Another weekend Gone!!!
My sister-in-law asked me to go to a movie with her - so we went to see Miracles from Heaven today. DH decided to tag along. It was a nice feel good movie. It was a well deserved diversion, but I do not like the format of this movie theater, you have to by your tickets at the snack counter. I took my soy nuts along for a snack. Beth - contgrats on you cherry blossom run and meeting your goal. :carrot: Blue - Congrats on holding your weight in a 1 -2 # range. What is your secret? HIS and Destony - how was your weekend? Kalaya - hopefully you are sleeping well now. MiWi - lots of changes for you now. How is the Nanny hunt going? I believe everything happens for a reason, so I am hoping you find an even better fit for your family. I started getting that icky feeling again this morning. I eat later on Sundays than I normally do, so I mixed a drink mix and drank that. (I also ate a 4th packet - drink mix) on Saturday. Mom came by to help me pack yesterday and we packed the lesser used items in the dining room and kitchen. Then back to work in the office. I am loving the new scanner. It makes it easy to scan items in and then shred them :) I had to skip my weigh in last week to attend a funeral. Hoping I will get rewarded with a bigger loss this week. Wishing everyone a great week this week. |
A huge shout out to Beth for completing your run!!! It was super cold and I was thinking about you. Woo hoo!!!
We found a new nanny. She has purple hair. Sue Congrats on getting through the temptation at the snack counter. It's bad enough how good the popcorn smells. I took my 4 year old to see Star Wars and of course he wanted a popcorn and a lemonade. I didn't spring a snack. BIG mistake. I didn't eat anything, and my stomach was growling the entire time. blue My memory is shot...I just read all the weekend posts. Did you ask about the carb separation meals? That's such a good question, because I didn't consciously try to do that while on maintenance last time. HIS How are you feeling? Thanks for understanding my anxiety about my boys (even if they are still little). kalaya Hope your allergies aren't bothering you so much. DH's eyes were totally red. Linda How is everything? Try any new good workouts? I am need to decide on what I am going to do once I phase off. Hope everyone had a good weekend. Phase 2 went well over the weekend. Sometimes I have a hard time during the work week to figure out what to bring. DH made some beef stew and we had leftovers so I brought that today. I feel more satisfied and less hungry overall during Phase 2. Talk to you all soon. |
Sue & Candi - thanks :D
Candi - so glad you found someone & that rocks! The boys will probably get a kick out of the purple hair ;) Yes - I see people, quite often, saying the increase in protein in P2 is just too much...gosh I wish I had that problem :p JennyD - Did you finish your reboot? Happy Monday - a little sore today and overslept my alarm this morning. Oops :o Weighed Sunday morning, pre-race and was a little too close to scream-weight again. For some reason, my now some-what normal gut schedule got thrown off Friday and Saturday so I was a little backed-up :o Nerves took care of that before the race thankfully! Still cutting back / low carbing after 2 days of carb-load Not particularly focused today either, but have a couple things that have to get done and after the ridiculous wind / cold yesterday, it's suppose to be 72 and sunny, so I'll be heading out for a nice walk at lunch |
Candi, purple hair - my kids would have loved that. :)
beth, I'm green with envy that you got to run with Meb. SO COOL. And congrats on another good race. Re: your husband... I had to learn to apply boundaries with difficult people. I recommend the Boundaries book by Dr. Henry Townsend. It gave me good, practical skills for communication and how to deal with conflict. The guy on FB: I noticed that he was either removed or quit the Support and Love group. I would not want to be his IP coach, that's for sure! _________________ I didn't post all weekend because I was in a bad place, mentally. I walked 34 miles last week and did the Alt P1/P2 protocol and lost .... zero pounds. Those 2 pounds I lost last week made a reappearance on Friday morning. I was so discouraged. I binged all weekend, and actually had a moment when I thought, "The heck with all of this. I'm just going to eat what I want and be happy." Of course the scale is up another pound this morning, so now I'm 7 pounds over my goal weight. I haven't thrown in the towel, but I'm just so irritated that my efforts aren't paying off, and I don't know what to do other than P1 yet again. My orthopedic appointment is at 2 this afternoon. After I find out what my treatment plan is for April, I'll decide whether or not to go back on P1 for 2-4 weeks. I've noticed that over the last few days, I don't have any pain at all when I walk, so I hope that's a sign that healing is happening. On a happier note, when I got back from my 6.5 mile walk yesterday, I found a brand-new calf right next to the house. I missed the birth by about 15 minutes. We didn't even know the mama cow was pregnant, so it was a total surprise. She's a pretty little black heifer. Usually cows go off to some isolated place to give birth, so this one either happened very quickly or mama felt comfortable delivering right outside my bedroom window. LOL. |
Beth – You runner, you!! Great results, and sounds like you had fun, even with crappy weather.
Hope that {ahem} nature and a couple of low carb days gets that weight back down. Noticed that your next race is in a few weeks, and I know you have to carb up for it, sure sounds like a struggle to keep the carbs/weight managed. But you seem to have found a system that works. Lucky you to be having 70s today, we got more snow yesterday, and it’ll be cold here all week. Cmon, spring!!! I’m ready for you. I was hoping to put all my winter clothes away, I’m so ready for all those summer clothes in my closet :) HIS – I’m really sorry you’re struggling. It sounds like you’re doing everything right and it should be working. That weight gain may not be real, you know that, right? I feel for your frustration. Put that binge behind you, get back on track, the P1-alt should work. Probably doesn’t apply, I’m sure, but I know for me, getting away from P1, and you forget the details – water, salt, oil, supplements?? Hope your ortho gives you some good news! Love the calf story, what a sweet thing! Baby animals, always the cutest things. Quote:

Yeah, my coach really stresses the carb/fat separation. I’ve seen suggested ratios of 3:1 or even 4:1 but I fail miserably at that. Might manage 2:1 most of the time. I have more problems at dinner with the carb meal. Maybe it’s all the P1 meals without carbs, but I’m quite happy to have meat/veggies for dinner. But that doesn’t fit the high carb/low fat thing. I usually plug it into MFP before I cook, and then think to myself, I’d better add a carb, so I’ll add a potato or sweet potato or something. Even though I may not really want it. And I’m not sure if timing matters. If I don’t have a carb at dinner, I’ll have some fruit, like an apple, maybe a bit later. That gets the carb count up. But does it work if it’s not at the same time?? These are things I don’t know. :( And just how much do they matter. For me, this is the part of my P4 journey where I need to learn all this stuff, so it becomes automatic, that’s where I want to live. I’m OK with doing all this checking and counting for now, learning process, but I don’t want to do it long-term. And I don’t want to fall into slipshod ways and end up slowly gaining it all back. I see my coach this week (I’m trying a every 2 weeks schedule, to see if I’m OK with that) and I’ll talk to her about it. |
Update: I got the go-ahead to try the stationary bike again, and I can try the elliptical. I'm to start with only 6 minute sessions, then see how I feel the next day. If I'm still pain free, I can increase the duration by 2 minutes every other day.
So, for now, I'm going to stay on the Alt P1/P2 plan and see what happens. If I don't lose anything - or God forbid, I gain MORE - in the next two weeks, I'll revert to regular P1 until the end of April. At my next appointment in May, he's probably going to let me try returning to running. :carrot: In other news, my husband wrecked our newish (10 month old) car today. He pulled out in front of someone at a 4-way stop, as I understand it. I'm waiting for him to get home to assess the damage. He's a terrible driver. :( It makes me sick how many of our vehicles he's smashed up. |
HIS - :yikes: hope your DH is ok...& the car isn't too wracked up
& I really wish I had some magic words or strategies for dealing with those moments - especially to head them off at the pass... but whats done is done...and I know you will be ok. Just a thought, but they say 'the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over & expecting a different result', right? ;) Any thought on going back to P3 and seeing if things level off - yes, including the breakfast & fwiw, you know the scale is going to be up for a couple days - any chance you could put it away in a closet, let say, until Thursday? You know said-guy is a member on the Alternates page? I noticed he was back posting on Love & Support too. Guess he finally got the hint when he was banned for 24 hours or whatever. I got into it with him Saturday morning - don't get me wrong, I made plenty of little changes, especially at the end...but 3-4-5 days in? I still have my suspicions, especially since he posts tons of pictures of his meals, but never any IP packets - but I'm trying to be supportive too - we were all new once :) ETA - HIS, can you confirm if he blocked me  ? He was talking about changing coaches and I asked if he had discussed his concerns with her & that just possibly he went in so well prepared (since he asked about 100 questions on the various FB groups in the days leading up to his first visit ) she didn't think he needed so much hand-holding ;) Blue - I think I would take some consistency in weather over 74 for an hour, or two and then back to the 30s / 40s - it would make dressing for the day a little easier ;) fwiw - what you are doing is working - idk that I would go messing with it too much unless you're planning to add in a lot of exercise? I really think your body is telling you, rather accurately, what it needs & doesn't - trust it :D |
Hi IPer’s! It has been awhile since I have been on the site as things have been seriously crazy this past month. I have been maintaining in a 3# window, between 136-139. I am very happy with this since I have been traveling, went on vacation, had company, etc… Thankfully I haven’t had to go back on strict P1 during this time, just alternating between indulgences and scaling back.
At some point, I think I would like to get back on P1 and maybe get closer to 130, but my body seems to be doing very well right here. Maybe some time in the summer when things slow down and there isn’t a whole lot to do. Plus, seeing how I am maintaining in this 3# window and being successful, I don’t really have the mental motivation to be strict right now. I haven’t read back through all of the pages that I have missed over the past month, but it seems like everyone is still doing well. HIS- glad to hear you are on the mend! Running in May! Woo-hoo! Blue- I have found that NOT having carbs at dinner has worked very well for me while I have been maintaining here. When I am “watching”, I’ll have carbs at breakfast and lunch, but not at dinner and I have found it to be no issue whatsoever to stay right in my range. Of course, not everything works the same on everyone, but this has been a game changer for me. On a normal maintenance day (not indulging and not scaling back), I am probably around 150g carb, but only carbs from veggies at dinner. I have found that figuring out the carb macro has been much more important than my overall calorie intake, as well as the carb timing. |
Welcome back jenny - Sounds like a really busy time you've been having, but glad to hear your maintenance plan is going well.
Interesting what you say about carbs. I'm hesitant to change things, since what I'm doing seems to be working for me (weight holding steady within 1-2lb) Like you I have my carb macro set at 150, but most days I'm falling short. Fat on the other hand is always higher - always red. My calories are set at 1500, and that's about where I am most days. So do you think for me, hitting the calorie macro is more important than the carb one? The other question - what do you do about separating carbs and fat, or do you even worry about that. If you have carbs at lunch, do you make sure lunch is low fat? And is dinner then your higher fat/lower carb meal? or maybe I'm overthinking it all :?: |
Hey gang - just a quick check in...
Please keep me in your thoughts - we were told late yesterday afternoon the company is changing software - it is between 2 companies, and found out this morning that most likely our positions will be eliminated no later than 1/1/17 :( There is an off-handed chance if they go with Option B, we might still have our jobs, but it's not looking positive All part of the "new" shiny company - streamlining...out with the old, in with the new |
Beth I will definitely keep you in my thoughts. Hoping for the positive!!!
Jenny!!! You are back. You were missed. I am phasing off now and I love reading about your approach to maintenance. blue You have been doing really well. People who are allergic to gluten don't have a lot of high carb meals...how can they? And they are fine. HIS Yay for being able to increase your exercise. Hope your husband is OK and the car isn't too bad off. I've added a tiny little bit of fat/dairy with daily low-fat string cheese. Seems to be working OK. Otherwise Phase 2 is fine. Looking forward to maintenance and finding a healthy balance. Take care y'all!!! |
Jenny - glad maintenance is going so well! A little jealous ;)
Candi - thanks, me too. Linda posted a meme on FB this morning that was really what I needed to read right now "No point in stressing over something you can't change. Let it go, move on and grow stronger." Gluten-free folks. My cousin is a confirmed suffer of celiacs (sorry - too many people 'self diagnose' now-a-days) - severe reaction to gluten, which I witnessed myself a few years ago & it wasn't pretty :( ...anyway, he eats TONS of carbs still. The only thing he can't have is gluten, which, to my understanding, is a binder in processed foods. The man can plow through an entire bag of corn chips like fritos or tortilla, & potato chips without a second thought ;) He can eat french fries out the wazoo! BUT he also exercises 90 minutes a day, religiously. So yes - thank you Linda...my new mantra (see above) for the next couple weeks while we hang out and wait to see whats going to happen. I've gathered though the general consensus seems to be "new-and-shiny" company doesn't care very much and would be willing to hire contractors to fill the void should any of us decide to move on before the go-live date of 1/1/17. My one glimmer of hope was that they would want our expertise & be willing to offer an incentive to stay, PLUS a couple months severance at the end...but it doesn't seem to be leaning that way - although there are some higher-ups fighting for this to happen... We should have a final decision by the end of the month. Also I join the injured runners list :( I tweaked my adductor (inner-thigh) muscle Sunday. It was tight before the race and I went to my chiro who said it was possible it might get worse (since I couldn't rest it)...it did :( I emailed her & she said I need to rest for a week & be careful stretching too. Since it loosens up when I walk, she is fairly confident it should heal quickly :D |

I don't do the whole separate carbs & fats thing, but as a whole, I don't eat a lot of fat. Since I am relatively dairy free, that eliminates a lot of higher fat foods (cheese!) and I don't eat a lot of nuts. But everyday at lunch I have my salad with dressing and I usually have some sort of carb, and it doesn't seem to effect me. As long as I am staying in that 3# window, I am not worrying too much about it. If I ever pop up to 140, then I will be more strict, and def go back on P1 to get down. But for the most part, I am just kind of going with the flow. I find that some days I just naturally eat less and after indulgences I do try to keep things on the straight and narrow for a few days to work that stuff out. So far, it is working. |
Thanks jenny - I'm trying not to micro-manage too much, but hesitate to veer too much from the IP recommendations - the only thing they really stress for P4 seems to be carb/fat separation. But I will probably have less carb (potato, carby veg) at dinner, or just add some fruit to make up for it.
Glad to hear maintenance is going well for you this time, I remember you made some changes based on what went wrong last time. Looks like it's working well for you. Beth sorry to hear about work. Is there any chance they would consider hiring you as an independent contractor? Might be an option, and it's often more attractive to some companies that employees? Will that injury affect your next run? Even though it should heal quickly, maybe a lesson to learn from HIS's experiences? Take care of yourself! Speaking of Linda -MIA??? What's up, dear girl?? I see you're posting occasionally on FB, but have been wondering if all is well? Candi, P2 is great, when do you start P3? it's better!! I'm still enjoying the breakfasts! Another rainy, gloomy, cold day...will it never end??!!... Walked on the treadmill this morning, I just don't like getting out when it's just not nice out there. This time of year, why is it I always want to make changes to the house? Well, there are some things that have to be done, like replacing windows, but they're not really fun, just $$$. But we've been wanting to take up the carpet in the FR and put down hardwood, so we ordered some yesterday, and have it scheduled in a few weeks. This is the room we use a lot, and the carpet never seems to be clean. Should be a great change. Of course, years of cat hairballs, etc :o Much as I miss our kitty, this part, not so much ;) Of course, one thing leads to another...and we have some built in cabinets that won't look right with the floor (too much wood) so DH is going to paint them white (he's not one of those men that thinks it's sacrilege to paint wood, thank goodness ;) ) |
Blueskies: try not to stress about the carb fat separation thing. It's not as hard as it sounds... even 2:1 will work fine. Just decide if you feel like a richer creamier meal (for lack of better words) and base it around that, then switch it for the other meal. If you need some ideas there are a ton of meal plans for full days from a few of us on "Maintainers P4 What Are You Eating Today? Part 1" (or 2, or 3). Here's an example of one of my days with macros listed thanks to MFP:
