Default 2009 the healing year

Hello everyone. I just joined and am looking forward to getting fit both physically and mentally. I lost my sister this year to pancreatic cancer and I have gained 40 pounds since May 2008. I ate and drank my way to 220 the most I have ever weighed. I back hurts, my feet hurt and my heart is broken. I know if I don't take charge of this I will be dead too. I lost 60 pounds 5 years ago at Weight Watchers so I know that it can be done. I am a lifetime member but am imbarrased to go back since I gained back the 60 pounds plus 10 more. I feel good about this website and know that all will be well. Any suggestions will be more then welcomed.

Namaste

I'm so terribly sorry to hear about your sister. Welcome to 3FC, and I hope 2009 will be a healing year for you!

oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss too. What a terrible year you've had!

I'm new here too ... well I joined up a year ago but have gone back to overeating on the goodies of late .... I lost 70lbs at WW too but had a traumatic event in my life which caused me to stop. But I'm looking to the future now.

My tips would be take it slow and easy. Don't beat yourself up for any past mistakes and don't tell yourself anything negative. you're looking at the big picture ("I will be dead too") and yes if all of us here don't take charge of our eating then we could all eat ourselves into an early grave. But we can't make sweeping changes overnight.

My advice would be to change one thing at a time ... I've started by making meal plans. I haven't started my fat loss yet, but I'm laying the foundations. Today i am clearing out my kitchen cupboard, making a list of food to get and tomorrow I will get it from the supermarket. I'm also making a huge pot of soup for those "I need a snackie" moments. I'm gathering recipes and new cooking methods.

Take it slow and easy and again, don't be hard on yourself. You've had a rough time but today is a new beginning

MzMargo,
As you can see, I'm new to 3FC but not new to the "trying to lose weight" world. Additionally, your post caught my attention because of your recent loss. I'm a hospice social worker. I am very sorry for your loss. I gather from your post that your sister was a special person to you. What better way to honor that relationship by taking care of yourself.
I strongly urge you to look into grief support groups in your area to start emotional healing. Grief is a process, meaning it's work. Hard work. Having a good support system is a great step.
I applaud you for starting that support system by using this forum.
I'm using WW myself and have good results so far. I'm also exercising and having fun trying different workouts. Hope this forum helps you in your journey.

So sorry for your loss.

Do not be afraid to go back to WW. I'm a lifetime member who has gained back part of what I lost. I was embarrassed and struggled with myself to go back too. But, I remembered one of our substitute leaders telling us it took her 3 times to get it right. Our regular leader also says it sometimes takes several tries. The big thing is when you fall down, GET BACK UP!

I'm going back regularly now and getting back on track. No one spanked me when I showed up. They were glad to see me and help me get losing again.
