet through LoseIt! and I must say I love it - having be accountable for all my food intake is great - I highly recommend it for anyone who has an iPhone.

And yes, staying slim for my job is a bummer, but I'd rather have that pressure than the pressure of not doing what I love!

Thank you to all! You are all fantastic.

I'm new to the forums also, only a few days, but I've got to say that I love it. It's nice to have people around who know exactly what you're going through. I do have a friend that is about 250 but she's good with her weight and feels like she doesn't need to change. I need people who feel the same way I do. Thanks to everyone!
