Change in Dinner Protein Amounts

I may be crazy but I keep thinking that the dinner protein wasn't 8oz when I did this the first time. Has anyone been around since 2011 who remembers the plan then?

3rd time is the charm!

Hi. This is my first time joining a forum for weight loss support, so bare with me please :dizzy:

I'm 32 yrs old/ 5'7''/ mommy of 2 (5&4yr old). I first started IP Las February lost 32lbs in 3 months. We joined as a family challenge my husband and his parents joined IP as well. We all did good up until our little vacation in May. We ate regular food during the vacation and never came back to the IP program. I think NOT phasing out correctly was our worst mistake.

In July I tried to go back on the diet but only lasted 2weeks. So here I am today trying this for the third time. I have gained 11lbs back since May and I don't want to wake up one day weighing 200lbs again. So I started the program last Monday and is been hard, the cravings are so much worse than I remember. Tomorrow is my weigh in day... WISH ME LUCK!;)

1 - Going to get a massage (I find this completely takes any desire to not stay OP away)
2 - going to a movie (vs sitting in front of your tv)
3 - doing chores around the house (mostly including things I never get around to doing like cleaning out closets and things - such a great sense of accomplishment when done)
4 - hobbies like golf but also strangely enough, spending time to research recipes and doing menu planners because then I look forward to executing my plan and it eliminates any desire to go off OP as I have my plan

Those are excellent suggestions! Thanks Ro22

BF % goal

I'm at 25% body fat so getting closer to my goal - 20% body fat. Just curious what body fat % others have used for their goal. I definitely am WAY healthier and looking trimmer but still have a belly and a good amount of fat on my thighs so thinking I do want to get to 20 % BF but I am so ready for normal food again! This diet works - I have only lost 1 pound of muscle but 24 pounds of fat - but it is hard!

Thanks,
Ali

BCGirl, I think you're right... the printout I have from 2010 says 7 oz. of fish or seafood -or- 5 oz. of beef, poultry, pork or veal...

Hope your weigh in is successful - the first week IS hard, and coming back to the restrictive diet is very tough when you have been freely eating whatever you want. You can do it though, and you are so lucky to be coming back with a regain of only 11 lbs. Make the mental commitment to do the work, don't let your head talk you into cheats, and those 11 lbs will be gone and you will be able to phase off according to IP guidance. YOU WILL BE SO GLAD IF YOU DO THIS. Right now, make it a plan to go to bed each night feeling good about you eating practices of that day. Give yourself those good feelings by doing what you know to do.

8 oz. seems like a lot to me too... I'll stick with what worked before, 7 oz. fish, 5 oz. meat...

NSV!.. a pair of capris that were really tight around the waist when I bought them about 3 weeks ago & were still that way last week, when I tried them on this morning they were just right!!!.. also, since restarting IP on Tuesday, I've lost 3.2 lbs. :carrot: I'm pumped!..

:welcome3: Onyx... I'm sure you'll do great... & thanks, joysh, for the welcome... glad to see you still here...

hugs...

You can always divide it up and put 2 or 3 oz on a salad for lunch, then eat the rest for dinner.

goldilocksinct 10-16-2016 08:28 AM

I am rebooting after knee replacement surgery in July. I ate WAY too much over the summer being at home. I had previously lost over 90 pounds on IP years ago. I thankfully did not gain it all back. I have now lost more than 20 pounds in my reboot in the last 5 weeks. I am psyched and determined to do it all this time. I really need the other knee done, but want to much lighter, which will be more helpful for the recovery (which I did well with the first time).

canadjineh 10-16-2016 10:51 PM

Aunt Sheshie: Capris, lol. Mine are put away now...
The concern I am working with is making sure my long johns fit under my patrol pants, winter is coming :rain::shocksn:
For a bit there, they were a little squeezy on my middle, now I'm pretty sure the underlayer will fit fine.

Hi goldilocksinct, I think I remember you.... good on you for getting back to it.

Alitx05, it's possible that the 1 lb of muscle you lost wasn't muscle, as that measures only lean mass (EVERYTHING that isn't fat). It is normal to lose connective tissue such as skin etc when we lose fat and inches, otherwise, think about what we would look like. You take up less space so your skin gets rid of excess too. It's called autophagy. You can google it for published scientific studies. Congrats.

Hi Alitx05,
My goal is 25% BMI which will put me at 160lbs (I'm 5'7") and I think I would be content with that. However, I would love to weigh 140lbs which is still a healthy weight for my height and that will put me 21% BMI. ;)

I haven't used BF % as a goal. I have gone more by how I feel and my weight when I was at different times in my life. I am not using a coach and home scales are so inaccurate when it comes to this. I bought the device my coach used to test myself but it stopped working so I have stopped tracking this and am going by the above along with size as I am not measuring inches lost either.

Hi Onyx and welcome! Here's some great info on the difference between body fat % and Body Mass Index:

Oct 17 ... 172.8 lbs (lost 7 pounds- fyi I get a print out of my body composition and 6 of those pounds I lost were water weight )

Thank you canadjineh... I got confused, I'm looking at my body composition print-out and it says that my current BMI is 28.2 but my fat% is at 36.8 (holly cow)

Sorry for the long absence everyone! First I was sick, then there were weekends. It's just been a tough three weeks!

Hi canadjineh - Thank you for the encouragement and guidance. I am really excited about our trip. It keeps me busy researching during my days off. I love the whole process - figuring out if we need new clothes/shoes/accessories/travel stuff. It’s a great distraction when I start to think about boredom snacking.

AuntSheshie - I get really bored with the veggies too. I used to have a salad every day with the same veggies - spinach, red BP, cucumber, celery, sometimes red onion. First I changed my dressing and added a few restricteds like hearts of palm. Now its getting old again and I find myself doing research on how to get the veggies in without force feeding myself the salads. This week I’m trying the vegetable purees. It takes more prep work, but I think this might help me along.

Great job Onyx! Keep up the good work!

I've discovered a few things that may help me tremendously this time around - the chocolate chip pancakes (wow), the vanilla drink/espresso option (way too convenient) and ProtiDiet caramel snack bars. The latter are incredibly tasty, and they don't cost an arm and a leg like IP. They were a great find!

I would really like to lose a few inches before my trip this Thanksgiving. And I desperately need to get back in shape. It's going to be quite interesting for the next month...

sandralosingweight 10-18-2016 10:55 AM

Hello everyone,

I was a very active member on almost all the forums in here back in 2011; back then, it was my first go on IP and I lost 50 pounds, unfortunately, since then, for very personal reasons, I gained back all the weight plus 20+ more. I did try to re-start much more than once with the definition of the word Failure! I am writing today to share my experience on how I eased myself back to IP this time. So... I reached a weight of 275.6 for my 5.6 frame, I felt like a whale and I was failing big time to get rid of this weight. I went on vacation after being away from my country of origin for more than 11 years and unfortunately, I was not feeling good in my skin, I felt huge, but still, I couldn't diet while on vacation. Long story short, once the vacation was over and I came back to Canada, this time, living alone, I knew that this is the time for no excuses, this is it for me, now is the time and this time I will go through it. For many rebooters who failed, this is my story, I am not advising anyone to do what I did, I am only telling my story and this is what worked for me: I did not go 100% OP since week one, instead, I started trying to be as close as I could to sticking to IP, but I tried to stay low carb as much as possible, that meant at time ''cheating" with some cheese and eating nuts, this helped me ease into the plan, and here I am I started on October 2, 2016 and we're only October 18 today and now I am 100% OP. I already lost 16 pounds, I know I have a long way to go and I wouldn't even start to feel good about myself before being less than 240, but it's a great beginning and I really wanted to share to tell all the re-booters who are having it tough that it is doable.

Hi saralee101, I apologize in advance for the million questions... lol
What are these products? they sound delicious!!!
where can I find them?
how do can I be sure that they are ok to eat on phase1? I'm afraid to get kicked out of ketosis

Becky264 10-18-2016 06:44 PM

Serious!!!

Hubby and I committed ourselves again and are doing good. I find if I can keep myself busy in the evenings - it is much better. Cleaned out a junk drawer last night -- long overdue!!

Hard moving around to keep busy though. One bad knee is bone on bone - having had two meniscus surgeries on that. Then three weeks ago I turned wrong, popped my ACL and now it feels like torn meniscus -- in my good knee!!! It's the pits getting older. :(

0nyx 10-24-2016 07:36 AM

UGH! I'm so disappointed on myself, I can't seem to stick to the protocol 100%. Last week I did it a good 95% (with a few minor cheats) so I ended up loosing just 1lb. I have nobody else to blame but me. I just wish I could get my head in the game and quit cheating. :(

Ro22 10-24-2016 09:48 AM

Sorry to hear that Onyx. As you know, cheating on this protocol is worse than others. I always think that a few minutes (or even seconds) of cheating is going to screw up 7 days of work and that is usually enough for me not to cheat. When I wake the next day after temptation, I feel SO good that I didn't cave as I know I would wake with guilt.

I am super happy - I lost 6.3 pounds last week! I have 20 to go!
The cool thing about this is that this is modeling the behavior exactly to the first time I did IP and had my biggest monthly drops in this month and next. If that is the case then I will be at goal in less time than I thought!

joysh 10-24-2016 09:51 AM

Hi All!

Onyx, I know there's a thread about Alternatives on IP. This time around I'm using 90% alternatives that I buy from Nashua Nutrition online. They're a great company and have some very comparable products to IP. You just need to check the stats on the products that you want to use. Some are exactly the same as IP (The RTD chocolate drinks are identical; I have one every morning). But some are not.

I'm down another pound. I seem to be losing one pound a week. It's much slower than the first time, but I'm really ok with that as long as I'm going down. I feel good on this diet and don't miss too much of the carbs and sugars. Dairy- a little. My clothes are getting looser and I'm into some of the "on the way" clothes and out of the very bigger ones. I'll be able to wear some of the "on the way' clothes that I like a lot in a one or two weeks, so that's a big improvement!

It's finally fall here in Louisiana!

Have a great week, everyone! :):)

joysh- Thank you for your reply, just yesterday I stumble into those threads and I couldn't be more happy to see all the alternatives that Nashua Nutrition offers that fits in within the IP protocol.

Hi Onyx! Thanks IdealProteinNewbie for answering her and sending the link. I was on the road and did not log in for a couple of days.

All is very well with me. I'm losing slowly, but steadily. Today is Halloween; tomorrow is my birthday. I'm down 21 (almost 22) by my birthday from when I started this reboot, so I'm a little more than halfway there. That feels good. Clothes are fitting better. :witch:

Have a great day, everyone!

I wish that were true! I gained all weight back plus 24 pounds. Didn't have the heart to change my stats. I rebooted the last week of June and I am transitioning after this week. I still want to drop 20 pounds to get back to where I was before but I had some dizzy spells last week so I am switching to keto to try and lose last 20. If that doesn't work, then I'll focus on maintaining until new year and drop the 20 on IP in Jan. I am bound and determined to successfully maintain this time. In the past, I would have just pushed through until I got the 20 off, but I would feel deprived through holidays and I think my body is giving me signs I can't go 6+ months on600-700 calories so time for a change-up. I'll feel like a big success when I maintain through holidays and feel like a miracle if I lose the 20 through the holidays but I will try. I know this - if I don't switch now, I'm either on same path to get sick or trigger a binge to feeling deprived so this time I'm listening to my body and doing a change up. I'm looking forward to working out next week!!!!

Post pregnancy reboot.

I'm really loving this site. It's nice to see all these people in the same place as me. I would like to thank the makers of this site for creating it. I had done ideal pro8 once about 2 years ago. It helped me to lose about 30 lbs and conceive my first baby. Now my son is 10 months old and I've gained all my weight back and then some. Starting round 2 of IP and hoping to stick to it till I reach my goal this time. What do you guys do to stay on the program till you reach your goal when you only have few lvs left to lose? I start to get lazy when I see that I've lost some weight and my clothes fit better...I kinda start to get careless.. does that happen to anyone? If so, how do you deal with it? I really want to lose 50 lbs.
Thanks. I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Hi. Congrats on the baby and self-help action!
I can't say I have a direct answer to your question as I would say motivation to commit to goal has not been a problem for me as once I'm committed, I see it through.
For me, my issues have been three-fold:
1) not being able to define a realistic goal/doubting my goal - I think what I have is realistic but I got very sick last time. I don't attribute that to my goal but more to doing P1 for too long consecutively but perhaps I set too low of a weight goal for me. I'm listening to my body more this time and adjusting. But, I am determined to hit my goal but maybe it is not right for me. We'll see.

2) Maintaining - always failed but I am committed to succeeding no matter how many tries it takes. I only discovered low carb through IP 2 years ago and only keto this year so I really think these are the keys to stopping yo-yo dieting for 30 years and are incorporating them into maintenance plan. For example, I started doing blood glucose testing to see my body's reaction to foods and it is eye-opening to imagine what I must put my body through when I make very bad choices. It is then easier to understand how I rapidly gain vs feeling my body is letting me down post weight-loss phase.

3) Getting motivation to restart after going off rails and catching myself before causing too much damage. I know I can't force restarting - once that switch gets flipped, I have no problems committing but something happens after I reach goal where I never had the tools to maintain and a delayed reaction to deprivation leading to bingeing. But, I am bound and determined to break the cycle and I hope this is the time. I am certainly putting in the effort.

Avalon1957 11-02-2016 05:52 AM

Ro22, no worries on your stats. Shoot, regaining all+24 must have been disheartening, but I think that's somewhat of a familiar story with some of us at least. A few of us just struggle w weight -- kind of a lifetime thing. I always had the inkling that my body was "springloaded" to be fat -- I could lose weight if I applied a lot of force -- but once I stopped trying, my weight pops back up. Then it's just a matter of what point during the "pop" do I get a handle on things again and dive back into dieting. It's interesting that I tried probably 20 times during my run up to restart IP -- would get a few days (sometimes a few weeks) in and boom, I would cheat fall off the wagon. Not sure if it was "dieting burnout", or the restarting of carb addictions, or depression/stress -- but I just could not stay the course. Until two weeks ago when I finally seemed to gain control again. Hopefully I can stick with it and get my weight back down. It is hard. Your plan to just try to maintain through the holidays is a good one -- this Nov-Dec window is the toughest time of the year to diet IMHO. For me tho, I want to use my momentum to knock my weight down now, as I'm not sure how I will be feeling (if I will have the motivation) come January. But I just have to keep trying until I hit on the right pathway.

Manmeet, congrats on your first! Yes that baby weight is tough. If I had any good tips on maintenance I would give them, but I don't -- so I will leave that to others that have had long-term weight-off success. Keep up the good fight!

Just wanted to give a gold star to anyone working on this tough problem -- I am rooting for you!

A brief "IP History" of my weight loss journey

Aug 2013 to Dec 2013 (IP Diet, 326 to 249):
Started IP P1 for the first time in Aug 2013. My starting weight was 326. By Dec 2013 I was down to 249. So I lost 77 pounds in 4.5 months.

Dec 2013 to Aug 2014 (Regain, 249 to 326):
Took a "break from IP" and my weight started a slow climb -- then a rapid climb up. I gained every pound back I lost ... and ended up back at 326 (my old starting weight) by the end of Aug 2014.

Sep 2014 to Nov 2015 (IP 1st Reboot, 326 to 196):
Started IP P1 AGAIN at my original starting weight of 326. Stuck it out for 14 months this time (during this 2nd run) and got my weight down to 196. So I lost 130 pounds in 14 months.

Nov 2015 to Oct 2016 (Regain, 196 to 276):
Had a slow regain from Nov 2015 to May 2016 where my weight ran up to 225 (which is not a horrible weight on me, since I am tall) -- but then from June 2016 to late August 2016 -- a combination of stress and depression did me in and I piled on a fast additional 51 pounds in 3 months up to 276.

Oct 23, 2016 to now (IP 2nd Reboot, 276 to 264):
Just had a great 12 days restarting IP P1 where I am down a fast 12 pounds. The good news is my previous regain only took me half way up to my old high (a minor success I suppose if you look at it from a glass half full perspective). I hope to get back down to 250's very soon. Maybe next week? ... Then into the 240's by the end of Nov? ... Then maybe the 220's by the end of January? 225 is not a bad weight on me -- tho I think most Dr's would say a "healthy" weight for me is closer to 200. If I get to 225, I might evaluate if I have the gumption and drive to take a stab at 200 (which I might be able to do with an additional 2 months of dieting)

One step at a time!

My weight chart looks like this over the past 3 years ...

I guess the good news I am still down about 62 pounds from my peak weight ... that's something.
The upshot of all this is the IP Diet does work (very well) for weight loss -- but I just haven't figured out the maintenance part yet.

Hi Alexandra - Losing weight is 'easy', maintaining is where the hard work begins! Glad to read you've had a successful 2 week run - keep it up!
& maintaining a 20% weight reduction is HUGE! There is plenty of science out there about how even a 10% loss is great for health. You got this lady!

Hysteria, well you've been doing great with maintenance! You've kept off 90% of your huge 100 pound loss. What's your secret?

Hello Everyone,

Avalon1957, I do believe that I remember you from older posts (I did IP in 2011 and I was a very active member on these IP boards), glad to see you here.

I tried to re-start IP many times with millions of failed attempts, but since October 2, I eased myself into it by starting with a low-carb diet, I first included some nuts and cheese, then I was able to fully stick to 100% IP.

As of today, (a month into the diet), I lost 19 pounds :) I am so happy but I know I have a long way.

Any advice about how to tighten the inner thigh flab? I know we are not supposed to exercise while on IP, but I don't know what to do :(.

Anyway, also I wanted to share about my experience with soy nuts, when I first started IP they were on the restricted list, then they became non restricted seeing that the fiber minus the carbs would equal a non restricted item, but with my experience, I did notice that I was not losing weight while I treated the soy nuts as non restricted, I only re-started losing weight while using them only once a day restricted item.

I hope I will hear back from everyone.
