Kayweight First of all, congratulations on getting through the first week :cp::cp: That's the hardest part.
Your coach is absolutely right. Everyone's losses are different, and it's futile and foolish to try to compare your losses with anyone else.
This diet DOES work. I started at 203, today I'm at 142 and closing in on goal. My first week loss was the same as yours, 3.6lb. I averaged just over 2lb/week after that, until later when I got closer to goal, a bit less. The friend who told me about IP - she lost 8 her first week. There are some people on this forum that average 3 to 4 lb per week. Some lose 4 one week, and then almost nothing the following week. We are all different. Just don't make the mistake of trying to game the diet to lose faster, it won't work. Just trust in the protocol.
Look at it this way - do you know of any diet that gives you results like this? Not me, and I've tried a few :dizzy:
Don't get discouraged, stay on plan. The losses will be piing up before you know it.

smdawheel 01-09-2016 03:00 PM

Kayweight - Congratulations on your first week loss it is great. I know where you are coming from. The first week is very hard and reading others posts about loosing big numbers your mind gets into this strange place. I did the same thing.

You might have had less water to lose than others (we all gain this back as we phase off). Plus there are a variety of things that play into the weight loss, such as did you weight the same time of day, are you constipated, is it that TOM?

My numbers the first 3 weeks were all over the place. I started walking about week 4 (I was at a convention and I needed to walk to get around) and I discovered that my body responded pretty well. So I have been doing that for the last 5 weeks. But, for someone else this might slow the process down.

Reading the posts of folks in maintenance, P1 works - for some it moved faster, for some it moved slower, for some it did both. When you get to P4, each person needs to figure out within the guidelines what works for them to be successful.

I started with a goal in mind of 2 - 2.5 # per week. This was a number that I could live with (and much higher than I would have ever achieved on a points counting plan. I am anticipating a weight loss stall coming up as I approach 210. This was my "stuck" number in recent years. The weight that I just could not or would not let my self get under. If I don't see it great, if I do I won't let it derail me. I know this works.

Hey, all! I had hoped be posting a bit more this week, but work kept me a bit too busy. I'm on day 6, and I feel things are going well. I found that the "dizzy spells" they say could occur as your system adjusts happened on day 3. I can't say I was a fan, as it happened while I was driving from a client back to my house. No accidents though. :)

I feel pretty good. I'm not (yet?) having cravings, but I suppose those may start later. I am somewhat hungry periodically, but I am getting used to ignoring it while I get some water or an unlimited veggie to help.

I have a challenge coming up in just over a week, as I am taking a somewhat-unplanned trip for work, that will have me in the land of good food and BBQ for a few days. I'll bring packets, and should be able to figure out the protein part at night. I'm in a hotel w/a kitchenette, so that will help. I do not necessarily need to have dinners with people.

I'm getting good support, which is helpful. I work from home mostly, so I cleared my house of "stuff" before I started. I have a couple of coworkers that know I'm doing IP, and I'm getting periodic check ins and encouragement from them. It means a lot to me, and tells me that I made a good decision, and I'm finally ready for this commitment.

I have a weigh in on Monday, so I'll check back then. I don't weigh myself at home, but I am seeing a difference in my belly and waist already. :)

Hi all!

I started IP on 1/1/16... love it so far, and my first week had an 8.4 lb loss, so i'm definitely motivated to keep it going :) I've been prepping meals in advance, which has made it so much easier to keep to the diet. Looking fwd to losing with all of you =)

Jodi42 - congrats on your January Start on IP P1! Looks like you were really ready to shift to the IP ketosis based diet.

Kayweight - your 3.6 lb loss is nothing to sneeze at - if you did that every week you would reach your goal

I dunno what your coach had to say about your food diary, but did you follow all the P1 rules? Supplements? Water intake? Did you add more water for every 8 oz of coffee, after the first cup? Did you eat all the food? Select veggies as well as unlimited? Did you have your salt? Did you use unrestricted for 2 of your packets everyday? All these factors play into success, and most people find that precision makes the difference between a solid loss and smaller loss or a no change WI...

I found it really useful to post my meals on the What are you eating today Ipeeps? thread - and while there, looking through the thread at the meals posted by others, especially noting those who seem to be about the same weight and height, with the same general number for goal weight.

I always check out Frawniemae's meal postings - she has consistently lost, week after week, and is more than 100 lbs down from her start weight - she uses a combination of alternatives and IP these days - just IP in the early weeks, I think. But her food choices have been really successful. Check her out!

Your water intake was on the high side.... maybe that contributed to fluid retention... how did the timing of the WI related to your last BM? Did you weigh your protein and veggie portions throughout the week? What week is this related to your TOM?

Little detail-y things like that can really make a difference on this program- it is a chemistry approach to weight loss, and when you cut corners on the various elements in the formula, you will not get the intended results consistently.

Look at your food diary with a very scrutinizing eye, and be sure you are 'religious' about the rules, especially in the beginning. This will pay off for you, I promise.

if if makes you feel any better - I only lost about 5 lbs my first week on my original IP P1 program - and I had done 2 days of 'the last supper' with much carb and sugar -- so I was expecting more of a loss, due to the radical change in food habits. But my loss seemed low compared to others... and that made me get a bit obsessive about the rules, and the resulting extra attention to details made a big difference in the next several months. My average from July 2014 thru November 2014 was more than 10 lbs a month. I made it to the 50 lbs milestone in less than 5 months. Excellent for someone who has yo-yo'd thru life, is sedentary, and I am no spring chicken - in my mid 60's... so I would guess that your potential is excellent for great success. Like everyone is saying - just gotta stick with the program, right down to the details.

I hope this advice is helpful -- and for some folks, doing a restricted only every other day does not contribute to greater loss - for some, that restricted is needed to boost the metabolism and produce more loss.

You can do this and you have made it past the hard part. Hang in!!!

smdawheel 01-09-2016 06:08 PM

mezmerelda-

I ended up traveling for work during week 4. I flew to my destination and had packed packets and veggies in my carry on. My biggest challenge was that I did not plan ahead for my evening meal one evening. If you can research a restaurant or too that serve some paleo friendly meals that would be helpful. Also make sure that you are always carrying a packet or bar with you in case you get hungry.

Oneuh2 I did everything to the book - I'm very analytical and believe in research and following rules that make sense. I researched this diet for over three years wanting to do it but being unable to afford it. I know why their multivitamins are different from over the counter and though I pay just as much for Andrew Lessman's I researched the point of these supplements. I know the program and do it and that's why I really wanted at least 5 pounds but more like 10.

As I stated above, I limited myself ON MY OWN to one restricted every other day... I never had any extras - just three packets a day, I weighed my food - I was serious - I wanted a big loss and like EVERYTHING I want in life I gave it my all.

My coach was happy with my journal and was actually surprised how detail I was - including noting any time I was hungry, how I felt when I woke up, the times I ate - even adding splenda the ONE packet I had all week of it (NO OTHER SWEETENERS - just unsweetened herbal tea - the only caffeine I had was the one 6oz of coffee on the third day (with the splenda) in hopes it would make me go as I am used to "going" daily and it had been two days.

I relieved myself right before the WI and made sure to have my breakfast IP shake an hour before my appointment.

It's not TOM

I can't see paying $120 a month - IP packets, supplements, and dinners for 1-2 pounds a week. That's nuts to me for me in my opinion I can lose that much on any other diet - it's maintaining would be the issue and yes I get you can't do steps 2 and 3 without 1 - but then I'll really have to consider quitting IP after all my packets are done/after the other 1-2 WI if nothing budges. No inches? C'mon - 3.6 pounds? It seems unheard of for me in this diet.

The coach tells me to be happy and to give it time as it was 6 days and not 7 till my weigh in - whateva - a day doesn't add 4 more pounds so it's the same. They don't track fat loss until after the first month. The first month they just do weight and measurements. For all I put into this - the sugar junkie I am - the pizza I could have had - CHOCOLATE - WINE - 3.6 lousy pounds and 1/2 inch. I don't know anyone else who has posted here w/over 50 pounds to lose to be a healthy weight (80 at the time for me) and if you do it by frame - I'm technically a "small frame" so more like 90 pounds to lose at that time - I even had wine the weekend before I started - NYE - cookies - I do this to the T and I lose a lousy 3.6 pounds and still get hungry every 3.5-4 hours? Told the coach that and she said it shouldn't be - just see if there's something youa re eating to trigger that? What? The IP NONRESTRICTED Packets - water, herbal T plain at night, cauliflower, zucchini and bell peppers? Chicken Breast? 90% lean beef? Tilapia? Because that's what I've had. The garlic? Green onions? Salt and pepper? What? 80-88 oz. of water daily?

Makes no frigging sense - none - but I've paid for my packets and I'll continue doing it at least another week - but again - I know myself - and I can't see myself paying $120 for no tasty food and losing one frigging pound a week (even on average when I have over 75 pounds left to lose to just be in a healthy range)

Because I was so sad still I had a restricted packet as my snack (so third packet for the day) 4 hours ago and I've been hungry drinking water and T as I have for the past 7 days to try and stop the hunger that starts at about hour 3. I'm trying to make to 8 to have dinner - chicken breast (thyme, black pepper, salt and MS. Dash Salt free Garlic seasoning) with cauliflower rice (salt and pepper) so that I can stay up till at least 11 and not be tempted to have something else due to hunger...I go 11-12 hours between dinner and my IP drink in the morning. My meals tend to be a drink for breakfast, a soup with veggies for lunch, my snack restricted/non-restricted (bar or pudding), and my 8oz raw (then cooked) with veggies.

Again, I'll see - took me 9 weeks to lose 9 pounds and 8 weeks to lose 9 pounds on weight watchers the last times - so I know - many would say then maybe you are a slow loser and you should be glad if you average 2 pounds a week. It just makes me so sad to think that no diet will make me like those that can lose above the 1-2 pounds a week. It takes sooooooooooooooooo long and I never make it to goal - esp. when I end of plateauing for months - I just fall off and regain. I'm fed up with that. This was to be different. It has to be.

I don't have any other support systems for this. Everyone has seen me go through everything in the past 1-5 years (depending how long they know me)

Kayweight 01-09-2016 07:32 PM

Sue - I was told in the information meeting and based on here that the average loss for women are 2-4 pounds a week so I reasonably set my average to be 3 a week - believing some would be less and some would be more and the first week would help to make sure the average was 3. It's very difficult for me to wrap my mind around spending $525/month to lose 8 pounds a month when I have like 80 pounds to lose. They said at the center, the folk I know who have done it and those I've seen prior to you in my shoes have generally done the avg. of 3/week - 10-12/month. I'll see how the second week goes - an average of 2/week for all the effort - smh - I didn't even do regular communion due to fear of cravings from the cracker or juice. I used my nails to pick of a piece less than 1/5 the size of my pinky nail and used herbal, caffeine free tea as my cup/juice.

Coach said anxiety can interrupt weight loss but it's one of my pet peeves to do what I'm supposed to an not get the results I feel I've worked towards - not matter what it is - that's just me - Type A up the wazoo

Blueskiesahead - Thanks. It's comforting to hear and see maybe we are in similar positions/have some hope again. Averaging 10 pounds a month on this until I'm at most 20 pounds from a healthy weight would be nice. I'll see - Just so scared that I'll do it all again this week with no inches next WI and less than 3 pounds. Part of me then things that means I'll need another endocronologist although I've had the same one the past 4 years - because maybe there's something she's missing and maybe I do have some sort of health issue and then the thoughts just spiral from there and then calming myself because I then think that I'm only stressing myself and stopping the body from losing and then it's a cycle - but there's nothing anyone can do. Almost 9 hours after I saw my coach and I'm realizing I just have to fight the voices of defeat and pray that it'll all work out - that the program and my body will just work well together.

Thanks

Best wishes to all

oneuh2 01-09-2016 10:20 PM

Ooooh Kayweigh - I can see that this is really upsetting you, and it sounds like you are paying attention to the details - I note that you do not mention having salads at lunch and dinner (tho you may not have called them out separate from the veggies)... having those greens and free veggies at lunchtime may be surprisingly helpful with the afternoon hungries, and even if you have salad at lunch you can still have cucumber and celery sticks as between meal snacks.

I had that hungries problem today myself and went for my snack 'packet' early - today, a bag of Quest chips - an unrestricted food item that I can slowly eat one by one. So no bar for me today... (for me it would have been a restricted as I usually have a restricted every day). REally a lot of people find that losses are greater WITH the daily restricted. You may be denying yourself for no reason, so bear that in mind.

Are you weighing on your scale at home everyday? Another thing that happens to me with official weigh in's is the home scale on the morning of WI shows a moderate number, and I see the same at the iP clinic, and then the next morning, I see the drop I had hoped to see at the weekly official weigh in. A day late but a dollar or two long... ;-)

I hope you will hang in and give your system an opportunity to adjust to the chemistry. The first 10 days are the hard part - and you are through the worst of those. For most of us, the cravings subside and for us sugar addicts, we develop a numbness to the allure of the sweet stuff... I find I can walk right by it now, when a week ago I was stuffing my face with any sugary thing I could lay hands on, including stuff that doesn't blow my skirt up, but I went for it cause it's sweet.

Please hang in with the same diligence - I really believe you will find success with IP.

canadjineh 01-10-2016 12:58 PM

Hi Kayweight: My average throughout the whole thing was 2 lbs a week. And I needed MORE food to do it. I ended up in an actual stall (NO inches or weight lost for several weeks) and felt ill so I went to the Alternate Diabetic IP Protocol. Perhaps your body is in a similar position, but it is too early to tell yet. Give it a few more weeks.
One week out of the rest of your life - is it really not worth it?? You cannot tell your body what to do. The stress you are feeling over this is also causing more cortisol and feeding inflammation.
If after a few weeks you don't feel you can continue with the official program, then keep at it with alternative products - weighing and measuring yourself and keeping in touch here for advice and support (and venting purposes, ;))
The measuring is very important - many times people do not lose pounds on certain weeks but their measurements 'catch up' to previous losses.

Liana

oneuh2 01-10-2016 05:08 PM

Ditto for what Canadjineh said -- your body chemistry is yours alone, and the adjustment to the IP protocol strikes each of us differently. Allow your body time to tell you what is really working best for it.

One other point I would raise to your attention is the need to have regular bowels - daily - with this program. So many of us IPeeps have to tackle constipation sometime in the first few weeks, and many of us run into it again later on in our program - sometimes because we get lazy about the supplements, oil, and salt. You can find lots of threads discussing the big C - and here on 3FC that is usually a reference to constipation rather than cancer.

Since you already read up on the supplements and their purpose, I assume you have been on top of those, and you seem to be on top of the water intake. But if you are not consistently regular, you may need to do something more in that regard - maybe probiotics, or Smooth Moves tea or something else. This would be an item your coach should be able to help you with, or you could address with your primary care physician.

From my experience, this has a slowing effect on losses showing up on the scale - it is just one more item to keep an eye on.

Once more - I encourage you to give IP a fair chance to deliver on your needed weight loss. I set out to lose 40 lbs in the beginning - and after 3 weeks I realized that the 40 that would take me into one-derland was going to be easy, so I changed my loss goal to 90lbs in order to get to 150. I lost 70 in 7months (overall average 10lbs per month) before I began a slow battle for the last 20. That's when I had some personal medical emergencies at home with husband - very stressful and emotional, and they continue today - so I only reached 160 after a year. I am adjusting my goal weight to 160 if that slow down battle happens again, just to be attentive to how my body is reacting and what it seems to need.

We all have faith in the program and in your ability to succeed with it - I hope you do too!!

Loser13 01-10-2016 07:53 PM

kayweight DO NOT GIVE UP!!! If you don't give it a chance for a few weeks you will never know what could of been! There is nothing worst that to live with REGRET!!! YOU are worth EVERY $ you spend on YOU.

beaka 01-11-2016 04:19 PM

Hi everyone! The half marathon went well and I started IP today. I started off with the almond vanilla drink. I mixed it with chai tea and wasn't a fan. For lunch I did the chicken a la king and added mushrooms and spinach and seasonings to it. It wasn't so bad, but my tummy felt weird after. I did also have a salad with spinach and cucumbers. I used the Walden farms bacon ranch dressing. I don't think I'll be a WF fan either. I got hungry a bit ago and decided to have a few ounces of meat. My coach told me I could eat everything in the day whenever I wanted. For dinner I'll have roasted chicken and radishes. I'm going to try to also pick a tastier snack for tonight. I take night classes. They start back tonight. I'm going to take a mug of hot tea with me and eat my dinner in the car right before I go in. Hopefully that will make this work for my schedule.

kayweight- I do hope you see a bigger loss this week. I did so much research and I really do think this program works. Just give it some time.

smdawheel- you're doing so great!

Loser13 01-11-2016 05:51 PM

Congrats on half marathon beaka and welcome!

I have never used IP products sonI cant relate to these but I can tell you that I recently started making a shake with the Quest PB powder and it is YUMMY! Many girls had raved about it so good.

Have fun in class tonight...what are you studying?

mezmerelda 01-11-2016 07:50 PM

Weigh in today - 6lbs down. I don't expect that to be my weekly amount all the time, but I am certainly happy with it. :)

The only WF product that I found that I like is the BBQ sauce. It is actually pretty darn good. It won't go with everything, but it works for now.

On a separate note, I believe I am addicted to roasted cauliflower with my shawarma seasonings. Seriously, best thing ever.
