Talking ~~Newbie From NC~~

Hi! I discovered 3 Fat Chics by accident and well, here I am! I'm a 39 year old single Mom of 3 from Raleigh, NC. I've pretty much delt with weight issues since I was about 10 years old. I've spent my life going up and down the scale. I've had a few successful attemps at losing weight only to gain it back again + add more lbs each time. Right now I'm at my highest weight of my life. I hate it so much! I have often wondered why I do the very thing to myself that I truly dislike the most about myself. It seems to be a vicious circle. Sooo....here I am. I have to wonder if it was chance that brought me to this site, or if perhaps this is the help that I've been praying for. I've been reading several stories, and WOW...you are all amazing & so encouraging!! Yay!! THERE IS HOPE FOR ME~~ I just know it!

So, I'm at 290lbs and I'd really like to lose 135lbs and get down to 155. Honestly, I don't have a program or a particular diet right now. I'm sure like everyone else...I've tried them all! I want to feel healthy and BE HEALTHY. I want to feel good about "ME" again and not be the "fat Mommy" when I take my 8 year old to school. I h ave a really long way to go, I know that I do...I know deep down in my heart that there is hope and that I can lose this!

I have noticed that there are different groups - 30's, 40's etc. I kinda had to laugh to myself, um...since I'm 39 does that mean I can only join the 30's group for a year? lol I'm not sure how to go about joining a group, or if you have to be asked? So, if someone wouldn't mind helping a newbie out...I'd really appreicate it!

I'm feeling really excited about this! I hope to meet some new friends that I can have great conversation with and encourage each other! Please don't be shy...say hi!

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GIRLS ~~~ You are my HEROES!!

Hi Jill to 3fc!

You don't have to be invited to a group. Just stop by and start posting! I recommend that you "lurk" for a few days first, though, because each group has slightly different dynamics and 'personality."

Hi Jill!!
I live in N.C. too, I am near Greensboro, and am also 39 yrs old.
I am a member of the 100 pd club on the support group, and they are a great bunch of gals and guys there, so check us out.
Like you most of my life I have had weight issues, has some succes in my late teen, early college years, but after the kids the weight would pile on and everytime I would loose a little, I would stop gain what I lost back and then gain more. I went from 160 to my highest this spring of more than 279 pounds( I didn't get a scale until a few weeks into eating better and exercising.
Now why is this working when in the past it hasn't worked? I ask myself this almost daily. I guess I was tired of having no energy, swollen feet, back pain, my daughter coming home in tears, because her classmates said I was fat, the self-hate, only buying clothes in a few stores.
I am not giving my money to anyone, what is working, is watching calories( I use fitday.com ), I started out eating about 1800 calories a day, and have lowered it to 1600 and under right now. I also started using my elliptical trainer, at first I could only do 2-3 minutes, and slowly started working my way up to 40 minutes 5-7 days a week.
It is hard, there are days I don't want to exercise, there are days , when I have stress, I feel like going into the kitchen and binging on food, but I know in the end I will hate myself, and it is not worth it.
I hope this has helped you at least a little and you find what is good for you. I beleive you can do anything if you want it bad enough.
